Update since my March 2025 review: Since I was very satisfied with my backyard project which still looks great months later, I used Precision Landscape when I replaced my old lawn on my side yards and my front yard. I replaced the side yard grass and the the front yard grass area by the sidewalk with rock next. It came out great and have had no issues with weeds coming through like I've seen at some other houses in my neighborhood. I then replaced an area in my front yard closer to the house with the same artificial turf as the back yard and added a small paver patio, perfect for a bistro set. The rest of the old front yard lawn was replaced with rock and stones with two islands. A low wall close to the sidewalk that had been topped with wood was topped with concrete caps which really made the wall look much nicer. To finish off my front yard project, I replaced my old original 1963 cracked concrete driveway with a paver driveway that matches my bistro patio. It's hard to believe what a beautiful transformation I now have from the back yard to the front yard and street! I've had a lot of great comments from my neighbors and others who walk by regularly. Once work started, every weekday was a work day until finished. Each project always finished on schedule. I feel like I have made a lot of new friends after working with so many fine people at Precision Landscape over the last six months. We bought a new house in August and we knew the landscape and irrigation was all original, from the 70's, but knew it was something that we could fix. Well, we couldn't fix it on our own, but thankfully we found Precision Landscape Maintenance because they were able to work within our budget to completely transform our space into something incredible for our family. We had a design done up with our vision in mind and it was executed to perfection. They removed what looked like a city mile of dirt and rocks to completely replace the irrigation and set it up for a new automated system and the prepare for turf. Most companies don't go through the extensive process to ensure your turf has both proper drains, slope, and base under the turf, however Precision Landscape does without cutting any corners and goes above and beyond. The turf looks incredible and so does our new longue area complete with a gas line firepit! They ran a gas line for both our bbq and the new firepit and we are so happy to never have to deal with propane ever again! Their team was at our house everyday ready to work right on time and completed the job in what seems like record time. We thought it was going to take about a month with all the work they were doing, from new concrete, cutting existing concrete for the gas line, grass removal, irrigation installation, turf set up and installation and DG install. They were so efficient and great at their craft that they finished in under two weeks! We literally could not be happier with our backyard transformation. We have beautiful concrete steps, path and pad with our firepit to hang out around and a large turf area for our daughter to run on play on. The quality of both the work and the product, cement work and turf itself, were impeccable! We still have two more phases that we will be going back to Precision Landscape Maintenance for when we can save up. We are slowing working on plants, and they have been so great to find us the trees we wanted to plant within our budget so those are going in one at a time. We have an avocado and citrus tree now that they've found and planted, it just keeps getting better! We can't wait to transform our front yard but for the time being we are loving our incredible backyard thanks to Precision Landscape Maintenance. read more

Art and his crew just completed a midsize job at my house consisting of grading a slope on the side of my front yard and installing a 50 ft. retaining wall. It was truly a pleasure to work with Precision Landscape. Owners Art and Laurie Sanchez were great to work with. As for the crew, they were fantastic too. Once the job started, they showed up every day at 7 a.m. like clockwork until the job was done, which took approximately 8 days. (They even worked one of the days it rained.) The entire crew was very respectful and left a tidy workspace at the end of each day. A few of our plants suffered a bit of collateral damage during the construction process, but Art made sure he had those replaced. (For the record, there was no way to avoid damaging the plants, so I truly appreciated that they replaced them free of charge.) Big thanks also to the office staff, who periodically fielded questions from me and relayed them to the necessary recipients. The final project came out beautifully. I hired Precision Landscape in the summer of 2011 to do a $15k backyard renovation which included installing artificial turf, re-doing the irrigation in the beds, planting a bamboo hedge, installing Saltillo tile over a concrete slab and planting new plants. The project was supposed to take 2 weeks but ended up taking more than 6 weeks. I was told that there would be someone working at my house each day until the project was done, but some days, nobody would show. I was incredibly frustrated by my experience with Precision Landscape, but being a young, first-time homeowner I didn't know what to expect from a landscape company. The project finally finished and the end result turned out pretty good so I was moderately satisfied. That is until I came home from my 10 month military deployment to find my top of the line very expensive artificial grass had turned from a pretty shade of green to a "Kentucky Bluegrass" shade of blue/green! I was not happy. I had a remnant of the installed turf in my garage, and when I laid it over the installed turf, it was a completely different shade of green. There was no denying the turf had faded. Badly. I knew that Precision Landscape had an 11-year warranty on their turf products, so I figured it would be an easy replacement. It was not. Below is the timeline: Feb. 10th: Called and spoke with Katie about the fading and e-mailed her pictures. She said she would call me back in a few days and discuss a time for Art (owner) to come by and look at the fading. Feb. 14th: At the end of the week I hadn't heard anything back, so I called and spoke with Laurie (Co-owner and Art's wife). I was told Art was too busy with the SD Home and Garden show and couldn't come look at my grass until after the show. I demanded an appointment and was able to get on the schedule for March 6th. March 6th: Art came by and looked at it and tried to accuse me of a) using Simple Green to clean the grass b) suggested I must have high-efficiency windows made of copper that were fading the grass and c) that if I rubbed the grass with my fingers the color would come back. I laughed at these suggestions and told him I either wanted my money back or wanted it replaced. He asked me to give him 2 weeks to deal with the manufacturer. March 18th: After 2 weeks I called and left a message for Art and Laurie. No response. March 20th: I called again and left a message. No response. March 28th: I was able to get a hold of Art. He proceeded to personally insult me on the phone and told me that I was "very forward" and that "you want it right now. That's the way it's always been!" I pointed out that it had been 6 weeks since my initial call regarding the fading and that I didn't think asking the company to honor my 11 year warranty for an artificial turf that I paid over $3000 for was unreasonable. I told him if I didn't have a response I would file a claim with the Better Business Bureau and the California State Contractors Guild. I followed this up with a letter to the company on April 1st putting everything in writing. April 3rd: Laurie emails me explaining that they can't and won't do anything until they hear back from the Manufacturer. April 7th: I sent another letter response telling her that was unacceptable and that my warranty was through Precision Landscape, not the manufacturer. I set a final deadline of April 14th as the date I would file a complaint through the BBB and the California Contractor's Guild if the issue wasn't resolved. April 12th: Right before the deadline, Art finally agreed to replace the turf. The first available appointment was 3 weeks away April 30th: I finally received my replacement turf more than 11 weeks after making the initial warranty claim and only because I threatened (and had every intention) to file complaints with the BBB and Contractor's Guild. The new turf is fine, not amazing, but fine. However, I would in no way recommend Precision Landscape and would highly encourage anyone who cares about timeliness and their sanity to stay as far away from this company as possible. read more

I met Art, the owner of Precision Landscape at the Del Mar Home and Garden show in 2019 and liked his straight forward and friendly personallity. Late last summer my wife and I hired Art and his team to do a full tear-out and re-landscaping of our front yard. We had a vision of what we wanted, and Art's design team took our vision to the next level, which included a composite material deck and a series of concrete slabs incorporated into the design (two design components that we hadn't even thought of). The original time estimate was approximately 4 weeks, and the demo crew showed up on 1/19 and removed the exisiting turf and plants, and from that point on, crews showed up everyday to complete differents phases of the project. Art made frequent visits to check out the work, and always answered my calls to his personal cell phone whenever I called with questions or concerns. And this past Monday, 2/8, the final design features were completed well ahead of schedule. My wife and I love the results, and whenever I'm outside, everyone that passes by our house stops and talks with me about how amazing our yard looks! We never could have envisioned something so beautiful on our own, and I'm so glad that we chose Precision Landscape out of all the other companies that we could have contracted with. We have had Precision for weekly maintenance a few years now at a reasonable price. We had a semi-rough start at the beginning of our service, mainly because my wife nor I speak Spanish and couldn't get done what we wanted. The company worked out our concerns over several weeks and we now have a different crew that we can communicate with and they do a great 4 Star job. However, this review is for recent repair work. I replace the majority of my irrigation system with drip/soaker vs spray sprinkler heads. On my final test of the system, a line broke, mainly due to 30 + years of running under a tree along with the added pressure in the line due to the new drippers. I called Precision on Wed morning and they indicated their repair guy could help me on Friday morning which was fine with me. It turned out Salvador, was available Wed after lunch to assess the issue/possible solution for an hour. He was able to quickly find the split joint caused by the large tree roots (I was amazed that they had held so long as they two ends of pipe were now separated by several inches). What impressed me the most was Salvatore's solution. His recommendation was for a better long term solution, not a quick fix, to the root intrusions. He suggested we attached to the irrigation source on the other side of the tree and run drip lines above ground to the tree and several plants below to avoid as many roots as possible. The next morning Salvador located the water source pipe and installed the drip lines in a very timely manner. He also helped me adjust the flow pressure in my two irrigation stations to provide the right flow with minimum pressure so as to not blow out any of the newly installed sprinkler heads in my system. I greatly appreciate Salvator's great attitude and pleasant manner, but especially his smart long term solution for the issue and his assistance in making sure my system is running in an efficient manner. He did all of the work in two hours. I also appreciate the office helping coordinate Salvatore's time in addressing my issue as soon as possible. Hence my 5 Star rating for this service. read more

Spent nearly $30K on the back yard and had them come out several times for the decomposed granite which never hardened - it's all sand now. Half of the plants they planted died within the first 6 months and they said they were not guaranteed. Had them replace the gates to my back yard - the took down 6 foot gates and replaced with 5 foot gates??? I told them it was okay because I felt sorry the sales guy - now I wish I insisted they change them - but I thought they would take care of the other issues. I called many times about the DG that was between the flagstone and they sent someone out to try and harden it up but it never did. I believe it was a bad batch because the DG in the plant beds was fine. It was also a totally different color. Of course it was all paid for before it was complete so I could not hold money from them. I think they took advantage of a single woman and just said there was nothing more they could or would do. As a member of the HOA board in my condo community, I recently worked with Precision on a turf replacement project. Precision is also contracted with our condos to perform regular landscape maintenance in some of the common areas. This review is solely my own and based specifically on my experience working with them on the turf replacement project. Pros: - Beatriz. She was my main contact person from design thru to completion. She always returned my calls and emails in a timely manner and was very willing to work with me to create a proposal that fit our budget. - Flexibility. Not all landscape companies are willing to work with resident volunteers...it requires a good bit of communication and follow-thru (by all parties) to make it work. Precision held up their end and we were able to fit our budget by performing some of the tasks (mainly sod removal and mulching) ourselves. Precision converted pop-up spray irrigation to a drip system, and installed the decomposed granite pathway and drought-tolerant plants. Cons: - They can be busy and a little scattered sometimes. We started planning several months in advance because we wanted to make sure to meet our turf rebate deadline. Precision helped make sure we did! Disappointed that after an initial positive experience when I requested a "refresh" of our yard (6 years later) I was informed they no longer did that sort of work. We have a small yard and a large dog so I requested a groom and application of their product to minimize the odor, ensuring they understood we expected to pay for their time and product. I'm disappointed that they don't maintain what they install. I phoned other companies only to be told they would maintain but only if they installed. Unfortunately the quality of customer service that Precision Landscape offers does NOT reflect what they claim on their website: "We take great satisfaction in providing the highest quality customer service in San Diego." Instead, like the other reviewers say, the owner Art can insult you when you express your concerns or dissatisfaction, and the manager Laurie (Art's wife) is always on the defensive mode no matter what. I dread each time when I call their office to follow-up on problems/issues pending resolution and got switched over to Laurie. Interestingly, they often seem to want their new customers (we were once) know that they worship god and they go to house of god every Sunday. read more

Beatrice came out on 4/15/15 for an estimate. She told me I would have it early the following week. I never received any communication from her so I called back late the following week and was told they were busy due to the home show and I would have the estimate within a day or two. I had to keep calling back to find out where my estimate was. On 4/30/15 I received this in an email from Beatrice: HI ADELE, I HAVE ALL YOUR FIGURES CALCULATED AND THE PROPOSAL WRITTEN UP - I JUST NEED TO GET IT SIGNED OFF BY THE OWNER AND THEN I CAN DISTRIBUTE IT TO YOU (HE IS OUT SICK TODAY FROM THE OFFICE WITH PNEUMONIA, I WASN'T AWARE OF THIS WHEN I TOLD YOU I WOULD HAVE IT IN TO YOU TODAY). I AM GOING TO LEAVE IT ON FOR HIS WIFE/ LAURIE SO SHE CAN SIGN OFF ON IT AND THEN I WILL SEND IT TO YOU AS SOON AS SHE GIVES IT THE OK. THANKS! I didn't hear anything so I called Beatrice back. She apologized and again said how busy they were. She gave me a rough estimate of $27,000. On 5/5/15 I received this email from Beatrice: Hi Adele, the owner has yet not been able to sign off on it, he just got in yesterday and has been out in the field - I have yet to see him in the office, we had an appointment made yesterday at 2pm to review yours and other proposals I have pending and it got postponed until this morning and he is not in yet. Just because we have all been super swamped. What I can do for you as of now is give you the rough figures before he signs off on it. Now the estimate is $37,500, but she ended the email with this: We can wait to get it signed off by the owner because sometimes he does use lower prices that I am not allowed to use, and see what the new grand total is. As of 5/18/15, I have not received the final estimate. I would never work with a company with such poor communication and lack of customer service skills. I had to reach out each time to ask about my estimate. No communication from them and they sounded annoyed when I did call asking when I might receive my estimate. read more

Let's start with the appointment to meet with a designer- initial appointment was canceled and pushed out 2 weeks 2. The designer showed up (Rico) and said he would have a proposal for me in about 3-4 business days. 3. Email came 5 days later saying he could not get me the proposal as he had so many others and it would not be for another week 4. 3 weeks later I get another email asking if I still wanted a proposal or had I hired another landscape company. If I had not hired anyone, he could have it for me in a few days 5. For wasting my time, I still wanted the proposal as I was curious why it takes nearly a month to bid sprinklers, small lawn, drip irrigation, a large pergola and plants installed in 4 planters.( Budget ~ $12-15K) 6. Its been another week, I still don't have anything Bottom line, I cannot recommend this company. read more

I hired Art and his team to do a full remake of my backyard, essentially take out everything and start from scratch. Rico the designer did an amazing job putting together an excellent plan! I hired two other designers to do a plan and his blew the others out of the water. We started the project in June and finished in Sept about 2 weeks past schedule but the attention to detail was top notch, from installing the tile flush in the fireplace to waterproofing the retaining walls. The fireplace they built from scratch is a work of art. I had an old bbq they restuccoed and added a bar island to make a full outdoor kitchen that looks great. His team is professional and pays attention to detail so your job might take a longer, but I also added a few things during the project. Just keep in mind, you have to be involved on all steps to make sure it is all is turning out as you expect. Art is a stand up guy and will do as he says. read more

Precision Landscape designer Ms. Blair listened to what we were wanting and then created a design that was incredible. The work was done professionally and on time. The crew and manager were always happy, polite and concerned that we were happy with the completion of that days work. Everyone at Precision Landscape was always approachable and willing to listen to concerns or questions and to get back with the answers. A minor problem did crop up at the end of the job and the problem was fixed in a timely manner. We are thrilled with our new backyard and everything is growing beautifully!! Hired Precision Landscape in Sept 2014. They put turf in our backyard-we were not informed that our neighbors windows could cause our lawn to melt at the time they sold it to us. It started melting 7 mths after it was put in. I called in Aug 2015- after about 12 calls -finally in January-2016, Art (Boss) and the Turf rep came out and said it was due to our neighbors windows. They offered to replace it at a discounted price-why should I have to put more money out. BEWARE...They have the worst Customer Service and do not care about the customer....I put a complaint in with the BBB but did not get any where....I should of listened to the reviews on this company before I hired them. We met Rico at the Home & Improvement Show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds on April 17th. He was very nice, he asked us to leave our name and number so he could get back to us in regards to scheduling an appointment to come out to our home for an estimate/quote. We are looking to remove 3800 sq. feet of lawn and replace it with drought resistant landscape. We finally received a call a few weeks later. He then came out, we showed him the area that was in question. He seemed to have trouble gathering thoughts etc etc. Just didn't feel quite right. He said he would render a design and get back to us. 1 week passes, 2 weeks pass and we finally get a design of what looks like chicken scratch. I told him that his rendition did not take into consideration everything we had discussed. I, in fact, did my own rendition and sent it back to him. Today, June 3, I received an email notifying me that his work load was too much for him to put any work into new clients.
