A completely unavoidable and widely reported event, yet the hotel still charged me. Naturally, I reached out, expecting at least a conversation. Instead, I was met with silence. No response, no acknowledgment, nothing. Finally, I got a support person on the chat that pushed this through to the management and I was hit with "Dear Danny, Thank you for your email. First night remains fully chargeable. Kind regards," (and no, they didn't write a name after kind regards) When attempted calling, I realized my only option was to make an international call at my own expense, just to ask why I was charged for a stay that was, by all reasonable standards, impossible. I understand cancellation policies, but when a major airport shuts down and a guest has no way to reach you, understanding should come into play. I asked for the complete reservation policy but they wouldn't share it with me. Instead, I was left to absorb the full cost of a room I never had the chance to sleep in, with no customer service to even discuss it. For a hospitality business, this experience was less than hospitable.

I don't think I've ever seen so many options for a comp breakfast at a hotel before. All kinds if meats, cheeses, pastries, fruits, jams and more! The only issue here was the staff. I found them to be very stuck up. Our group would walk in and they would just stare at you and not say hello or anything. They also weren't very approachable. Years ago The Kew Gardens Hotel (as it was then called) was a blot on Kew's landscape. The only people who drank there were people who wanted to play snooker and the odd person staying in the hotel who couldn't be bothered to stagger down to The Railway a few 100 yards down the road. Now it's all changed - a massive refurbishment in 2004 turned it into a large comfy gastro pub that is friendly and is the place where you can hang out with lots of mates, but you'd also be happy to bring your family for Sunday lunch, dinner or even have a family party there. When you enter it looks like a traditional pub. Lots of comfy sofas, hardy looking bar tables that look like they've been there for a 100 years. There's a blackboard with yummy bar snacks - the house burger rivals GBK burgers not as large but the meat literally melts in your mouth and is served with a delicious tomato relish & rocket (my favourite weed). They also do large club sandwiches, stacks of house chips, and some very tasty hand cooked pork scratchings with apple sauce. Moving to the back of the pub though and it turns into a restaurant or more of a gastro-pub. It's much lighter and airier in the back and has more of a family atmosphere. There's also a really cute beer garden - like the huge hanging baskets outside it's what you would expect of a pub so close to Kew's Botanical Gardens. Everytime, I've eaten here the food's been very good. The menu changes every week and the ingredients are fresh and prepared (usually) very quickly in a busy kitchen, with the staff ringing bells and saying "chef" all the time. There's also a cool mezzanine upper floor with even more leather sofas and a widescreen TV if you feel you have to watch TV. I prefer to sit downstairs with a glass of wine, a burger and a stack of papers, happy in the knowledge that I live a stone's throw from one of the best pubs in Kew.

The only downside is that the location is far from the heart of London, so every day, it was an almost 1.5 hour bus ride into the city for sightseeing and fooding. BF would like to chime in that another downside (to him) is doing laundry at night in the basement is a bit creepy since there's no one there, there are no windows, and the mirrors and music at the fitness center right by it can make it seem there might be someone around. On the other hand, the many many plusses include: * kitchen (much better than a kitchenette!) * enclosed balcony / patio area * free laundry machines * decent sized fitness center * Sainsbury's next door * proximity to Kew Gardens (we didn't have time to visit that time, though)

We were in London for 10 days so we wanted a more longer term style of hotel. The room we booked had a living area and full kitchen with a separate bedroom and a large enclosed balcony. The bathroom was large and modern. It felt like an apartment to us. We were able to cook our own meals when we wanted and relax in the living area after sight seeing. On nice days we walked to the tube and the days it was not as nice or we were running late it was easy to get an Uber from here. The price of the hotel was also great. Half of what we would pay in central London. Well worth a stay here
