Lori has such a fun, friendly, and upbeat personality, which greeted us upon entrance to her adorable studio. She even had our newborn baby's name written on the sign outside to welcome us, which I regrettably forgot to take a picture of. :( We knew to plan for about a three hour session, as all of the information we needed to prepare was sent by Lori via email as well as conveniently available on her website. Lori was so patient and really took her time in order to get the best shots- immediately recommending that the baby be fed so she would be sleepy for photos. Watching Lori at work was inspiring- so meticulous in her posing of the family and baby, making sure that every last hair was in place and every little detail was captured. She was also great about ensuring adequate time for diaper changes and nursing, understanding that these elements are critical in the ability to capture a beautiful photograph. I had Fern photograph three events, my wedding ceremony (~100 people), my mehndi (~100 people) and…read moremy reception (~550 people). All 3 events were at different locations in the Bay Area and were a blend of Bangladeshi and Nigerian traditions. Fern was wonderful to work with, for all events. With all the stress of wedding planning (especially with multiple events, and when you are planning from the other side of the country!), Fern made things so much easier. She was always very professional, quick to respond to emails or texts. She was very open in asking what I was looking for and to working with my budget. In particular, at all 3 events, I was impressed by her professionalism. If you have ever been to a Desi wedding, then you know how pushy guests can be go take photos with the bride and groom. But Fern was extremely patient with these guests, and did not get upset when they would block her to take their own cell phone photos or repeatedly made requests for her to take photos. I think I got more annoyed with them than she did! haha Even though my wedding ceremony was her first time photographing a Muslim wedding, she was extremely respectful of our traditions and customs, and made sure beforehand that she knew what to expect. And finally, the final photos are breathtaking. I only have my full album from the wedding ceremony so far, but I already know that the photos from the other events will be amazing as well. Her prices are very reasonable compared to industry averages (though I find the industry averages too expensive for the average person and I do regret spending as much money as we did). If I'm being completely honest though...and at the risk of sounding picky/unreasonable/mean (?...I really am not intending to be), we were not as content as some of her other customers. There were several shots that were just repetitive/the same shot with slight change in movement. There were several shots where some of the people in the photos had their face/body protruding...a simple nudge/tip to the people to tilt their head down/to lean slightly forward would've helped) There were several shots where some people were not looking at the camera (again, a simple nudge tip to direct people to look at the camera would've helped). Maybe it's just that we are especially unphotogenic and needed more direction than even what Anna usually provides. I honestly hate 50% of the photos we were given back. Lastly, it seemed like we were a forgotten customer/second thought at times...there were things we had to ask for that were said to be included in Anna's services (I don't want to get into the details)...I do wonder if we hadn't asked, if they would've just been forgotten. (I feel like there's pressure to continue with the 5 star reviews given that that's all there's been, but I just can't).
