The job was hectic right from the start. He had painters coming and going constantly. One person would start an area, leave, and then someone else would finish it. There were problems everywhere. When the job was completed, there was not a single room that did not require multiple rounds of touch-ups. Multiple sections of ceilings were completely missed.
At one point, Dean tried to convince me that a bedroom closet covered in cobwebs had been freshly painted. There were paint speckles all over my kitchen counters because they did not put down plastic before rolling the walls. They also rolled the stairway walls without proper protection, leaving paint speckles all over my stairs. It took me nearly two hours to clean the paint off the risers.
They also failed to remove old caulk before applying new caulk. Instead, they simply caulked over the existing material. It has been just over a year, and some of their caulk work is already failing.
The wood staining had numerous issues, including runs, drips, uneven color, blotchy areas, missed spots, and sections that looked painted rather than stained. The contract called for light sanding, followed by a coat of stain and a coat of polyurethane. Toward the end of the project, the sanding appeared to be skipped. The stain and polyurethane were mixed together and brushed onto the wood. After seeing the finished product, I consulted multiple professional painters. They advised that the defects could not simply be touched up and that the wood would need to be sanded back down to bare wood and completely re-stained. Some even expressed concern that certain doors may need replacement due to the extent of the damage.
Before hiring Dean for the garage floor, I told him I was considering an epoxy system. He advised against epoxy and recommended a product he referred to as "Heavy Seal," telling me it would be less expensive, more durable, and longer-lasting. I trusted his expertise and hired him based on that recommendation.
The contract called for proper preparation of the garage floor. Unfortunately, the floor coating began failing within months. What started as a few small problem areas quickly turned into widespread flaking, peeling, bubbling, and hot tire pickup.
I now have paint chips all over my driveway where my children play, and the chips are also being tracked into my house. I had several garage floor coating companies inspect the floor, and they all indicated that the failure appeared to be the result of improper surface preparation before the coating was applied.
I spent thousands of dollars on work that now needs to be redone. Hiring this company was one of the worst financial decisions I have ever made.
I ultimately filed a small claims lawsuit in DuPage County seeking compensation for the cost of repairing the defective work. As of the date of this review, the owner of the company, Dean, has not appeared at one or more scheduled court dates.
