Okay, there are a few good things about this pub, but there were quite a lot of things that really don't want to make me come back again. The cool thing were all of the little alcoves where you and your friends could hide away from the rest of the crowd, and in a way it had the feeling of a pub that I would regularly visit back in Adelaide. However that aside, I really did not like the place. It took me ages to be served, all the while the bar staff were standing their chatting with each other (despite all of the other people standing at the bar waiting to be served as well). There is also this massive smokers cage right in the middle of the place, which sort of not only destroyed the space, but made it look really out of place. It seemed as if they wanted to appeal to the smokers, but put very little thought in how they were going to do that.

Having undergone a recent renovation, the Prahran is back open and ready for your business. As swanky as they've attempted to make the new fitout, it does fall short of other places such as Royal Saxon, Prince Alfred (which I can only assume they were trying to emulate). The menu is varied and unpretentious, zucchini fritters alongside classic pub favourites like burgers and parmas. The bartender on the Sunday we were there was a bit of a snob. Either one of those people who thinks that they can get away with being a dick and trade off their good looks, or perhaps he was terribly hungover from his own night out.

Saw the middling scores and ate here with a little trepidation. Needn't have worried. Had the swordfish on a bed of rice with scallops. New on the menu apparently. It was a wonderful dish. Very generous serves of swordfish (two fillets) and rice was lovely and seemingly well doused with seafood stock. About four other people at the table has the same dish and loved it as I did. Well done. Really good dining. Service was very good too. Our young blonde waitress was very efficient and friendly and quite the wag. On the basis of this dish and the good service, I would happily return.

It was rowdy, drunk people swearing and laughing way too loud. The service was good. The food was sadly average. I know the staff were doing the best they could on the night, but they really need to keep the loud drunk people separate from the diners and have the staff dress more professionally. Everyone at the table liked their meal, but didn't love it. Sadly, I wouldn't rush back here. But that's just me ...

I've been here so many times and I love the place - there's outdoor seating along Chapel St, there's a bar area inside which is good for a beer with mates and there's a more fancy restaurant space which has been spruced up recently. There's also an upstairs area too which is for functions but I didn't check that out. We were in for dinner and I fancied something light so just had a platter of dips which was lovely. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the falafel chips it's served with but no big deal. It was actually a generous portion and would definitely do for a main at dinner. I tried some of the chicken parma and it was lovely as well, nice and crispy. Staff are friendly and welcoming and there's even some familiar faces from when I used to live down the road 6+ years ago. So that's nice to see!

We ordered a Negroni, a Japanese whiskey (I was talking so much, I missed the name) and a cocktail called Dorian Gray. The Dorian Gray is described as "born from the grandfather of martinis, this is a smooth gin martini has a subtle English twist". Tanqueray, vermouth Rosso, tea, maraschino and bitters. The Negroni was absolutely superb. As good as I've had anywhere on the planet. The Japanese whiskey was well received as well. The Dorian Gray wasn't great though. A bit overdone with too much sweet cherry taste. Fantastic bar overall though. I'd come back anytime.

This place is delightful - from the beautiful monogramed menus, the classic tunes, crystal glasses - down to the resplendent bathrooms that are fitted out with trinkets, photos and a box of toiletries if you need to touch up your hair or make yourself smell pretty. I only had time to sample drinks - a Negroni and Southside that were finely made but head plenty of time to take in the scenery and appreciate the effort that has gone in to make this an experience of a bygone era at every level. Next time I will be back for the eats as the cheeses landing on the tables behind me looked incredible.
