Should have checked reviewed before we went in. Our photographer didn't know how to work a camera and because of that we couldn't even capture some of the photos we went in for and he couldn't figure out why.. then the ones he did capture were never checked and we didn't not receive them, which we later found out was "because we blinked" and "if they knew they could have redone the photos" however we live 30 minutes away and were already home. One we did receive the top of my head was cut off and the back drop edges can be seen, they duplicated every single photo to drop into our album to make it look like we got a lot- by the time we went through it we actually only had 9 photos (they didn't go through the album with us there, just asked us if we wanted to pay an additional $100 for them to select 3 photos for a collage). Worst experience and they refuse to give any refund for their sloppy work. I have people asking me what friend took the photos bc of the quality if that tells you anything, next time I will get a friend to take them. read more

Horrible service! No photography skills at all. Anyone can click better pictures than the photographer. Our appointment was at 3:15 pm but we got our session started at 3:50 pm. We had to go to a party post session but we were ready for little delay in our plans. Photographer started a timer for our session. He was rushing and putting everything on us being in hurry. Reality was the poor skills of photographer himself. He couldn't click one good pictures out of 10 shots he took. Any photo session generally takes 30 mins. Our session was not even 15 mins. None of the pictures were up to our satisfaction. Since we were using a Groupon coupon, we had to order pictures. I don't want to give any star to this photographer. This is not the first time we used JC Penny Portraits. But after this experience, I am not going to Stoneridge mall, Pleasanton location to get photographed. read more

Still unprofessional; I had a small request for the headshot that I wanted taken, and I was dismissed multiple times about it. This is the second time I have been to this studio, and the first time it was no better. I had multiple photos taken, and just by pure luck, one of them turned ok - one out of 20. I went in to redo this, and I was wanting to be a bit more decisive, but they are constantly in a rush - there are instructions on how to stand etc., but if you have any special asks, you will be dismissed. The reason this place still exists is because it is in a corner of jcp, and jcp still exists. There is no reason to go here though, because in a completely empty mall, when there is nobody around, if you're being told that "time's up," "it is very busy today," - when you have been there for no more than 10 minutes, you know that you are not welcome. read more

I purchased the outdoor package for digital and 8 actual prints for $169. I am still waiting to receive my prints in the mail. My son's senior photos were taken April 29th! My credit card was billed the total amount. I was told to allow a week for processing. I have been calling the number provided by life touch and emailing since May 8th. No one ever answers the phone. You are prompted to "press 2 to speak with a representative" and then after pressing #2, you're told to visit a website for further help and the call is abruptly ended. No one at the JCPenny indoor location at Polaris Mall in Columbus, Ohio are of any help. They direct you to call a number that is never answered, and voicemail messages are never responded to. The employees are extremely rude and dismissive. No one has once expressed an apology for the inconvenience or delay. I've been cut off and talked over. At the time of me writing this review, I just ended a call with someone at the indoor mall location and was actually laughed at! At this point, I plan to contact my credit card company to dispute this charge for reversal of funds. NEVER, NEVER, EVER use JCPennny portraits (indoor or outdoor) for any of your needs. Instead of having a memorable experience with family and friends, you will walk away dealing with a headache and frustration from trying to receive your images, not in a timely manner, but period! My son graduates in less than a week, and I still don't have the images I paid for to share with family and friends at his party. This is THE worst service I've ever experienced of ANY kind of service provided! User's recommendation: Go elsewhere to capture your precious moments! read more

We had such a wonderful experience. Several days prior to the photoshoot we had someone call us to confirm the appointment and go over what we wanted done. We booked an extended session because we had small children in the photos and didn't want to feel rushed by the time. They asked what kind of grouping configurations we had in mind and they were very open. When we got to the studio we were greeted by Felicia. She helped us decide on background colors that complemented our outfits. She was extremely patient with our group (some kids were getting cranky) but she was able to work them into the photos. She was able to quickly get some very precious pictures of the littles that we instantly gushed over when our session ended. We didn't feel forced or pressured into buying anything and she helped us make decisions that made sense for us. I could not be happier with my experience with Felicia! read more

I took my son there for all his infant milestone pictures, and LOVED IT! Staff was friendly, pictures turned out great, and the price was good. Second time around I wanted to take my twins there for all their milestone pictures, however policies changed. Even though I am a member and the sitting cost is covered by the membership, that only covers the cost for one of my children. So I either have to make a trip back a different day with my other 3 month old or pay an additional cost to book a different time slot that day since the membership only covers one family member per day. This is a HUGE inconvenience for a working mom of a toddler and twin 3 month olds. It's sad because I really liked going there and was planning to go there for all my twins milestone, toddlers annual pictures, and annual family pictures, but unfortunately will not be going there anymore. read more

From start to finish this was an incredibly disappointing experience. We chose outdoor as we'd had a very good experience with it when visiting family in Tampa previously. Here on Long Island though the state park was rundown and drab. It cost us $10 to drive in and park which we were not made aware of until the day prior when we received a message with confirmation details. The day of, the photographer wasn't early as she indicated she would be and didn't actually walk up until 10 minutes late making me uneasy that something had gone wrong and my one son was also on a super tight schedule to get to work on time. Her personality was non existant and my other son doesn't have a go to smile so we rely on him being engaged or perhaps made to chuckle. Zero effort on her part to do anything other than tell us where to stand. Her whole persona reeked of could care less. After the session I wasn't expecting much. When the email came to view the gallery the instructions did not work. I actually found it circuitously by going in through a Shutterfly account. The one free digital image that comes with the session the tab wasn't there to order so that required a 20 minute plus phone call to resolve. 3 weeks later the image still wasn't delivered so another half hour on the phone and it finally was dropped in my inbox by a supervisor. Terrible Photos. Photographers may need training in actual photo taking. She took 1 shot of each set of people so if it didn't come back to bad. Hair messed up but didn't bother pointing it out just took the picture. When we got the pictures people were cut off and very poor printing quality. I did call corporate to see about reprints and they sent me reprints but when received they sent the wrong images. Waste of time and money. Will never go back nor recommend going to them read more

I got a call from someone there and she basically wanted me to reschedule because they didn't want to stay late. I mean, I get it. I worked retail many many years. Really bad experience. Inexperienced photographer who only took 10 total photos for the entire hour we were there. I have young kids (who were happy, laughing, playing) but she wouldn't take a photo until everyone was posed and smiling at the camera.... Then by the time she snapped the photo the kids were already looking away. She didn't even have the camera up to her eye ready to snap the photo until everyone was "ready". Needs some training on photography... especially that sometimes you just snap photos candidly with little kids and those will turn out the best. read more

Studio appt was great. (Made it the very first one) However, the rest of the process was a nightmare! *Was told I would have my digitals within 24-48 hours. It was 3 days when I finally called because I didn't have them. They do not give you phone numbers, sent an email from Lifetouch. How could I have know that? *Lifetouch & Shutterfly actually handles the photos. *Actual photos came in all bent - There is nothing on the inside of the folder to keep it from being bent. Like putting photos between cardboard or something. * Called to report with Lifetouch (they do not give phone number for contact so I had to google to find it) who transferred me to Prestige, who transferred me to JC Penney directly where I held AGAIN-First lady knew it was JC PENNY. read more

The poses were rushed, off center, and mediocre to say the least. I paid $160 for photos I could've done much better on my own Iphone. Honestly we had low expectations when we booked our outdoor session since the fee was only $25 . But Shawn blew up away. He is an Amazing photographer, great with kids. My husband and I are amateur photographers and we are so impressed. It is very tough to work with toddlers outdoors and he is amazing. The studio at JCP in Pierre Bossier Mall, Bossier City, LA, absolutely ruined the birthday photos of my 90 year old sister. They used a black background and positioned her Landscape rather than Portrait on a 16 X 20 canvass. She is a very small person and all that is obvious is a vast black expanse on both sides of her. They gave her only 2 options for the background. The session took 3 hours and when we reviewed the digitals, we voiced our concern that it looked as though her hair was cropped out on the top. We were assured repeatedly that in any size photo EXCEPT a 5X7, her hair would not be cropped. Did not make sense but you assume they are not lying. They were either lying or have never edited photos. They also said we could get any size for the special price of only $7. After making her choices, she was told that was an error and she would have to pay $20 each. She wanted to give these pictures to her children for Christmas but they are not usable. If put in a frame most of the top of her head is missing. I returned today to see if the digital photos could be repositioned and reprinted. I was told to take my business someplace else, that she didn't like my attitude. I'm 75 years old and only asked if I could buy some additional photos to make my sister happy. I was not loud or vulgar. Can't say the same for the woman who said it was her first day on the job. Should be her last day as well. I certainly will take my business to anyplace other than JCP. I should have read the reviews before booking the appointment. I see that I'm far from the only person who has not been happy with their poor photography skills and even worse customer service. read more

First off, JCPenney Photos is the fast food of the photography business: quick, basic and questionable quality service. Knowing that, I purchased a $30 Groupon for basic holiday pictures for my holiday cards. I just needed 2-3 poses and that was specifically detailed in the Groupon deal. Service speed was acceptable as it was a Friday night. Photographer was nice but half of the 12-15 poses didn't look good: blurry, off focus or awkward positions. I decided to go for only the 3 best ones in the bunch. Latina manager with attitude tried to sell me the $300-$400 package. It made no sense ordering a package with bad pictures. I decided to stick to the 3 poses from the Groupon deal. She said "not buying any package? Wow!" Loaded with sarcasm and passive-aggressiveness. I told her to give me the 3 digital poses and won't even want the printed copy in the deal. If she thinks doing business with Groupon is not worth her time, then don't take Groupons. The sad part is many people waiting also had Groupons. Honestly , not worth the $30 deal. You drive to the place, get bad pictures and horrible attitude. Moving forward, I will use my tripod and Bluetooth remote on my iPhone to take basic pictures. read more

we had wizardly way photos taken and it was not as advertised!!!! there was no "magic." no effects coming from crystal ball, no cute set, no wand magic. just the most basic photos we could of taken at home. the photographer was not good with the kids, she was rushed, put no love in them knowing how they would come out. we wore regular clothes under the cloaks and she didn't try to cover them up so it's pretty much regular clothes with a poorly set up background. she only took 10 pictures and rushed us out and tried to sell us on one picture for $60. 2 for $80 or the 10 for $170. will NOT be back read more

BEWARE OF SCAM! Booked an outdoor photo shoot. Photographer never showed up. Called JCPenney Pleasanton studio (the one that confirmed for outdoor appointment) several times. Waited 45min--next group of customers showed up but still no photographer. The Pleasanton studio never returned a call so I kept calling. When I finally reached a person, she said only their 800# can refund the sitting fee. I called the 800# and they kept me on hold and solicited a bunch of info before suddenly saying their system is down and can't help me. They said to call back in 30min. I asked for the manager and they just kept me on hold until I gave up. I called back over an hour later--same bs: asked a lot of questions before suddenly stating the system is down and to call back in 30min. Really? Hard to believe it's not a scam. We had an appointment at 11:15am. We were ready at 11:22. They said our 11:30 appointment is here so they gave it to the newborn taking photos. They gave these customers 23 minutes. They were out of there at 11:47am. Luckily they did have an 11:45 appointment otherwise they would have told me it's no on the 11:30 appointment it's on us even though they gave the 11:30 our time and their own 15 minutes plus another two minutes. The photographer argued how she doesn't take anything personally and surely wasn't going to be responsible for us not getting our photos. I understand we were late and willing to accept less photos. They don't give hoot under the guise that it's the busiest time of year. DONT give your time to the next appointment if you choose to come here. read more

IF we received our digital photos in a reasonable amount of time I would have given 5 stars however it's been 6 days. NOT only have we not received our photos that I paid $160, I can't get any help on finding out when I will get the photos. Lifetouch has no record of us getting photos (yet) and the JC Penny Studio doesn't answer the phone. I've left several messages. The only information I have been given is "the are internet issues, therefore they are experiencing delays". 6 days of internet issues? I would think a corporation of this size could figure out internet issues. They clearly didn't have internet issues when they swiped my card for payment. That worked in a snap!! Again, I'm only looking for digital downloads not actual prints. Personally I'm more angry about the lack of accountability and customer service. Can't get an answer. Sad because when we looked at the photos at the kiosk, the pictures were great. That said, next time I'll go elsewhere. Super disappointed. read more

We highly recommend Kia at Montgomery Mall. Kia was very professional, patient and friendly. She has a great attitude and she puts you in a good mood with her friendly manner, and she makes you want to smile for the camera. She was also great with our twins. She carefully and respectfully listened to what types of pictures we wanted, and she also made creative suggestions. She took some great family photos, and some great sibling photos and individual photos of our twins for us last year, and we are excited to see her again this year. read more

They take decent-looking family photos from the collection I see on their walls, but I went to JCPenny Portraits to receive Headshots since they advertised them. Unfortunately, I wasn't given direction on much (other than smile, sit straight, and turn) and they turned out to have no special qualities other than resolution since they used a DSLR Camera. On 6.13.22 my daughter and I arrived for our 2pm appt, when we arrived we were graciously greeted by Courtney! I truly can not say how happy we are with our photos, my daughter has special needs and the flash on the camera always affects her, makes her close her eyes and even squint, causing her to actually be scared of the flash, however Courtney captured such beautiful photos we are beyond happy, she checked all the boxes of professionalism. My family and I went to the studio in Taylor. It was disorganized and a lot of frustrated families were waiting for hours to get their photos taken. After managing through this aggravating experience and tolerating the frustrated overwhelmed staff, I wouldn't receive my pictures. It's been almost two weeks with endless calling and emailing. I finally received my digital pictures, but no copyright release. Again I have been reaching out to the Taylor studio and every customer service phone number and email, but nobody is capable of sending me the copyright release. It's not in my Shutterfly account either as they promised me. My family didn't receive Thanksgiving cards due to JCPenney staff's lack of support. I am still praying to get the release soon to at least send out Christmas cards. read more
