A couple of weeks ago I had an issue with my 2017 Audi A4, where I could not go over 4000rpm. This place came highly recommended to me, and I am so glad it did. I called and they were able to get my car scanned the next day, which was really surprising given it was the week of Thanksgiving. They let me know that it was an issue with my thermostat and water pump and gave me the option of either taking it to the dealership and possibly getting it covered under warranty (unlikely), or having them fix it for $1,100. I chose to have them fix it just because of the amazing quote, and customer service that they gave me. My car was fixed it a few days and is as good as new. I reached out to several companies looking for pricing and availability to clean the intake manifold on our 2010 Jetta. I was immediately impressed with Darrell and felt this was the right place for our business. They got us in immediately and completed the job a day ahead of expectations and met their quote. This is when I found out they could not be trusted. "Technical Tap" on the dash board got them working again when I told them I just wanted to pick my van up anyway with no further work done. When asking other mechanics around town for a good VW shop, I heard about Precision. Because of the sometimes finicky and unique nature of our beloved german machines, I always prefer to take my car to a shop that specializes in or has VAG experience. Precision did not disappoint with a 160K service for my 2000 Passat. It was a good start when Trevor took down detailed notes of everything I mentioned when dropping the car off and gave me a clear explanation of plan of attack. In addition to the standard service, my aftermarket brake pads were rattling and the shop that installed them couldn't even fix it for me. These guys took the brakes apart, found a loose spring, decompressed it a bit and solved the issue. Now I don't sound like I'm driving a clunker from blocks away. Highly recommend. Most honest place I've taken my Subaru to in Portland. Had been to the dealer a couple years ago for a recall and they told my my heads were leaking, which was a common problem with my 2008 Outback, and that they needed to be done right away - $2500. Wanted a second opinion so found Darrell on Yelp. He said it was NOT an emergency and to just keep a watch on it as it was a very small leak. Was sold on the shop right there so continued taking it in for oil changes (great deal there too) so they could monitor. He said, ideally if we could wait til close to 105k miles, he could do the service due at that time which includes the water pump and timing chain. We did make it and he did that whole service plus the heads for slightly less that what the dealer quoted me for heads. Never going anywhere else! read more

I went to Precision when my previous Veedub shop changed owners to a chain. Prompt and upfront. I had a check engine light that caused me to fail DEQ due to my catalytic converter starting to fail. They offered a test to verify that that was the issue, then reset the car's brain to see if I could get it to pass and give me some time to get the money for replacing the cat. I went back when that attempt failed. They got me in, got the job done in half a day, and got me out the door. They don't have loaner cars available but they're right on several bus lines and the CL street car line. It's really nice to have them open up to 5:30 so you can pick up your car after work. This is my favorite place to get work done on my Volkswagen. I found them after trying to get a problem with an EPC light on in my dash fixed by both the dealership and another mechanic in Portland. Both times, the light came back on a few days after and was another $300 fix. I explained this to Darrell, who owns Precision, and he kindly explained to me what they were going to do to fix my problem, and if the light came back on that they would go back in and work on it for free. This is something neither the dealership or the other mechanic was willing to do. This was a few years ago, the light hasn't come on since the first time. They're always super friendly, honest, and have fair prices. I went in today to have my oil changed, and now Darrell's son works at the shop too, so they're really a family business! Brought a VW New Beetle for a prepurchase inspection for any mechanical problems. They did more then that which is great BUT they took door panels off etc, and could not get them properly back on. Now the person that I was attempting to buy the car from is going after legal action unless I pay for the repairs that this mechanic has done. BAD for business, not happy what so ever. I have nothing to say to these people because it is MY fault for taking it to such a place that won't take responsibility. read more

It was my first experience at this place. I'm sure the workmanship is excellent but my first impression is that they don't charge any less but their public areas could use a once over. I saw mouse traps and the place was filthy. Maybe not much done to that area of the shop since it opened. The work was done by the owner while I waited and he was efficient and good and I was charged less than I expected to change the headlight bulb. When we went inside to pay I became both disturbed and hurt when he interrupted our transaction to help a white male customer who came in to drop off his vehicle. If it had been quick - just a passing off of the keys and I'll call you when we know... it would have been fine. But it was a longer exchange then warranted keeping me waiting. Something told me that this customer had priority over me - and I got the distinct sense it was because of the color of my skin and possibly my gender. Not a great way to start the day or a new relationship with an auto repair shop. Re-born and Expert Auto are great shops and I may just drive a little further to have a better experience. I don't know what to say about this shop. I don't know if 5 stars is enough to do them justice. I continue to be amazed by their customer service and willingness to share their knowledge and their own free time. Case in point, I dropped off my '89 Vanagon this morning, hoping they could fit me in, to take care of some much needed things before I left for my 10 day vacation to the redwoods. They couldn't make any promises but they squeezed me in to their full schedule because they knew how important this trip was for me. While that was service enough to earn 5 stars they pulled out all the stops when they realized that I had busted studs on an alternator bracket and it was not a good situation. I was very likely to be left high and dry at some point in the near future, and it'd probably be when I was farthest from home. Rather than wish me the best, Darrell and Trevor started right in to wrenching on my van...after the shop was closed. They didn't even hesitate once, they each took time out of their personal lives, stayed an hour late, and got me back on the road with as much piece of mind as one can have when they own a 26 year old vehicle heading on a 1,000 mile journey. In the end he charged me for the parts. Yep, just for the parts. Who does that now days? Not many. As a small shop and small business owner I feel there are none better than Darrel and his crew. These guys were great- diagnosed the clogged valves on my 2010 VW CC and got them cleaned out quickly and for less cost than I was quoted at other shops. Also told me what other repairs are common on my vehicle so I can plan to have some things addressed before they become a roadside emergency. And my car hasn't run this well in months!
