First, there were several sheet metal screws left around the deck and in our driveway after they left - one of them ended up in my truck tire. Also, during the estimate we talked about covering up our existing 4X4 posts with the same material used on the new posts (to match). I don't think it made it into the statement of work however. Still, I called them to ask if I could pay to have them come out and add this. No response. Called again and left message - no response.

Big Promises - Little Follow Up…read more I DO NOT recommend you use Better Homes Home Improvements (BHHI) for two reasons: poor follow up after initial construction and shoddy craftsmanship. Background: We contacted BHHI to build a deck and pergola cover in our back yard. We worked with John Boughal, starting in August, 2017. He was very easy to work with and is very experienced. We signed a contract and used the company's recommended credit union. The total project cost: 15,000. Because of the summer rush, construction did not begin until October. Construction took three days and the workers were pleasant and professional. However, as part of tying in the deck to the house, they had to cut into the hardiboard siding. Their process left a 3" gap between the deck and the hardiboard. It took some conversations with John to convince him to put in trim to cover the gap. Once they were complete and left, they left trash, sawdust, and extra screws. They also did not fix the hardiboard siding and left the trim unpainted on the ends. By December, the gutter end piece fell off, the deck pieces started to warp, and one corner of the deck started to raise. I called John and left messages, took pictures and sent two texts. I received no answers. In June, I called the main office and talked to Paul, a co-owner. He said he would have someone come out and fix the problems. A week later, some guys came out and fixed the boards with extra screws. The funny thing was that they mentioned that they knew about this type of board warping --- why did they not add extra screws during initial construction? They also caulked the exposed nails on the trim and said they would come back to pait the trim. Shortly after talking to Paul, I did receive a call from John apologizing for not returning my calls/texts because he receives a lot of spam on his phone? A month later, the workers have not returned. I took pictures and sent a text to Paul. Shortly thereafter, I received a call from John saying that he never promised to paint the hardiboard or trim. That they never do that and some people prefer the 3" gap with flashing exposed. Here is what I think: I am paying $15,000 for a deck and cover. For that amount of money, I believe I deserve to receive a professional product (and warranty) that seamlessly ties into my house and maintains the integrity of the house against weather and insects. For shoddy craftsmanship and poor follow-up, I do not recommend you use this company.

I interviewed at least six companies and Jeff's was the most impressive. He was always on time, communicated clearly, was patient about changes to the project, and was upfront about costs. At the beginning of the project he openly shared his subcontractor bids so everything was transparent. He happily worked alongside subcontractors that we had separately hired to do a full house rewire. And his crew was always polite, tidy, efficient, and did great work! We have no hesitation recommending Jeff to others, and will be calling him in the future for more projects. The only question is if he will agree to come back (we were kind of a pain in the butt, but Jeff has the patience of a saint!).

It was at the end of it's useful life, window seals gone, roof leaking, stuck sliding windows, etc.. Though not as yet compete due to material supply problems, Karl & his team have done a great job ensuring the new wood-framed sunroom was 'weathered in' ASAP because fall was approaching with rain of course close behind. The Roof Doctor was supposed to be the roofing subcontractor, however, the did not order the roofing even though they had received a substantial deposit to do so weeks earlier. As a result Mitchell fired the Roof Doctor & completed the entire roof themselves before any serious rain hit, though it really didn't matter because a modern waterproofing membrane had been installed over the wooden underlayment. Within days of installing the metal roofing panels we had our first snowfall of the year, but who cares? The new sunroom was 100% wreath tight because Mitchell covered the window/door openings with OSB & insulating foam until arrival. In the meantime Mitchell is proceeding with interior drywall/ceiling and will soon be painting.

She tried really hard to help whenever she could and was really sweet and polite. But there was just too many issues. The first install team showed up with no masks during covid. When asked to wear them for my safety, they said no, citing that they don't work according to WHO (really?). They left and I called the store. The sub was claiming to them that he has a lung condition. Doesn't match with his story to me and doesn't excuse the 2 other guys who weren't wearing them and said they didn't even have any. The second install team came the next day and what was supposed to be a 2 day job turned into 5 because they were down 1 guy and this one worked SLOW. Multiple times they scratched the new floors when moving our appliances which we paid them to do assuming they wouldn't scratch them. Passive aggressive attitude was given when asked to fix it or he just covered it up so I wouldn't see until later. In some instances he just marked the floor with a black sharpie and didn't even try to make it blend. There's a poorly cut edge under the stairs where the edge of the board is visible where the carpet on the stairs starts. Found it with my foot while vacuuming and really surprised I didn't cut myself. Multiple boards are not clicked in properly. One has a cut from one side to another that I'm being told by another of their subs is part of the texture, but no other board in the entire 900 Sq ft of lvp is that way and no other contractor that has seen it agrees. Just looks like another deep scratch being covered up. There are 2 boards with chips in them. And to top it all off, when I asked the sub to fix an entire row of boards during the job because they weren't clicked in properly, he went outside and got on the phone and started using the f word in my reference telling someone that he had to redo the whole living room because of a f'n scratch. My husband and 2 year old got to hear the whole thing from the open garage. Our fridge was dented (which the company says they've never done and wouldn't acknowledge it was their fault even though the sub told me it was, and they did absolutely nothing about it), they threw away quarter round we were supposed to reuse so we had to go buy new quarter round, and all of our baseboards were broken which they claim they said it would happen and it was in their contract that they won't fix (I was sent the contract and do not see that language). They paid for new baseboards but I still had to pay for install and painting which cost me an extra 1k for another company to do it, much better than what the crappy sub wanted to charge me in cash under the table. Staples left in the carpet and in the grass, pieces of flooring left all over my yard, they stole our broom that looked like theirs but in much better condition (which they said they returned but never got it back).... The company sent out another sub to look at the issue with boards being being clicked in wrong and the chips and crack. He didn't wear a mask except for the moment I opened the door and since the base had already been installed, he said he would have to take it all off to fix it right but other boards may be damaged in the process. Not the answer I wanted to hear so at this point, I just give up trying to fix it if that's all the company can offer me. All in all, we'll never recommend this company to anyone. Most of it has to do with the subs crappy work but I'm really bummed about how little the company seemed to care about fixing the problems (other than Dee). Really thought abbey carpet was a good name but very disappointed.

Out of…read moreall the quotes we got, ABC was the most reasonably priced and was going to ensure supporting beam was installed. So when we needed all our drywall jointed remudded after popcorn removal, we decided to hire ABC. Three whole days of work. They mudded all the joints, sanded, chalked the the edges where the ceiling and wall met, and put a light texture on our ceiling. Overall, we are very happy and our ceilings look fantastic. We hired Vitaliy to help us renovate our upstairs bathroom due to a leak. He replaced the floor and…read moreinstalled a brand new walk-in shower. As much as I would have loved it I'm so disappointed with the outcome. The first time I took a shower I mentioned to him that the shower base creaks loudly, and he told me he put expanding foam to help it, but if that doesn't work then there's nothing else he can do unless I buy another base. It doesn't make any sense as this was all brand new. Also he states that the shower base was made from cheap material, that's why he says it creaks. I can assure you it was not cheap at all. I spent an approximate $1,200 on that walk-in shower so I'm sure it's not because it's made from "cheap" material. The only areas that don't creak are the edges where he used the foam. However, right in the middle of the shower base is where it creaks the most, and when you press on it, you can tell there isn't any cushion between the floor and the base. As more days have passed, I've noticed a lot of imperfections from his work. He left a big scratch and two holes in my wall, he has left boot marks on the shower base that I can't get rid of, the glass doors constantly keep sliding down and they are not parallel to the walls so water escapes, he didn't finish the baseboard around the vanity, and finally, the metal carpet trim that transitions from the bathroom floor to hallway was placed crooked - one side is in the middle of the door frame while the other side extends past it. I did have to ask him to come back a second time because the leak was not resolved. Thankfully he found that problem and fixed it. However I spent good money on this remodel and I'm not satisfied with the outcome. I have spent too much time trying to look for someone else to fix this issue since he said there's nothing else he can do. Overall I thought I was getting a good deal for this renovation but in the end it's costing me more to fix a problem I didn't even start with. What a nightmare! Would not recommend this business to anyone!
