I took my Ford F250 diesel there. They claimed there were no codes and therefore they couldn't identify a problem. They charged me $75 and away I went. I went online to research and saw right off you need a particular code reader (OBD2) for the ford truck. I purchased one and two days later read over 20 codes on my truck. I ended up spending over $4k because after diagnoses from a diesel shop near Portland found contaminated fuel, bad and two sensors. These guys don't know jack about diesels or they are scammers. read more

The only place to go in The Dalles is Precision Auto. My family and I were on a road trip from Medford to Idaho. Long story short our engine blew. I called them crying from the middle of no where and they calmed me down and told me to call back if I needed anything and that we would get there safely. They tried their hardest to get us back on the road while also playing with my baby, giving us water and fitting us into their busy schedule. This was also the Friday before Christmas. I would not take anything to them they have terrible mechanics and I wanted my trans main shaft seal fixed and my 5 gear nut was screwed witch that's what you get for a nv4500 and I got it rebuilt by them and now it shift like garbage and I took it back in and they said it was my u-joints where bad witch had just been fixed do not take anything there they wanted 700 bucks to fix just u-joints I would even take my girl friend there to have her issues fixed read more

I was referred to Precision Automotive under some unfortunate circumstances, but had a very pleasant experience nonetheless. My Jeep overheated on the way to Hermiston, spraying coolant all over my engine bay. I managed to get a tow through my insurance company to Precision Automotive in the Dalles. They were able to fit me in next day to have my Jeep looked at. After running diagnostics they concluded that the water pump needed to be replaced as well as the head gasket. I was given a very good quote and went through with the recommended repairs. After picking up my rig I couldn't be happier. I was a first time customer, I'm local and had a check engine light on my Chev Cruise so took it to this place. I first called and the person on the phone was very friendly and really seemed to want to help. I told them that I had a diagnostic check and gave them 3 codes over the phone. When I showed up about 10 minutes later they told me that my car was going in next, have a seat, they're going to look into the issue, then talk about pricing afterwards. I was in the waiting area the whole time. They seemed really busy so I was patient and understanding. When the technician came into the front his diagnostic check was the same result I got and said that the gas cap was missing a partial seal, oil cap not twisted straight, and no explanation about the clutch sensor code. After knowing this the rep said they were going to try a new gas cap, twist the oil cap properly to see that fixes the issue. At this point, two hours passed, no charging or pricing was mentioned so I assumed maybe there won't be a charge thinking they were just trying something? When everything was done, I noticed my car was in the same position(outside the shop's garage) entire time. I was charged nearly $100 for a gas cap, twisting oil cap straight and diagnostic check. These things could have been done on my own and they didn't go over pricing with me before doing everything. I feel I was taken advantage of. I was happy to take my car here but with that end result it was not a good experience. -Chris read more

I have a Audi S4 that needed a tune up. I had taken it for an oil change at a different company, and after waiting for the special filter I was told that they couldn't perform the oil change due to not having a dipstick. Audi uses an electronic sensor for the oil instead of a dipstick. I called precision auto, because I also needed some other work done (Windshield wash pump, spark plugs, oil change and other items.) They provided a quick and professional job at a great price. Living in the Gorge is beautiful, but it's hard to find a quality auto shop that will even touch a European car. They did a great job and I highly recommend them. I'm taking my Audi Q5 next for a tune up as well. read more

Breaking down over a thousand miles from home can be a bit daunting. The folks over at Precision Automotive made it easier on me. While towing my car into town I did a search for shops since the closest shop to me wouldn't even look at my car for another two weeks. Precision Automotive was at the top of the search results. I made the call and they took me in without a hitch. I don't know if they were still there because of me or not, but I'm pretty sure I dropped the car off after hours and they were still at the shop... Either way, good by me! I wish I had the time to fully fix the car, but they got my car put back together and diagnosed so I had a better idea of what was wrong with the dead motor. If I had been closer to home, I probably would have had them do the full fix. read more

Our VW EOS had an issue with A/C. When we took it to Herzog-Meier VW in Beaverton and after keeping it three weeks they said they would have to replace every component since they couldn't determine the issue. We took it to Precision and they found a bad component that was giving an error and replaced it. Although that didn't fix the complete problem this work had to be done to find the actual issue. Once the first error was cleared, they found what was causing the problem, gave us a discounted price on parts and service due to having the first problem fixed. They did the work, guaranteed the job and it was all completed for less than 1/2 of what the dealer wanted. It also only took a few days compared to the dealers 3 weeks. read more

Was a first time customer referred to Precision Automotive. Could not be more pleased with professionalism, price, and quality of work. If one word could sum up my experience it would be "trustworthy". Had an older car that we needed to get running so that we could sell the vehicle. There could have been numerous things done to the vehicle, but Precision limited the work to meet what we wanted to achieve, no more, no less. Did not take advantage of the situation, and was honest. After leaving the shop we took the car a couple of blocks away to have it detailed. The owner of the detail shop noticed that the carburetor began acting up. Knowing we had the car worked on at Precision, he called Precision and Precision did additional work on the car at no charge so that we could drive away from the detail shop without a problem. They care about their customers, and want them to be satisfied, and go the extra distance to make sure that happens. Would recommend them without reservations!!! read more

My 83 year old father recently took his 1995 Toyota Corolla with 129k miles on it for a regular oil change to Precision. He puts 4-5K miles a year on it. The Corolla was brought into Precision with no oil leaks, and no history of oil leaks. No known issues. Upon getting the rig back however, a number of oil leaks had begun. When my father returned to the shop the next day to inquire what was happening he was told they would need to do a color test in an effort to track the multiple leaks down, and it was their best guess that multiple gaskets were bad. This guess was based upon the age of the vehicle. The repairs would likely be north of $600, and they suggested my father sell the vehicle rather than spend the money to fix it. When I dropped by the next day to follow up on this with Precision, Rick (owner?) told me the same thing. When I suggested they may have overfilled the oil during the oil change, he denied it. He simply attributed it to the age of the vehicle. I emailed the next day to follow up with Precision, asking for a written estimate of the work to be done. There was no response... It's my opinion that Precision overfilled the rig and was unwilling to take responsibility for doing so. I understand things happen, however, I felt they were dismissive and somewhat condescending towards me during our discussion, and demonstrated an unwillingness to make this right. Perhaps they are very busy and aren't interested in my business. That's fine, their choice of course. I currently own 4 vehicles. read more

This is an awesome place, my battery died pretty badly and because of the after market things installed it couldnt muster up enough to turn over. Had it towed there and they used the super charger and got it running. The price for labour woulda been 55$ but due to some circumstances the guy said it was all good that hed take that one so he really saved me in a pinch..... thank you again guys! read more

Excellent service! Very friendly and they got my 2013 Jetta back to me in tip top shape. Price was about half what the dealer would have charged for the timing belt, water pump service. I have always seen pretty unusual cars at this place being worked on at this shop (VW Things, old FJ's, military stuff, and just not ordinary vehicles) and they must be able to work on anything. What's worse than driving on a lonesome highway in the middle of nowhere at 4 p.m. on Labor Day, the first day of your vacation, and having the Check Engine Light come on? And your phone doesn't work out there? That's the position we were in. The car is a 2008 Hyundai Accent with under 50,000 miles on it and an excellent maintenance record. We carefully drove to our first destination, Dufur, OR. OK, spent the night and called Precision Auto in The Dalles the next morning. Now The Dalles is the exact opposite direction from where we were going on vacation. But we drove there (carefully) and arrived around 11 a.m. on Tuesday. James and Henry were able to scan our car and find out the problem was a fairly important sensor, so we decided to go ahead and have them fix it. Unfortunately no one in The Dalles or Hood River had the part so they had to order it from Portland. It took over four hours to deliver it and they close at 5 p.m. (We had an unexpected day of walking and shopping around downtown The Dalles, which was not unpleasant.) But they got the job done in about a half-hour (it cost $350) and we were able to continue on our vacation, even though it was a longer drive to Sisters than we expected. Worked next door to the place So being a single mom working 2 jobs I took advantage of the situation. I need new struts in the front. went to get my car and there seemed to be a problem they had order two right no left. they kept my car all week end and gave me a loaner. when the owner offered me the company van for the week end I wonder what was up? Well around a week later on my way to work my muffler pipe broke right up next to the engine . I knew then that something must of happen when the car was hoisted. So had the owner of Precision look at it First words out of his mouth was you must of hit something. well I'm a female but I'm not that stupid . So he fixed it and charge me as much as it would of cost me to get a brand new muffler system. well I was done so I thought week later on the way to work my driver's side front tire bent off almost. so I walked to work but told the owner I wasn't happy and I let him know I thought the damage to my car was do to his employee. anyway he fixed my car but I still feel he pocketed about 2,000 of my money for repairs that shouldn't of cost me a dime read more
