We stayed here because our usual place on our trip to take our daughter to college in Chicago was…read morebooked. It was a mistake. We checked in late and when we got to our assigned room the beds were unmade, coffee was on the counter, so the room had obviously not been cleaned. We went back down to get another room and the woman was apologetic. She then assigned us a room on the first floor which was not ideal but since there was only one person in duty and it was after 10:30, we just went with it. The floor had not been vacuumed and we could hear the people outside as if they were right outside our window. They weren't being loud so it didn't feel right to say anything. The bathroom was clean and we just needed a few hours sleep before getting back on the road. At 3:30 AM, there was a knock and then a woman opened the door. It made my daughter scream and my husband and I were yelling that we were in the room. There was no apology just an "ok, ok I'm leaving." as she left. My daughter and I didn't get back to sleep until after 5:00 AM and then had to be up at 6:30. I called the front desk to let them know it wasn't ok that someone came in our room at that hour. The voice of the woman on the phone was the same as the woman who came in our room but she just said would check with the other staff. She did apologize. My husband went to talk with her before we checked out to see what had happened, and she said it was a new girl they were training and she was "auditing the rooms to see if they needed cleaning." The whole thing didn't make sense and she told my husband she would discount the room. When we checked out the discount was not on the room so my husband let the new front desk person know that we were to get a discount but that still paying 120 a night was too much when we weren't able to sleep. The story that the new person told the manager was a different story than the one we were told but the manager did say the rate would be taken down to the lowest one they could give. As of the time we left, they couldn't get the system to work to give the discount but were told we would get an emailed receipt for the lower rate. I appreciate the manager taking our sleepless night seriously and hopefully there will be new protocols for entering rooms in the middle of the night and for ensuring the rooms are clean. Overall, staying in a room that has stuff all over the floor then being woken up by someone coming in the room and then getting several stories of others being blamed makes for a terrible experience. We won't put this one on our twice annual route to and from IL.

We were on a road-trip and we just needed to stop to sleep and shower. Hotel doesn't really look anything like the pictures. Our room was soooo dirty and outdated. Random little bugs everywhere, horribly stained carpet, gross furniture, bed. I didn't want to touch anything. The carpet had all sorts of weird stains like dark stains and white stains. Made me super grossed out. I understand that it's just by a raceway and that this is probably where those people go and it makes sense that it's run down but it is not what I expected from reviews online or from pictures. It was gross!! And I don't usually have many hotels that I find gross. Haven't stayed in a "gross" hotel in years so that's saying something.

We were ahead of schedule to end up in Illinois, so we booked an overnight stay here. We've been…read morestaying at truck stops and on BLM land, so this was a welcome change. The amenities astounded me! This is officially my first "glamping" experience! Full hookups, fishing pond, grassy, shaded dog park, 1 mile trail and 30 miles of adjacent trails, laundry, showers, and so much more. We reserved a site specifically with a patio that had chairs and a fire ring but realized that the sewage setup was encased in tall concrete and not ideal for our RV. They let us change sites and still use the patio, which was very generous as so few sites had them. We didn't do KOA earlier because we couldn't make the check-in windows of operating hours (office closes at 5 pm). However, the owner told us we can arrive at any time and there is an honor system to pay: we can leave our credit card info or pay in the morning. Unlike most other KOAs, this one doesn't have a gate code to get in. It rained and thundered while we were here, and it was beautiful. The ground is covered with rocks and grass, so paws and feet did not get muddy. Overall, I was so pleased with our stay that I downloaded the KOA app for the trip home. Pros: - full hookups - AC in shower room - super friendly - very dog-friendly - kid-friendly too: game room, outdoor toys, jump pad, swimming pool, basketball courts, playground etc - app for reservations - inexpensive (we paid 75$ on 7/23/25) vs a hotel for 3 adults and 2 big dogs - wifi - regularly mowed trail - camp store purchases can be charged to the site - large trash cans Cons: - a bit close to the highway, some noise - sites are very close together (separated by a strip of grass)

A friend of mine was with me and we unloaded half the truck ourselves while Bruce slowly worked back and forth. Worst part was the lack of care in handling items clearly marked FRAGILE. The small box with our wedding china was dropped by Bruce right in front of me and a few plates were pulverized. Bruce apologized and agreed to pay for plate replacements. That was over a month ago and Bruce and Mack's Movers have not answered my calls or texts. They collected every dime from the contract move (over $350) they only partially completed and now we have broken items and a no response or plan for getting this resolved. I would not recommend this company and don't understand how groups that work like this stay in business.

When asked about the ride, we were given two options between an older bus and a newer one. So we chose the newer one. When the driver arrived, before we took off, I asked if we could play Christmas music and the driver told me I could Bluetooth to the stereo which would have been perfect. We could not Bluetooth- the driver did not know how to do it, and couldn't add a device so we listened to the radio Christmas channel and all the ads and commercials. When I came time to look at lights, all of the windows were fogged over. The driver gave us a towel to wipe down our windows but as soon as you would wipe, they were covered in condensation again. There was one towel for all the windows- which after Wiping down the first two large windows, was soaked- and didn't do much for the rest of the windows on the bus. In 2.5 hours we made three stops to look at lights. We love the beaverdale area, but the driver only went down one street instead of both. The rest of the time we were driving the whole time on the interstate or down back roads through neighborhoods that did not have lights. We were very disappointed- we wanted to play fun songs to get the kids excited between stops, and expected more lights/stops. For the money spent (not at all cheap) we all walked away feeling very disappointed and looking for a different way to do this next year. I would never spend the money again with this company for the Christmas Lights Tour.

Luxxor was able to give me a decent price, and the driver Joe was excellent. He was early, had the car nice and pre-heated for me (an important thing to do on a cold Iowa morning!), offered to stop and get me coffee and got me to the airport with plenty of time to spare. The car was clean, well maintained and he had water waiting, as well. I appreciate the easy process to request the quote on line and the ability to accommodate such an early last minute pickup time.
