The problem that I have this place is that it is just so popular. Okay, it isn't as bad when you come earlier in the week, but if you land up here on a Friday night you'll discovered that it is literally impossible to get a seat. However, being a rooftop bar does give it some character, though it isn't one of the best (and not just because of the crowds). A word of warning: there's loads of stairs to get up to the roof at loop. This isn't such a bad thing on the way up, indeed you'll convince yourself that you deserve a serve of their gooey croquettes after the trek, but on the way down you'll be cursing that last boozy iced tea you just had. With only space for 99 punters, get here early and score your favourite table or be prepared to put your name on the waitlist and venture down the road to Lily Blacks for a pre-drink drink. After reading lots about the new rooftop on the block I was eager to take advantage of some good weather to check it out. The crowd was a nice mix of everyone, I will be interested to see which crowd adopts this place, I will be there to join them. Cocktails! Cocktails for the people, I tried the Ginger Tomboy and Sonic Boom - delicious, at $19 you need to have your first one so the second one seems like a good idea. There was plenty of seating and standing room, we nabbed a table which also meant table service, win! They do food too, looked pretty tasty. Awesome, awesome tunes. It was like being at a houseparty when that guy, who's been around the world and experienced all the exciting everythings, pulls out his music machine and changes the party. It was his playlist. Loop rooftop is well prepared for Melbourne's inclement weather with retractable roof and some serious looking heaters, this place is your friend all-year-round. read more

It's easy for venues with great locations (like rooftops, waterside etc) to simply trade off their patrons love of the outdoors - but I'm pleased to report that I would happily visit Loop Roof even if it was in a basement instead of a glorious Melbourne rooftop. The spot takes full advantage of the weather, shielding from wind and with a backup cover for rain. On a sunny but not exceptionally hot day, it got very warm due to the lack of wind up there. Perfect. Enough about the roof, what about the drinks? The wine and beer list is fantastic and the cocktails are perfect. They have a range of 'hard' iced teas that are exceptional. Be warned though. They go down very easily as a refreshing ice tea does - down a couple of these bad boys and you might pay for it the next day (helloooo hangover). A BBQ was on offer for $10 a head, all you can eat. They use very large sausages and chops, so realistically for lunch you're probably not going to make the most of it unless you have a particularly large appetite (or want to give a sneaky bite or two to a buddy). Throw in table service on top of this and you've got yourself a great spot for a relaxing drink. I'll be back for sure...but maybe try to have about 4 less iced teas next time. read more

After ascending the many flights of stairs (no lift so not wheelchair friendly) from Meyers Place off the posh end of Bourke Street one is greeted with a cosy rooftop space replete with hanging plants and a nice view. It must get super busy here on the weekend as at the time of my visit (now) it's 4.30 on a Wednesday arvo and almost every table is occupied. Tap beers a bit limited but the Boatrocker IPA will suffice. Otherwise there's some decent craft beers in cans and stubbies, wines and cocktails. The food sounds ideal too; perfect to go with the drinks (the bacon and blue cheese croquettes sounding particularly tempting). All in all a nice a relaxing spot. read more

Having a large group this is the perfect place to kick back on a roof top bar with heaters and decent covers....that is after you make it up all those flights of stairs of course! With fun decor (think mini cactus plants and bobbles hanging from the ceiling), the service is great with someone constantly serving water and clearing empty glasses...all this to keep you drinking of course and not exhausted from alcohol dehydration. One of the best rooftop bars I've been to (full disclosure, being from San Francisco, we have about one rooftop bar since it's so cold year-round, but I've been a few in NYC and Melbourne). I came here on a Friday evening at 5:15 pm, and it was packed. If you want to get a seat, make sure you're here at 5 pm otherwise you'll be hawking over tables, waiting for people to leave. The drinks here were great - most of the mixed cocktails are $19, so expect to pay a decent amount of money here. My drink was really tasty though, I got one of the hard iced teas, which was really refreshing, and tasted great. Anything that is strong but doesn't taste like alcohol is always a win in my book. The long frozen ice cube with a lemon peel and violet was beautiful. I'd definitely come back here again - the drinks were delicious, and a great working professional crowd of twenty-somethings. If you aren't fit don't even attempt to climb the 5 stories. It's not worth it. Not much of a view once up. Friend loved their take on Whiskey Sour. Don't bother with Bloody Mary if you are a connoisseur. Loop's was a bit off, no spice, and ruined with massive sprig of rosemary and chunk of cucumber. I love a good Bloody Mary and rate accordingly. 3/5 read more

Food/drinks: They have a good range of tasty cocktails, the ones we tried went down a little too easily and tasted fresh and fruity. We ordered fries and loaded fries to snack on and the portions were a good size and far too much. Loaded fries had great toppings but a bit too loaded for the size of the bowl and I did struggle to eat some of them because of this which was a shame. Atmosphere: This place has a great atmosphere, fairly relaxed while still feeling upmarket enough to go for a special occasion. It's a decent sized space for a roof top bar and felt quite relaxed. Retractable covers to protect from the sun/rain and the mist spray are great and help keep it a comfortable environment whatever the weather. Service: The service was a big let down, waited ages to be served at the bar because despite there being 4 members of staff behind the bar apparently none of them could take my order - no apology or explanation either. The guy who eventually did take my order was really good, but he seemed like the only staff member who was bothered about being there. Would I go back: I would go back because the drinks were good and it's a nice space however if the service doesn't improve it's unlikely I'd make it a regular place to go. read more

My Sunday visit to the Loop Rooftop had: - Competent staff - Cold drinks (with frozen flower ice-cubes in the 'smacier' drinks) - Enjoyable music that's loud enough to hear, low enough for easy chatting. - $10 all you can eat snag & lamb chop BBQ for the meat lovers. - A sunny deck for sun lovers. Cocktails are $19, watering cans are $50, and tap beer is over $10 a pint. While my wallet might say no, the rest of me was quite content spending a couple of hours chatting with friends on Loop's comfortable rooftop. Loop's put some effort into creating a nice rooftop environment and some care into their cocktails. It's a recommended addition to the Melbourne rooftop bar repertoire. Or pretend you are spiderman and make a night of hopping between popular city rooftops. Madame Brussels can be viewed from Loop and Goldilocks is a few blocks down the road. read more

Loop Roof (or as I have re-named it, "The Anti Brussels") is a small-ish rooftop bar in a great location, with a kind of exotic feel that is bound to play well during summer. There's black astroturf, brightly-coloured wooden tables and chairs, lots of succulents, and some cheerful wall/sky decoration in the form of lap pool lane dividers. Yup, you read right; the coloured plastic buoy thingies strapped to wire, that you see in community pools. Sounds odd, looks great, and helps you spot the place from down below in Meyers Place. There is also an undercover deck area - on a sunny day it actually got pretty hot and airless in there, but in colder weather it would be delightful. Drinks were, IMO, pretty expensive, even for Melbourne - nothing fancy was ordered, just beers, wines and mineral waters, and I was wondering where my notes went. However I don't think that was the experience of everyone in my group, so maybe something went wrong with my order. Both times. Anyways. There's a nice wine list, and as some others have mentioned, some pretty festive-looking ice teas that would be worth trying.There's also a bar menu with some interesting interpretations of bar staples (toasty/croque with salami and salad), and an all-you-can eat BBQ for $10. This took the form of almost indecently large gourmet sausages, lamb chops, and some artisan condiments. Bring a crew up there on a sunny Sunday and you're set for a lazy, boozy afternoon. Loop roof is welcome addition that has helped take the the overflow from other local rooftops. Man we love a rooftop. Loop is an excellent choice catering for all weather and group sizes. Nice cocktail and beer choices - albeit on the more pricey size. My last visit they allegedly had food - there was a photo of my friend holding something edible. It felt like the staff are more occupied with serving their own specific tasks rather than service based bar work on occasion but apart from that it's your typical bar line. Upon arriving to Loop Roof with my merry drinking crew, we were overjoyed at the prospect of the space being limited to 99 people. We sat in the sun, grabbed a cold tap beer and had a great 45 minutes until it got to 99 people. It may not seem like a lot, but the space felt very crowded once it got to capacity and was not helped by the newer walk-ins eyeing off our table hungrily (also the noise). They also ran out of all tap beers after this and the staff informed some of our group more brusquely than others. The cocktails weren't too bad, however I think we had our hearts set on sinking a few cold pints and drinking in the lovely view, so we did leave shortly thereafter. Maybe this place is a little less hectic now that the weather is cooling down, however I'm not sure it's worth the gamble. read more

For someone who doesn't really do outdoors, I do like my rooftop bars. Yes, the irony is entertaining. One Friday afternoon a few work mates and I sauntered up three flights of stairs (yes, really - recommend you leave the Jimmy Choos at home) to have a few drinks and be merry. It's a nice spot in the city overlooking a number of skyscrapers and a great place to sit and chill, have a few drinks and also sample the tasty snacks on offer. It does get pretty pumping after 5pm, so recommend you get here early to nab a table as you'll also be able to get table service and people watch. I'm a huge cider fan and they had a decent range available. The peeps I went with drink pure alcohol straight, and they looked suitably glassy-eyed after a while so I am sure that's a good sign. They also do bar snacks, and I recommend the vegetairian croquettes and fries with aioli. The crowd is an eclectic mix - lots of hipsters, tweens in shorty shorts and a couple of suits. I think the place is still trying to find it's groove. It does get super hit quick, so leave the polyester ensemble at home. Only recently opened near spring street side of the city loop roof offers a nicely layout of a rooftop! A great bar and nice courtyard. Plenty of seating and great decor! And checking out there drinks menu they do alcoholic snow cones!! So amazing :-) and yes I had to get one! And it was a delight for the hot day Melbourne had! They also put on a BBQ where you could pay $10 for all you can eat!! Great foods! (Although had to mentioned to them that some of the bread had mould) apart from that the rest was delicious! Kitchy roof top bar that definitely sets itself apart from other RTBs. Starting w the decor: a small intimate garden-type area with strings of large orange and blue beads that makes you feel like you are in an abacus! The servers are attentive and helpful. The drinks are good but frankly I didnt experiment w their cocktails this round. My next visit i will take the chance! The only negative i have is the menu selection for nibbles being too sparse. Whilst the chili sweet potato fries and aoli were AWESOME (freshly cut and fried), it was essentially the only item my mate and i could share. next time (and there WILL be a next time) I will go there hungry to try the other items. read more

Pretty good, and a nice little addition to Melbourne's roof top bar scene. Its quite evident that this is becoming the direction and trend for new venues in Melbourne. They have a well stocked and sourced beverage list; that is of course when they are not running out of things, and a small but well crafted cocktail list. The rooftop itself can get quite hot however, and it may be difficult to escape the burning sun. Still, $10 on a Sunday buys you a limitless BBQ, and the best part is taking advantage of the snags on offer. Otherwise it proves great company with great drinks. It's about the same size as the goldilocks rooftop bar, one of the smaller options of rooftops around melbourne, but still clearly a winner. read more

This was a cozy little surprise tucked into the CBD. It was a Melbourne winter night, but the exposure to the outside world seemed minimal but the view was maximal....is that a word? Well, you get it. They have a good selection of wine and liquor. Somewhat limited on beer. On the night we went, they were doing some kind of complicated beer transfer so our first two choices were unavailable. I'm certain this is unusual. This is a great rooftop bar. Small and intimate and tucked away in Myers place this recent addition to melbourne's rooftop bar collection has been causing quite a stir for very good reason. Attention to detail has been taken with the layout and great decor. The have a great range of beverages for the thirsty patron including a wide range of craft beers exciting cocktail menu and alcoholic snow cones. Even if the weather isn't great loop have you covered, literally, with an automatic roof. The view from here isn't bad either and you can see the neighbouring rooftop bars. I really liked this place. The space itself is well appointed and there is a fair bit of seating (be forewarned though it fills quickly so get in early if you want a seat) I went on a sunday afternoon which just so happens to be the all you can eat bbq. They serve up gourmet sausages and other meats with all the trimmings you would expect at a sunday afternoon bbq with friends. There was a lot of people drinking what seemed like a bunch of flowers in a glass. Upon inspection I found that they were actually hard iced teas. I ordered one immediately. Who doesn't love a ice cold tea in the hot sun!? I was lucky enough to sample all but one of these marvelous beverages. The one that caught my eye (literally!!) was the sparkle motion. Vodka with lychee tea and an array of other citrus mixed with sparkles!! thats right sparkles!! it looks like a child has dropped their paint set in your cocktail! it was delicious, my other favourite would have been the Constant Gardener.. well because.. Loop Roof has this cute little atmosphere of a nice rooftop in Melbourne. You do have to ascend several flights of stairs and there was not an elevator in sight (maybe I missed it, but some flights of stairs are not that bad!). DRINKS: The beer choice is not as plentiful as I would have hoped, but some good options on beer and I became a fan of the Australian LazyYak. A beer will run you about $11, but pretty normal by Australian standards. This time no food for me, but by the time we got there at 9:00 or so, there were not that many food options left! Next time I'll definitely need to try some food! On this hour on a Wednesday, grabbing a seat closer to the window at admire some skyscrapers was easy. So definitely come on by for a nice place on CBD and soak in the rooftop views. read more

There's quite a lot of room, you can book ahead for groups, and there's plenty of heaters/partially undercover nooks if you're unsure about the weather holding up! Loof Roof is a cool/hip rooftop bar on the eastern fringes of the city centre. Walk past the surprisingly friendly bouncer lady and up +/-5 long non-descript flights of stairs and in you're in for a treat. I went there after dinner on a Friday night and the place was jumping with a late 20s, early 30s crowd. There are a dozen or small tables covering the black (yes black) astro-turf. The music is bumping but not overly loud that you can't hear your friends. The drinks are typical city-prices, which means expensive, and this is not the sort of place to try cutting-edge cocktails (both my manhattan and espresso martini were a bit meh), so keep it simple or get beer and relish in the fact you're high in the open sky. read more

Quite a small space, it tends to fill up quickly, even during the week. Good cocktail list and good craft beer list too. They have some inventive ideas when it comes to their cocktails -- put fresh flowers in ice cubes, and as the ice melts in your drink, the flower pops out. Simple, but innovative. Small space but has chairs and tables to eat bar snacks at and a cute fake garden type theme. Look across the skyscrapers to Madame Brussels to see the crowd there and if its worth walking back down the never ending steps to get your second drink there. They used to serve hipster nonsense cocktails in watering cans and terracotta pots but I think they stopped that- thank god! Good vibe mid to late 20s crowd. The Loop is tucked away in the top end of the city. I recommend searching this place out, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Although I was not drinking the staff were more than happy to talk me through their amazing selection of drinks, the differences and how they are made. Drinks are served in a variety of ways...
