This piece of art reminds you to buck up and have some big brass balls, to let it all hang out in the face of conformity. The gaze of the ape is distant, not caring what you think. Prague has some wonderful public art- this is some great stuff. Rub 'em for good luck.

The John Lennon Wall in Prague is such a cool spot to experience in person. The layers of art,…read moremessages, and stickers from fans all over the world make it feel alive--like it's constantly telling a new story every time you look at it. Reading everything people have left behind is honestly pretty moving. It's a must-see for any Lennon or Beatles fan visiting Prague. You can join a walking tour if you want the full history and background, or just wander through on your own and take it all in. Since it's on a public street, it's open 24/7, which makes it easy to fit into your trip. Definitely one of those places that sticks with you.

The old architecture is amazing, every angle makes for an awesome photo opportunity. Wander the main streets, but venture into the tiny side streets where you'll still find locals and non touristy shops and eateries. It is very touristy overall, but you can find some locals patronizing some of the businesses and restaurants such as Stridacka and U zlateho Tygra, and taking in live shows at the various theaters.

I was so excited to see these kinds of buildings after the same heavy stone brutalist architecture I'd been seeing day after day in other cities. The spires, and detail on the church and castles/buildings around were awe inspiring. It's most definitely worth the walk to come for a visit, a day, or a gander.

Yelp Review 2023 #106:…read more Not everything worth seeing is within our line of vision. I enjoy interesting things that you can find in unexpected places and spaces. This hanging statue of Sigmund Freud called "Man Hanging Out" by David Černý (the same artist that made Franz Kafka's Rotating Head). Find Svejk Restaurant and Pilsner Urquell on Husova and Betlemske Namesti and you're in the right spot. Now, look up! Story has it that when this statue was first unveiled, people actually thought it was a man in trouble dangling from a pole. What's the actual story behind this statue? Freud was of course a famous neurologist and the father of psychoanalysis - Czech Republic and Austria both claim him. Freud, who had oral cancer later in his life, was said to have died through assisted suicide by having his physician give him huge doses of morphine. After all, "the goal of all life is death" according to Freud. Another way to interpret this statue is how Freud describes the role of a psychoanalyst by using evenly-suspended attention (not focusing on what the client is saying but the the clients unconscious/subconscious ideas and affect). I'm not sure where I'm going with this but it made sense right before typing all this.

For me, I was in the tunnel from the airport to the spot closest to downtown. It would be nice if it went closer to the central district but hey, this is what it is. The Prague area is particularly hilly and mountainous. Having a relatively straight and level tunnel allows the traffic to move a whole lot faster. Finally approved for operation after several years in "probationary status" which was a political trickery to circumvent Czech law, it is completely free for drivers. Quite modern, it only opened to traffic in 2014 and is an important part of the Prague Ring Road transportation link. Four lanes of road traffic plus pedestrian and cycles. 34 meters wide, it is actually two separate structures that are joined by an expansion join. There are no pillars in the river to support the bridge, making it very different from all the other Prague bridges.
