These guys were very knowledgeable, reasonable, and honest. Our truck broke down near Ely on a cold winter night. We had it towed to Precision Auto and found a nearby motel for the night. The next morning, they immediately diagnosed our truck's problem and provided us with options for repair. They fixed our engine problem, and we were back on the road again that day. It was clear that they understood the hardship of the people traveling through rural Nevada who experience vehicle trouble. This is the worst group I have ever heard of! My fathers truck broke down three weeks ago and they still haven't fixed it. They keep putting the incorrect parts in and they never return calls. Told him he would have a yes or no on if they were capable of fixing by 12/3 after two weeks of messing with it. It is now 12/9 and they won't even return his calls! We live 900 miles away and he can't work without his truck. When yhey we're talking to him early on after Thanksgiving, they had put the wrong parts in twice! It's as if nothing is getting done except charging him money for work that doesn't resolve the issue. He just wants to pay for the work and have the truck picked up by a transport company. Since no one will return his call, I am going to be forced to seek legal assistance just to get the truck back! read more

Review by my bro...... These guys are wonderful. I was vacationing with my family in Great Basin National Park when our car's check engine light came on. We decided that we needed to check on it right away, and we drove to Ely NV to try to find a mechanic. I called Precision Auto Repair, and mentioned that I would arrive a few minutes after their closing time and they said "no problem, we'll make sure someone is available when you arrive". They were able to diagnose the problem in only a few minutes, confirmed it was just an oxygen sensor that was likely thrown off by the high altitude of Great Basin National Park, and wouldn't accept any payment for their services despite our stated desire to pay! Highly highly recommend! read more

When they installed a radiator for me they used a rubber plug from an old radiator and it broke in two weeks! It cost me $160 to find the leak and replace the broken plug at another car shop. When I confronted Andre about this (the owner) he yelled at me and simply put the phone down not willing to hear about it. read more

En route to Ely for the night, our van was vibrating out of Williams, AZ and increased through and out of Vegas. Set up an emergency appointment just out of Vegas with Precision. They took me in at 9a the next day.. Upon hearing more of the issue, Andre recommended I go across the street to a tire place. He said he didn't want to charge me for time and labor if it turned into a tire issue. It turned out it was a tire issue. Thank you, Precision, for looking out for us in this way. read more

Traveling from Southern Nevada to Southeast Idaho with a private heavy-loaded equipment truck and trailer, we had a problem with rear brake drums heating up to a hot condition on the truck, which affected braking ability.  Searching for a repair shop in Ely, Nevada on a Saturday morning we contacted Precision Auto Repair which was only open until noon on Saturday but told us they would take a look at our truck at 8:00 AM on Monday morning. Arriving at a time specified Monday morning they immediately worked on our truck as they knew we were traveling and had to stay over the weekend in a motel. We were impressed with employees and the owner of the business treating us with respect. They almost right away solved the problem of brake drums (that were newly purchased) being out of round and defective from the factory. They turned the drums and corrected the heating problem. We were promptly repaired and were able to travel safely home thanks to their professional repair and courtesy. read more

Consumer beware. I took my car to Precision Auto despite multiple people warning me to stay away. I took my car in Saturday 5/25 for an oil change. Julie wrote up my work order and did not inform me they would be closing early. I was left for 3 days without a car, car seat or stroller because of the shops failure to inform me that they closed at 2pm that day. The hours on their door say 8 to 5 as well as the internet. I tried to call the emergency number which did not have a working phone. Tuesday morning I was late to work while waiting for the shop to reopen. The owner Andre gave me my keys and said never to come back since I was not paying for the service. Had they informed me of their closing time they would have been paid. The wife julie has written me letters saying they are pursuing legal action despite being told by andre to take my car and go. Avoid this shop at all costs. Totally unprofessional! It sucks because Daniel was a good mechanic and I lost him. read more

I was passing through Ely in my RV near 5PM on a Friday when my windshield wipers started acting sluggish. Found Precision Auto Repair on the main drag so pulled in. They were closing but gave me a quick diagnosis (bad alternator) / told me to go ahead to KOA and camp as planned / and he would come out in AM to get my rig back to town and fix me up...which he did. Really liked their good communication about what was wrong and the cost. Also the place seemed to have lots of business and there were several guys hustling to get the work done. After calling several other shops for a needed repair while we were traveling, Precision Auto Repair (PAR for the rest of this review) was the only shop willing to help. Our dually inner fender liner was hanging down on top of the tire and needed to be secured. After stopping by the auto part store for the plastic bolts we went to PAR. The gentleman stopped what he was doing and was able to get us back on the road in 15 minutes. I was so impressed with how they actually cared about a customer that they would never see again. Picture this - traveling across central Nevada, literally 100+ miles from a town of any size, our instrument panel went dark. No speedometer, gas gauge, temperature gauge, transmission gear indicator, etc. The car was still running but we had no idea for how long. To top it off, the door chime started to go off and we listened to it nonstop for almost 2 hours. As we were coming into Ely, it started to snow fairly hard. It then occurred to us that this was President's Day and if we could find an open repair shop of any kind, it would be a miracle. Having reestablished cell phone service (gotta love central Nevada!), I found a listing for Precision Auto Repair. I dialed the number and they answered the phone. They got us right in, checked it out, and in less than an hour had us back on the road. I can't recommend them highly enough. read more

But we had a lot more miles to go so I decided to get it fixed. His prices are reasonable but more important Andre was honest and an expert at car repairs. read more

My truck broke down out on hwy 50 and I got towed to this shop. Nothing fancy but they got right on it and I was back on the road the same afternoon. Andre and his crew are upright honest people. I'd give these guys 6 out of 5 stars! These guys are effing amazing. My wife and I were traveling across the hot Nevada desert inJuly 2014 when that horrible, mysterious sound comes from the bottom of the car, and getting worse by the minute. After Austin, the next gas stop is in Ely and thankfully the guys at Precision are able to look at our car within 20 minutes, maybe even less. It is 4:45pm (they are about to close) and they can fix it, but requires us to wait overnight. Hey these guys have families too! Repairs to a malfunctioning driveshaft (basically drill out and re-lube, not a simple job) are completed on our 2004 Subaru by 9:30am the next morning for only $115. WTF Batman? Subie repairs usually start at $100 just to put on the lift. Somehow we have managed to be in Ely, NV several times before, but these guys made us feel welcome. Thank you so much! read more

Driving highway 50 from Utah to California (the "Lonliest Highway in America ") in a motorhome can be an RVers travel experience. We have driven this highway several times, but this time was, instead, a travel nightmare. In June we were headed home when our RV engine started overheating. After adding coolent, we were still overheating until we could no longer move. To make matters worse, we also had no telephone service. We unhooked the car and drove 30 miles westward until we had service and could phone our emergency repair service (Good Sam -- excellent service, by the way). Good Sam sent a tow truck our way, and we were towed 50 miles to Ely. Luckily, our tow-truck driver took us to the best repair service in town and probably the best we've ever been to: Precision Auto Repair. Andre, the owner, and his mechanic, Roller, worked diligently on the RV until they were able to get us back on the road. Turns out it was a major job: blown head gasket and bent valves, so it took awhile to get parts so that they could repair it. Knowing we had a long way to get home, they were determined to totally fix the engine and not just put a band-aid on it. We can't praise these two men enough. They were outstanding mechanics who really knew what they were doing. They were conscientious and professional. Andre allowed us to stay in our motorhome while they worked on it and even let us plug into his electric and hook up to his water. Ely is not the best place to break down, but if you need auto/RV repair and you're in the area, definitely go to Precision. read more

Here is my review of Precision Auto in Ely, Nevada. The first questions the people from this company asked when I pulled in to the shop were questions like "What race area you and why are you traveling alone?" Irrelevant questions I felt did not apply to the immediate business of fixing my car. Andre gave me a ride back, which was nice but from then on it was a series of screw ups. They kept saying my car wasn't ready and the parts needed to be ordered, kept saying this for an entire two weeks. I've never had a mechanic shop keep my car so long before in my life. I realize this is a small town but that is ridiculous. How are you supposed to take off work for that long? Multiple times their meth-head looking secretary would call me to tell me the car was done and then tell me that it was just a false alarm and it wasn't quite done yet. This caused me to have to go all the way back to Ely again, a whole hour from where I was. Why couldn't they have just called me when the whole thing was done and ready so I could pick it up? The answer? They were playing games. In the end they charged me $982 and didn't fix the problem. I went back to them but... after they said it was finished they explained that it was fine but had a few "minor" problems." The car made it out of the mechanic shop driveway, barely, of course, then overheated and died again, in the middle of downtown Ely. Which was more like a major issue, ya know? I went back and they told me it would be another couple hundred bucks to get it resolved, but even then they didn't know if that was the whole problem, bringing the total up to $1300 with no end in site and the problem never totally fixed. I got out of Nevada as fast as I could manage on a car they hadn't fixed all the way, to get back to Utah and find a nice Mormon mechanic. Don't let my bad, questionable, even racial service affect yours after this review. Maybe you'll have better luck with them than I did. Somehow I doubt it. Through my own research I discovered that Precision has three complaints against them with the Better Business Bureau, two of the cases unresolved. The people I ate with at restaurants in Ely also told me they didn't think much of them either, and I asked four different sources. As evidence of how bad they were, Precision frequently closed early at only one or two in the afternoon. And with all the benefits that a small town provides, I could see their lead man's Cadillac parked across the street at his house at half past eight on a weekday, proving that they not only "close early", they also open late. Freedom of Speech is one of our amendments. So that's why this review is so passable. I apologize if this review affects any of the service you receive but people have the right to know. read more
