My wife and I visited Petersburg Jeweler this past Saturday, and she brought several pieces of jewelry that Mark will be taking apart and completely redesigning into new pieces. After seeing what he can do and talking with him about his work, it quickly became apparent that this isn't simply a jewelry store -- Mark is an incredibly talented craftsman and designer who truly knows his trade. While we were there, Mark cleaned my wedding rings as well as another diamond ring for me while we waited. I have had jewelry professionally cleaned before, but nothing even comes close to the job Mark did. When he handed my rings back to me, I was genuinely blown away. They didn't just look clean -- they looked better than new. The diamonds absolutely sparkle, and even the metal itself looks incredible. I honestly had forgotten just how beautiful these rings could look. I also left him a Tiffany chain that my wife and I had originally given to my mother. It has tremendous sentimental value to me, and I wanted Mark to lengthen it so that I could wear it myself from time to time. I also left another chain with him to clean. Once again, the quality of his work was outstanding. What impressed us just as much as the craftsmanship was how Mark treated us. He took his time, answered our questions, explained things, and never once made us feel rushed. There was no pressure and no feeling that he was trying to hurry us along to get to the next customer. The entire experience was personal, professional, and first-class from beginning to end. Knowing that Mark has the background and experience of having worked as a lead jewelry designer before opening his own business makes perfect sense once you see his work. This is someone who clearly takes tremendous pride in his craft. There are plenty of places where you can buy jewelry. Petersburg Jeweler is where I would go when the jewelry actually matters. Whether it is a valuable piece, something sentimental, a repair, a redesign, or simply making a treasured piece look spectacular again, Mark has earned our trust. I thought that was a fair price and so I agreed to the repair. When I picked up my jewelry there was no holder.I was told that the original O ring was soldered. I had no idea that the O ring needed any type of repair. The O ring is very small and on the receipt there was a large O ring drawn which I assumed was the holder. Upon closer inspection I can see that the drawing was referring to the original O ring, but no one explained to me that the original O ring was an issue. I brought the pendant home and placed a swinging holder on the O ring just as I had it before the repair and that is how i will wear it. I am right back to where I was before I spent $29. I wanted a non swinging holder to prevent the pendant from swinging. I have used this business before for jewelry repairs and was completely satisfied. I will never ever take any jewelry to this business again. I feel as if I was a victim of a switch and bait scheme. It is a lesson learned. I should have checked the BBB for a review, but this business is not registered on their site. That should be a warning for everyone. Make sure you get your expectation in writing before you do business with any business. Just beware. We are living in a time that integrity and trust is not to be assumed.

I brought it in and they told me it would take about a week and they were done appraising it in about a day. I think it helped that I had all the paperwork that mentioned what kind of stones and metals were used in my ring. When I brought the ring in, I was helped immediately and given a yellow piece of paper to bring in when I returned. They asked for my full legal name and address. They gave me a call when they were done. When I returned, I showed the slip, got my ring back, and an appraisal sheet. They had me review the sheet to make sure everything was written correctly before getting the Appraiser's signature. This cost me $90, which after some research seemed to be the cheapest and most affordable cost for an engagement ring appraisal. It's a tiny shop with Carytown style parallel parking out front. The only downside about this shop is that it smells like cigarettes, but I was in and out of there so quickly this didn't affect my experience. Plus I got great service! I highly recommend visiting.

He took it to the back each time he adjusted it. Once he had gotten it to my liking he went to the register and spent almost the same amount of time fumbling with the register as he did adjusting the watch. Then, he says, "$10". I fork it over but $10? Thats steep for a 5 minute adjustment. I went home and after a few days it felt too tight so I looked up the method to adjusting the band and what I found was disheartening. It is such a simple process, just use a flathead screw driver and flip the clip up, done. This man charged me $10 for that. Granted I should have looked it up in the first place, I still think this jewelry store could use some lessons in ethics. They took me for my money, don't let them.
