Eye fillet with green pepper sauce
Danielle P.

Great alternative to meat and wine co. Went here last night after we tried to get a table at meat and wine co but they were full. Found this place online and had good reviews with a similar menu and lucky they had one table left for us when I called, it was full when we got there so book a table. The decor is quite quaint and the restaurant is very small and cosy with friendly staff. We had the eye fillet and the black Angus porterhouse, with chips and the fried onions. All were delicious, between 4 of us we had the garlic,BBQ, mushroom, black pepper and green pepper sauces all of them were amazing and decent size portions. The wine and espresso Martinis were also a winner, would definitely recommend this place for steak lovers

Review Highlights - Squires Loft

My favourite is the eye fillet, I always order the small one, because after half a kilo of ribs I don't really need it, but i can't say no.

Etes-vous un amoureux de la cuisine française? (Are you a lover of French cuisine?) Then look no…read morefurther than A La Bouffe. The staff at this tremendous French Bistro have managed to really capture the essence of French dining and cooking and made it all available to patrons on Toorak Road. Upon walking through the doors of A La Bouffe you are greeted by a large marble bar downstairs and private more intimate seating upstairs. The whole venue is very elegant and light making for a classy and relaxing atmosphere. I came to A La Bouffe for dinner and was thoroughly impressed; I ordered the Salade De Saumon Fume as entree. This was Smoked Salmon Salad with a Citrus and Dill dressing; very light, fragrant and not to mention tasty. For my main I decided on the Coq Au Vin - Boneless chicken marinated red wine, mushroom and bacon sauce with mash potatoes on the side. Terrific! Washed it all down with a very smooth glass of Shiraz, needless to say I slept like a baby after this meal. A La Bouffe is a perfect French dining experience right in the heart of South Yarra, perfect for lunch or dinner or even a cheeky glass of vins rouge.

For a…read morestart, it's in a great location on Toorak Road just off Chapel Street and you only have to take a short walk to get to all the shops, bars and Jam Factory. There's also parking at the Como across the street, which is pretty handy. Walking in, you can't help but feel drawn into this relaxing and intimate atmosphere. It's perfect for a date (well a very expensive date!) or to enjoy a beautiful dinner service with close friends. I loved it from the moment I walked past the front door. The bar is also a nice touch and it gives you the option of grabbing a seat and having a drink while waiting for your table if it's busy. The staff are amazing, the ones who looked after us were all French which contributed to the whole experience. They are really nice, welcoming and took time in running us through the menu as well as the wine list. Seriously, everything on the menu looks good. We had the escargot and terrine for entree and they were really nice. For the main, we went with the lobster ravioli et crevette and the coq au vin - wow! Just wow! We were quite full after that but, credit to us, we soldiered on and had the mousse au chocolat and creme brulee a la lavende - Oh mon dieu...... C'etait pas croyable! It was as orgasmic as you'd get..... We had such a great time and were the last ones to leave I think but they never pressured us to go and were very accomodating all the way. This place is a must-try! I will definitely return and I can't wait to go back. Make sure you book first - great places like this fill up pretty quickly.

A kingdom where meat is the monarch, Charcoal Grill On The Hill is a Melbourne Institution, and the…read morebest venue in the city for steak. Be warned, it isn't for the light hearted: cases of meat will catch your gaze as you enter, and make sure you order your steak rare or medium-rare (you may get some strange looks otherwise). Melbournians and visitors travel miles to sample some of the quality steak that Charcoal Grill On The Hill delivers. Call ahead and book a table to be sure that you'll get a seat. While the entrees and desserts are worthwhile, they pale into insignificance when compared to the main event: the steak. My advice would be to get a simply get a premium cut; the sizes vary from the modest (300g) to the enormous (900g). Add a bowl of coleslaw for the sweet flavour, and a serve of fries (because you need chips with steak after all) are the perfect accompaniments. Charcoal Grill On The Hill also boasts an impressive wine menu. The staff are extremely helpful when it comes to choosing the perfect bottle of red to go with your steak.

If you love steak - and I mean LOVE steak - this is one of two places in Melbourne that I (so far) insist you MUST go to. It's not cheap, but if it takes you a little while to save up to go here, you still won't regret it. This is an up market but minimalist restaurant. There is not fluff and decoration, it is all about the steak. The menu is short, and covers the essentials. When you order your steak (I had the scotch fillet) don't be afraid to order at least one degree rarer than you usually get (e.g. rare if you normally get medium-rare). When you're eating meat of this quality, all you'll notice is the flavour and the melt-in-your-mouth magic of perfectly cooked steak. While the steaks are served on a plain white plate, there is a minimalist salad and some fries brought out to the table to share. No, there isn't a large variety of sides available, however if that's what you are after there are plenty of other places you can go to, particularly the abundance of creative modern Australian restaurants. Grill on the Hill is for when you want to focus all your attention on steak. That slightly charred, flavourful outside and the meltingly tender, juicy meat on the inside. The restaurant itself is quite intimate with a simple white and (reddish) color scheme, it's quite small. Recommend for groups of 2 to 4 people. The wine list is also astounding, and there are some great cheeses on the dessert menu here too. On both counts be prepared to spend a bit, but the staff are incredibly helpful and happy to discuss the (constantly changing) wine and cheese list, and make recommendations if need be. If you are a regular, they will remember you and go out of their way to cater to your preferences.

The best way to get to the restaurant is by car and there are tons of street parking. You could take a tram if you don't have a car. Dinner reservation is a must. It is recommended to book a couple days before, and they do not take any walk-in once they are booked fully. I was debating between Eye Fillet (their Fillet Mignon without bacon-wrap) and Scotch Fillet (Rib Eye without T-bone), but decided to go with 220g (8oz) Eye Fillet. My steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as I ordered and the meat was very tnder. I ordered a side of garlic and truffle oil sauce and it went well with my steak. They do bring out horse radish and 3 different mustards free of charge. It was bit surprising Aussies use mustard for steak but it was very good. Every steak comes with thick cut chips (they mean fries) and was sooooo good! I loved them as much as I loved the steak. My husband's salmon was bid too bland but surely generous portioned with two huge jumbo shrimps. Their price is very reasonable for the quality and quantity. I would definitely come back here if I was in Melbourne again.
