Full bar and a great wine list with all wines from Australia. Wedge salad was not a traditional type. Heavy use of mint throws it off. Not what i expected. The filet was overcooked but was seasoned well. I prefer not to use a steak sauce when the flavor and meat is done right. But in this case, I used it all. Wonderful mushroom mustard sauce. We went for our Christmas mid day lunch will reservations made well in advance. I went for their signature beef wellington and my daughter the beef ribs. Her ribs were amazing and I wish I could say the same about the Signature Beef Wellington. First it is advertized that it will take 30 minutes to prepare which is very fair if they are actually preparing as they are being ordered which was not the case. Mine came over cooked (would say medium), dry and cold. When I mentioned I was not asked how I would like it prepared they said it had to be medium rare. Absolutely not true "Yes, you absolutely can prepare Beef Wellington rare, and it's the ideal way to serve it for a tender, juicy, pink center, achieved by pre-searing the beef well, chilling it thoroughly, and then baking at a high temperature until the pastry is golden and the internal temperature reaches around 110-115°F (43-46°C), followed by a crucial 10-minute rest for perfect carryover cooking". Hopefully this helps with future preparation since I have had and prepared it many times rare with absolute success. When I sent it back the manager came back with what he said was the rarest piece. within 5 minutes this further secured the fact that they were all prepared in advance and for a charge of $71 is insulting. Also, not only were the potatoes not warm but totally cold and when I asked for warm potatoes they returned again with cold potatoes. I asked those sitting beside me if that is how Australians eat their potatoes they responded definitely not! As for the pastry it was too thick and tasteless and was not eaten. It's probably one of my favourite restaurants since I've moved to Melbourne besides MoVida on 1 Hosier Street, which is a Spanish tapas bar- Gorgeous food btw. Anyways. Breslin is pretty awesome. Super friendly service. Really lovely vibe. And the FOOD is AMAZING. Perfect for a cute little date. Really big servings- definitely fills you up. Only have been there twice, but I love it. The staff are good and the venue has a good vibe (even on the quiet Thursday straight from work we were there). I asked for a rare steak but it came medium. The chips were a bit soggy for my liking but were described as cooked twice, so that's probably the style they are after. The onion rings should be left, as they are very average. Without a doubt the rocket, baby beet root and feta salad was the stand out to my main, delicious. I had an overpriced Marlborough Sav Blanc and a reasonable Bin 28 Shiraz. Wine list limited for my liking seeing as its a meat focused restaurant but maybe it works for the customer (maybe tourists for dinner and workers for lunch) base that have. read more

Very disappointing food quality. I eat out 98% of the time so I try to limit the number of times I splurge on fatty foods. I figured this was a good place to splurge as they looked like they specialize in meats. I wanted a variety, so I ordered the tuna tartare, meatballs and pork belly. The tuna tartare...flavorless. The wasabi was also weak and the sauce tasted watered down. Also taking away points because they were not upfront and honest if the tuna was farmed or line caught. For me, the more natural the better and prefer to stay away from farmed, artificial fish. The meatballs...flavorless. The meatballs were flavorless...the marinara sauce was flavorless and the cheese was flavorless as well. The pork belly...flavorless. I saved this for the end, expecting this would provide the strongest flavors. I'm the kind of person that likes pork 24/7, but this tasted watery. Like it had been frozen for ages and lost all signs of pork after being defrosted and cooked. This is the first time I've ever been disappointed by pork belly! This being a work function dinner I was not expecting as good of a meal, even for Southbank prices. However both the service and quality were on point. Happy hour specials until 7pm during the week. Your standard pub favourites like chicken parma, burgers and chips along with other dishes like osso busco, steaks, pork belly, and fresh seafood. We shared large cuts of calamari that were well seasoned. The spice paired with lemon aioli was a great start. I went with chicken Caesar salad which a lot of places don't get right. They did well with big cuts of lettuce, slivers of bacon, boiled eggs, croutons and just the right amount of dressing. Nice, juicy chicken with good flavour made this a filling meal. The table seemed happy with their selection. Although the steaks were probably closer to average than other fine dining establishments, it was still a solid meal. En route to the Pinot Palooza I thought it would be wise to fill my stomach so I would be fully prepared to take on all of the vintners at this very special and anticipated wine show. Walking down the Southbank Promenade, the epicurean emo and I decided to call into the Breslin Bar & Grill. It is the newest addition to the strip of restaurants and I was keen to see how yet another steakhouse would stack up against other anchors in the area like Pure South and the ethereal Meat & Wine Co. I was extremely hungry and I had a massive headache so unlike my other adventures to restaurants in the area, and in general, I wanted to operate on the "no dawdling" rule. We decided to sit inside because it was very windy and I really do not need to look at the murky Yarra River since I live in Southbank, I see it enough. We were offered to pick a table so we chose on away from the large group of people with the pram conveniently parked in the aisle and also the other family not far away where the child was climbing on the table with another pram parked in the aisle. This seems to be a very family friendly restaurant and also good for large groups of people considering the table configuration. Having pulled two pills out of my pocket, I immediately ordered a Fat Yak and the epicurean emo ordered a Bees Neez. Both beers were served in Peroni glasses though. I thought that was strange but I was most interested in getting the pills in me to get rid of my headache so I could be fighting fit for Pinot Palooza. After reviewing the menu, we both decided to try the pork belly with scallops and also share a meat plate. The restaurant smelled nice and that was the first sense that was piqued. A pig was spinning on the spit in the kitchen and it smelled lovely. It would seem if you bring in ten people, the whole table can enjoy the beast for $150 per person with matching wine. It wasn't long before the shared meat plate arrived. Steak, liver, chicken and sausages graced this board and you were given three different kinds of mustards to dress the meat with. I am still confused as to why just mustards are provided. I thought it was queer that this board would also arrive before the pork belly starters. We started to enjoy the meat, which I did particularly because I was ravenous. Whilst chewing on a piece of chicken, the pork belly and scallops were served. It was awkward timing. The dishes could not conveniently be placed on the table without adjusting the meat board by 90 degrees, which I took the liberty of doing. After tasting the liver, which left a metallic taste in my mouth, I decided to try my starters. The metallic taste of the liver was replaced by the poor taste of the scallop. It was cold on the inside and really the sort of food that I fear. I thought back to my previous trip to Sydney and the amazing scallops that I enjoyed at Jamie's Italian and compared these poor morsels to what I had at Jamie's and also at the Stokehouse. They were just that. Poor. The pork belly was average and nothing worth salivating over. It seemed the staff were not enjoying themselves. When I queried various people as to how their day was going, looks of indignation were given and the responses were not very positive. On arriving we were told to wait at the bar til our table was ready. It took no longer than 5 mins. Our waiter was very friendly. Our glasses of water was constantly topped up. Our starters were brought out very quickly as was our mains. But they were a little slower on bringing out the dessert menu. Three of the starters were quite a good serving with a small salad on the side, but the other two were just 2 skewers. No garnish nothing, which did not look much.. Main meal was small for the price and tasted average. Dessert was beautiful. And the coffee was made well. They were quite busy so you definately need to book. read more

Meal was not up to the potential. I wandered upon Breslin on the Southbank of the Yarra river amount dozens of simllar restaurants and bars. Since it was a chilly Monday night in August, I elected to sit inside. At 7PM, the restaurant was only lightly occupied, but it was Monday night so that didn't spook me too much. I started with an appetizer of "fried pork stuffed olives". The dish was just a little cooler than it should have been and the black olive taste overpowered any other flavors that might have been present. For my entree, I selected the "Barramundi wrapped in Spanish Jamon" which was listed as being accompanied by "slow cooked saffron baby vegetables". Apparently "slow cooked" is code for "languish in a steam table until all flavor and texture is gone". Like the starter, the entree was not quite as warm as it should have been. The Jamon taste was very subtle and the Barramundi was somewhat tasty,but the vegetables were inedible. The slightly cool starter and entree might have been the fault of a inattentive wait staff, but the vegetables and ho hum entree were not anywhere near the level I expected. Maybe I was just there on a bad night, but from what I saw, there are other, better restaurants nearby. read more
