The "Amerikas" - small and big (mala and velka) - are abandoned limestone quarries in Central Bohemia near to the small town of Morina. From Prague, you can get there by bus from the Zlicin metro station, or by train to Karlstejn Castle, and then just follow the marked signs/trails (a little Google maps doesn't hurt either lol). The Czechs are BIG on hiking in "the nature" so they have an amazing marked trail system throughout the land. It could be a little easy to go off path if you're not very familiar with the trail markings. Of course, you can drive as well. There is parking quite close to the entrance to the quarry. Ok so back to this Amerika - when you hike in, you are up top looking down at the water. There are no rails surrounding the top and I would imagine quite easy for someone to slide down the side if you're not paying attention. There is a trail that goes all along the top and around the entire lom. It is prohibited to climb down to the water (quite dangerous and you can be fined), but I have heard that occasionally it is opened for some sort of event for divers, either to get their certification or just a diving event. Either ways, it is a special event that must be booked. I'd have to do some more research on that one. ALTHOUGH, while we were there and my friends kept stressing to me that no one could go down to the water, we all saw ONE PERSON who risked it and was down there swimming (I think in the buff!, it was too far to tell lol). If you have the time, go for the views. It's Amazingly beautiful. I just wish there was a common, easy way to get to the bottom.

Our guide mentioned that many drunken ones make a fool of themselves by putting their heads inside the statue's hooded area....then trying to pull themselves out....with no ease......an experience that has had many police people come to the rescue more than once. There are similar statues in other parts of the world. But this one in Prague is part of many of the guided tours.

Here it is outside the opera house where Mozart first performed Don Giovanni in 1787. When asked about her inspiration for The Cloak of Conscience, Anna Chromy quoted Albert Einstein: "The most beautiful experience we can have is the mysterious. It is the fundamental emotion that stands at the cradle of true art and true science..." It is an interesting and mildly creepy sculpture. You'd like to see the face but there is no face and no body there. [Review 12239 overall, 2023 of 2019.]

He was one of a few Utraquist priests in Prague at the time and he was strongly influential, owing to his sermons which were noted both for their eloquence and their apocalyptic descriptions. On 30 July 1419, Želivsky led the Hussite procession through the streets of Prague, and past the New Town Hall. "The priest and his followers were, however, received with derision by the town-councillors, who appears at the windows, and stones were thrown at the procession. One of the stones struck Priest John [Želivsky]... and the infuriated people immediately attempted to storm the town hall." "This event ended in the First Defenestration of Prague, which was one of the major triggering events for the Hussite Wars. "For a time during the Second Anti-Hussite Crusade, he held almost ultimate authority over the lower classes in Prague. "After his defeat in the Battle of Brüx in 1421, Želivský was removed from command. On 9 March 1422, during the civil wars between the various Hussite factions, he was arrested by the town council of Prague and decapitated. If you're not familiar with the term "defenestration," it is when people are executed - they are thrown out high windows.
