I stayed here a long time ago (2000!) but I still remember my time here vividly. While I'm sure things have changed in nine years - based on recent photos I spy new paint and well-cared for exteriors! - I hope that the service has not. When I was here, the service and rooms were great. Balconies looked out over across Hyde Park, it was affordable (for my parents at any rate), and the rooms were cozy yet comfortable. Downstairs a little breakfast was offered, and the staff always let us take a few rolls for the road. In 2000, the dollar was stronger than the pound, and we got such a great deal exchanging in the lobby than at the places around the corner. The dollar is of course weaker now, but I'd imagine you'd still get a decent rate here. Definitely NOT a rip off.
One of my favorite features about this hotel was that you were right by the Underground AND Hyde Park! During my free time, I'd wander into the park or take a trip somewhere else with relative ease. For the location, you'd expect to pay an arm and a leg, but thankfully that isn't the case here. Affordable, great location, good staff... well worth it if you want good, clean comfort.
I'd love to come back for old times sake and check out the brightly-colored hotel lobby, but I'll just have to wait until my next trip across the pond to do so! read more
