I wasn't in any pain, but I needed a root canal and this office is in-network for both my GEHA and Cigna dental insurance plans. The office is located on Main St. in Williamsville. You turn onto S. Long St. and you'll see that it's on the tail-end of the building. The signage isn't super obvious, so keep an eye out. And they do have parking spaces for you. Check-in was quick and simple. The front office (Lisa) had already called my general dentist to get the tooth and insurance information. So, I filled out a couple standard forms and was almost immediately called in to be seen. The root canal went perfectly, as far as I can tell. It was near painless during the procedure and I have yet to experience much discomfort afterwards. What more can you ask for? It did seem like my tooth presented a couple surprises and took awhile (as is typical), but Dr. Shostad kept me at ease the whole time. Her and her assistant (Jacky) have a great chemistry. I felt like I was getting a personal comedy show and it was hilarious...Dr. Shostad the comic and Jacky the straight man. Hey, hopefully you don't need an endodontist anytime soon...but, this is definitely the place to go if you do. :-)

I had to cancel an appointment due to an unexpected medical issue and called the office immediately to reschedule. Instead of showing any understanding, I was told I would be charged a $145 cancellation fee -- even after offering to provide a doctor's note confirming the medical situation. The office refused to accept it and said I could not reschedule unless I paid the fee. When I reviewed the financial agreement, it only listed a range of possible fees -- it did not state that the charge was mandatory or specify exact amounts for missed appointments. When I asked for additional documentation or written policy to support their decision, I was told none existed. For a healthcare provider, I find this lack of compassion, flexibility, and transparency very disappointing. Medical issues are often unpredictable, and I expected a much more understanding and professional approach from a dental office. Unfortunately, this experience showed otherwise.

I have been to Choice 1 about 20 times, mostly for routine cleanings…read more Once they fixed a broken filling, which was done without any fuss or complications. I have no experience with more complex procedures. Surprisingly, the cleanings have been consistently non-painful compared to other offices. When I sit in the chair, I can actually relax. It is almost like going to a spa. Once when they were short-handed, the dentist did the cleaning herself. I jokingly complimented her on cleaning as well as her hygienists. She said that she trains her staff in some techniques. Maybe that is part of the magic. They are almost always on time. Rarely I have had to wait at most 10 or 20 minutes. No big deal. The dentist running the business, Vasuki Thevanayagam is not just a good dentist, but also a good businesswoman. It appears she hires the right people. She is not above answering the phone when her staff is busy. She realizes customer service involves more than just quality dental procedures. The pricing and billing is correct. They do not attempt to up-sale me with unnecessary expensive procedures. No made-up problems, such as claiming there is a cavity when there actually is none. Every time I go there, nothing bad happens. No rude employees, no upset patients, no disasters, no drama. Just a nicely boring regular dental office where everything works as it should.

My anticipatory anxiety was unfounded as the doctor and the office made sure I was comfortable (in every way) the entire time. And no, it did not hurt. Perhaps minor discomfort that evening, Tylenol managed fine. The office was pleasant with a view out a window to distract yourself (unless you close your eyes and go to your happy place instead). The office manager was amazing, taking phone calls, greeting patients, doing it all with the most cheerful attitude. That sure helps reduce hesitation when you walk in. The dental assistant was kind, and even asked what music I'd like to hear. Clearly, the doctor leads this stellar team and when he walks in, you are confident you're in good hands. I'm hoping not to return any time soon, but if you need a root canal, Dr. McCann is your endodontist. I left and was told I needed to have a permanent crown put on within a few weeks. I recently moved home and am uninsured so I had to pay out of pocket which was not cheap but I was happy with the procedure. Unfortunately it is 2 months later and I still have temporary cap on my tooth. I have been attempting to find a dentist having moved home to do the crown and get it squared away. This leads me to my dilemma and being extremely unsatisfied with my interaction with one of the secretaries who stated her name was "Chris". I have called in probably 5-6 times over the past weeks to try to get my records sent to me via email in order to relay the data to a new dentist. Every time she has stated she would do it and has not been able to send a simple email as well as seeming short and extremely unprofessional. Last week on Thursday I called again and she stated she would send them but was having "computer issues". I then called back on Friday again where she said the same and then followed up in the afternoon where she said the same thing. I had another dentist waiting both days for the data from them. It is very strange that a simple sending of an email has turned into this. I am not sure what is going on with that but it is very strange and has directly affected my health and time and scheduling and I will be following all this up thoroughly as Ive had to scramble and get emergency health insurance and the temporary filling is coming loose. Terrible terrible experience bc of her.
