I always get high quality service and honest advice. They never try to sell you things you don't need and give you the real story . I trust them with my VW van which is like a family member . Just the best read more

After years of taking our Audi Q5 to the dealer for service--and feeling absolutely gouged every single time--I decided to seek another option. Some friends recommended Precision Motor Car, so I gave them a call and wound up taking our car in for routine service. I wish I'd made this switch sooner! Everything was great, from the first phone call to the service itself and the pickup/checkout process. And I paid significantly less than I would have at the dealership. Highly recommend these guys. read more

I just can't say enough good things about Darrell, Trevor and the rest of the team at Precision. I've been taking my 2003 Audi to them for 17 years and we've been taking our Subaru for several more. With a 21 year old car, I'm sure they've had plenty of chances to do work that wasn't really necessary. I have always found them, though, completely honest and straightforward. Work is done as discussed, in a timely manner, and they are more than happy to answer all of my questions. In addition, they're just nice guys! I will genuinely miss visiting them, as my new car isn't one of the brands they service. (I really considered sticking with one they did!) You can't go wrong here. read more

Precision Motor Car - My 2003 Audi wouldn't have made it this far without them! - Auto Repair Near Me - Portland, Oregon

Bought a car in the Portland area. Trevor was able to squeeze me in the following day for a pre purchase inspection. I had called maybe 15 repair shops and they were the only ones who could get me in so fast. What an amazing team of mechanics they have. I was walked through and shown almost every part of the ppi. The techs are super friendly and knowledgeable. Best car repair facility I've set foot in. read more

As a first-time Vanagon owner (1989 Westfalia), I knew that we would need a skilled mechanic and someone who could be a reliable resource. This shop was recommended by our friends who've had their Westy for over 14 years. Darrell, Trevor, and the team at Precision have been amazing. They are honest, fair, knowledgeable, and very generous with sharing information. They are always excellent about communicating with us and keeping us informed while our van has been in their care. Their work is top notch. We are so grateful for their help and expertise. I highly recommend Precision Motor Car! read more

A couple of weeks ago I had an issue with my 2017 Audi A4, where I could not go over 4000rpm. This place came highly recommended to me, and I am so glad it did. I called and they were able to get my car scanned the next day, which was really surprising given it was the week of Thanksgiving. They let me know that it was an issue with my thermostat and water pump and gave me the option of either taking it to the dealership and possibly getting it covered under warranty (unlikely), or having them fix it for $1,100. I chose to have them fix it just because of the amazing quote, and customer service that they gave me. My car was fixed it a few days and is as good as new. I cannot recommend this place enough and will be taking my car there for any future service. Thanks guys!!! read more

For years I have lived with the accumulated problems an owner of an older New Beetle who lives in rural Alaska has to endure. Great car, but zero choices for qualified service and maintenance. One email to their service department, a speedy reply, and Precision got me in as soon as I got to town. They were swift with an estimate and kept me in the loop about every change and further discovery. They went every extra mile possible, and were more than fair at the bottom line. Excellent work and excellent service. read more

These guys are awesome! I've been bringing my VW Passat here since I moved to Portland 6 years ago and they hook it up every time. Honest, fair and anytime I have a head or tail light out, like I did today, I drop in unannounced and they swap it out in 5 minutes at no cost. It's the little things, and the big things, and they handle them all first class. Thanks especially to Trevor read more

I reached out to several companies looking for pricing and availability to clean the intake manifold on our 2010 Jetta. I was immediately impressed with Darrell and felt this was the right place for our business. They got us in immediately and completed the job a day ahead of expectations and met their quote. All other companies were upfront that this type of work could range in cost significantly depending on the degree of build up and they wouldn't really know until we brought in the car and they started the work. Not Precision. They quoted the total before starting the work. To add, our car runs fantastic now. I have no doubt of the thoroughness of their work. Precision Motor Car has a new customer as I'll not take our Jetta elsewhere after this experience. I would recommend their services, team and customer support to everyone. read more

This review is long overdue! Precision Motors knows Volkswagen Westfalias! Darrell and Trevor are a wealth of knowledge! They are honest, hard-working, fair, considerate mechanics who get the job done and then some. They are truly passionate about what they do and it shows in their quality, workmanship and excellent communication. We trust them wholeheartedly! Having them here in Portland has been a hugely beneficial for us and we seriously don't know what we'll do when we move. They are one of a kind! read more

Took my 87 VW GL Van in for extensive work last year. They put in a new complete stainless coolent system with radiator and new hoses, brakes, wheel bearings, front end parts and an auxiliary battery. The price was very good and the work done on time. Their work has held up w/o any issues. I use this van for long trips. They did not over sell me and let me bring some parts. Darrel offers good advice and stands by his work. Highly recommend as a professional shop that supports their customers. Jim Just Vancouver WA. read more

They were able to repair the cooling system in my 91 vanagon twice. Very expensive. The second time they told me something was wrong with my turn signals. This is when I found out they could not be trusted. "Technical Tap" on the dash board got them working again when I told them I just wanted to pick my van up anyway with no further work done. I have gone back to Halsey Automotive. An other choice is Art of Maintenance on MLK. I trust both of these shops. read more

These guys know VW's. I had a complete engine swap done on a 83 Vanagon. It went down better than i could have ever hoped for. The engine is so awesome a (Go Westy GVW 2200). I was pleased to find that the final bill was lower than my estimate for the labor and the parts that they supplied. Now my Vanagon camper is king of the road with lots of horsepower. I am so happy to finally find a mechanic who could figure out why my Passat's check-engine light was on. The problem stumped my last mechanic. They were very knowledgeable and professional. They also clearly communicated to me what work would benefit my car, and what work was unnecessary, and the reasons why. I will definitely bring my car back to them! read more

When asking other mechanics around town for a good VW shop, I heard about Precision. Because of the sometimes finicky and unique nature of our beloved german machines, I always prefer to take my car to a shop that specializes in or has VAG experience. Precision did not disappoint with a 160K service for my 2000 Passat. It was a good start when Trevor took down detailed notes of everything I mentioned when dropping the car off and gave me a clear explanation of plan of attack. In addition to the standard service, my aftermarket brake pads were rattling and the shop that installed them couldn't even fix it for me. These guys took the brakes apart, found a loose spring, decompressed it a bit and solved the issue. Now I don't sound like I'm driving a clunker from blocks away. Highly recommend. I'll be back! read more

I needed a new mechanic specializing in VWs because I now own one. Burback Motors that I've trusted my Benz with for years recommended them. I've been there twice for minor issues-battery replacement and key issue. Prompt, knowledgeable service is what I encountered both times. Mechanics in the past tend to over explain issues-these guys were straight to the point and honest. I'm recommending them to anyone I know with a VW! read more

This is the only place to go for VW/Audi service. Excellent customer service! Absolute honesty and integrity, very rare qualities to find in mechanics. Highly recommend you bring your car here! read more

I have converted my 91 VW Vanagon to run with a Subaru engine. I very seldom trust my vehicles to a mechanic mostly because I've rarely had a good experience and have some trust issues. I was having some trouble passing DEQ testing recently and took my van into Precision to have them take a look. The outcome was a good conversation (no repairs or changes) with their team about the issue with very helpful advice and knowledgeable information. I have and will continue to recommend Precision Motor Car to my friends. An honest and reliable source of auto repair. read more

Very knowledgeable staff and owners. Very easy to find, on Grande Ave. A good VW, BMW and Subaru specialty shop that isn't priced like a dealership is hard to find. Support small business and give this shop a try. I've never been dissapointed. read more

If your looking for a straight forward and honest mechanic, then you have found them! I have taken my vw there for two years and this time around they had to refer me for a transmission. When traveling from Seattle to San Diego in my Audi A6, my blinking engine light came on I was lucky enough to be a mile away from Precision. Truly a blessing. Darryl immediately assessed the situation from my description of the problem, and rather than suggest taking care of it himself, thought it might be covered by the dealer under a recall, and sure enough my A6 was fixed for free. Darryl helped arrange everything with the dealer and tow all out of the goodness of his heart and reputation. In a time of feeling overwhelmed, he really was looking out for the customer and we could not be more grateful for his help. Highly recommend. read more

Most honest place I've taken my Subaru to in Portland. Had been to the dealer a couple years ago for a recall and they told my my heads were leaking, which was a common problem with my 2008 Outback, and that they needed to be done right away - $2500. Wanted a second opinion so found Darrell on Yelp. He said it was NOT an emergency and to just keep a watch on it as it was a very small leak. Was sold on the shop right there so continued taking it in for oil changes (great deal there too) so they could monitor. He said, ideally if we could wait til close to 105k miles, he could do the service due at that time which includes the water pump and timing chain. We did make it and he did that whole service plus the heads for slightly less that what the dealer quoted me for heads. Never going anywhere else! read more

I recently stopped here with car trouble during a road trio from Seattle to San Francisco. The shop was top notch and efficient and their expertise in VW's was a life saver. From the moment I pulled in to their shop to my departure, they were honest, dedicated, and clear about my repairs and what to expect. I highly recommend, and will be back again when I am in Portland. These guys are a gem. read more

These guys were great. I broke a transponder chip in my only key and had to have the whole car towed there. The price was reasonable and they were able to fix it as well as being really nice. The VW dealership quoted me 260$ just for a new key. I'll just say I paid less than half that. read more

I have a 2004 VW TDI. Im new to town, and luckily stumbled upon Precision Motor Car via yelp. Trevor got me in quickly, called me with the issues they found, and gave me options. After the work, they took for a test drive and re-ran all the tests. He was excited and confident that diagnosed the issues correctly - and they were spot on! This is an honest repair shop that does great work. Save yourself time and look no further. read more

I went to Precision when my previous Veedub shop changed owners to a chain. Prompt and upfront. I had a check engine light that caused me to fail DEQ due to my catalytic converter starting to fail. They offered a test to verify that that was the issue, then reset the car's brain to see if I could get it to pass and give me some time to get the money for replacing the cat. I went back when that attempt failed. They got me in, got the job done in half a day, and got me out the door. They don't have loaner cars available but they're right on several bus lines and the CL street car line. It's really nice to have them open up to 5:30 so you can pick up your car after work. The place doesn't look fancy, but I'd rather have dirty grease monkeys who know what they're doing than fluff and coffee. (has a 2002 VW New Beetle) read more

Brought a VW New Beetle for a prepurchase inspection for any mechanical problems. They did more then that which is great BUT they took door panels off etc, and could not get them properly back on. Now the person that I was attempting to buy the car from is going after legal action unless I pay for the repairs that this mechanic has done. BAD for business, not happy what so ever. I have nothing to say to these people because it is MY fault for taking it to such a place that won't take responsibility. read more

These guys are great. The shop was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm so thankful to have found them. They are friendly and trustworthy, and have your best interests in mind. When a repair was needed, they thoroughly explained the issue and provided options so I could make an educated decision. And when bringing my VW Passat in for 80K service recently, they didn't find anything wrong. A sign of an honest mechanic! read more

THESE GUYS ROCK. And this is well overdue. I found them through an Internet search when I got my Westy in 2008, great feedback online then, still true today. They are excellent at diagnostics and clearly love what they do and the cars they work on. They have done a lot of work on my van and nothing they've repaired has ever failed a second time. Speedy, reasonably priced, great to work with. They've gone the extra mile with me more than once, most notably when they tried to help me problem-solve a failed transmission that stranded me in northern California. Love these guys. Really. read more

It was my first experience at this place. I'm sure the workmanship is excellent but my first impression is that they don't charge any less but their public areas could use a once over. I saw mouse traps and the place was filthy. Maybe not much done to that area of the shop since it opened. The work was done by the owner while I waited and he was efficient and good and I was charged less than I expected to change the headlight bulb. When we went inside to pay I became both disturbed and hurt when he interrupted our transaction to help a white male customer who came in to drop off his vehicle. If it had been quick - just a passing off of the keys and I'll call you when we know... it would have been fine. But it was a longer exchange then warranted keeping me waiting. Something told me that this customer had priority over me - and I got the distinct sense it was because of the color of my skin and possibly my gender. Not a great way to start the day or a new relationship with an auto repair shop. Re-born and Expert Auto are great shops and I may just drive a little further to have a better experience. I was trying to continue to work with the shop that has serviced the car I bought for the past 5 years. read more

I don't know what to say about this shop. I don't know if 5 stars is enough to do them justice. I continue to be amazed by their customer service and willingness to share their knowledge and their own free time. Case in point, I dropped off my '89 Vanagon this morning, hoping they could fit me in, to take care of some much needed things before I left for my 10 day vacation to the redwoods. They couldn't make any promises but they squeezed me in to their full schedule because they knew how important this trip was for me. While that was service enough to earn 5 stars they pulled out all the stops when they realized that I had busted studs on an alternator bracket and it was not a good situation. I was very likely to be left high and dry at some point in the near future, and it'd probably be when I was farthest from home. Rather than wish me the best, Darrell and Trevor started right in to wrenching on my van...after the shop was closed. They didn't even hesitate once, they each took time out of their personal lives, stayed an hour late, and got me back on the road with as much piece of mind as one can have when they own a 26 year old vehicle heading on a 1,000 mile journey. In the end he charged me for the parts. Yep, just for the parts. Who does that now days? Not many. As a small shop and small business owner I feel there are none better than Darrel and his crew. I consider them to not only be my mechanics of choice but my friends. Thanks Precision Motor Car, you made my day and I can't thank you enough. read more
