    Midnight @ Prado Recreation
    Ben W.

I took my Black Lab/Pitbull mix here around 2010-2011. He was hit by a car in July of 2010. He fractured his pelvis in 4 places and had to have surgery. The best and number one way to rehab was swimming. I took him to Rosie's Dog Beach, which was great, but I wanted a more personal area to work with him on his rehab. Being from Kansas, we have a bunch of lakes and ponds where dogs can swim, so Prado's was exactly what I was looking for. It's been years since I went, but I think it was around $10 - $15 for an all day pass. There were multiple lakes/ponds to pick from. I saw one pond/lake where dogs were dock jumping/dock diving, but It wasn't crowed at all. Midnight (my dog) and myself were able to find a pond all to ourselves. The scenery was beautiful and we had a blast. I was living in North Hollywood at the time, but it was well worth the trip. Highly recommend this place, especially if you are rehabbing a dog from an injury, if your dog loves to swim, or if your dog needs to release some energy.

    One of the fields.

Sadly not the friendliest or most welcoming of places. Seems to have different rules and charges depending on personal feelings. I stopped going years ago because of how nasty the people running it were. Was ok when I went through this morning. They have increased their price. As with everything in CA. But when my friends tried to join me she was very rude to them. Tried to double charge them. As this was their first event, now sadly left. Only accept cash. Was coming back to gate to bring cash and sadly she continued to verbally insult them, so they left. Sadly first experience will be last.

Such a fun spot for the pups to play! Lots of open space and room to run. Make sure to choose your own spot and give room for others there!

Jax had a long history of worsening mobility problems, limping, weakness, pain, trouble standing, and documented masses. In 2024, a cytology sample from a mass came back limited/nondiagnostic, but I was never made to understand that this meant a serious tumor process had not actually been ruled out. Later, Jax underwent surgery for removal of masses, and I eventually learned there was "no way to know" what those masses actually were because definitive histopathology was never completed. Over time, the records continued documenting concerning findings including suspected neoplasia/mass, worsening hind limb weakness, enlarged lymph nodes, mobility decline, and progressive pain. In August 2025, abdominal and hind limb X-rays were performed while Jax was already struggling with worsening weakness and mobility decline. Looking back now, I seriously question whether the underlying tumor process was adequately recognized or escalated at that point. In November 2025, Jax became extremely sick and weak. A lot of the focus appeared directed toward suspected pancreatitis and diabetes management. After seeking a second opinion, another veterinarian documented severe pelvic limb weakness, muscle wasting, neurologic decline, and a large femoral mass. The veterinarian who later performed Jax's euthanasia documented massive tumor-related swelling involving his left pelvic limb and concern for neoplastic disease including possible nerve sheath tumor or sarcoma. What completely haunts me is how Jax died. During his final days, my dog was crying in pain, struggling to move, and suffering in ways I will never forget for the rest of my life. I had to make the devastating decision to euthanize him at home because his condition had progressed so severely that he could no longer walk without suffering. After another veterinarian questioned aspects of the treatment approach and documented the large mass findings, I've requested a refund and tried to get answers regarding how Jax's condition progressed to such a severe state. I never received meaningful clarification from Dr. Dunbar. I have since submitted a Veterinary Medical Board complaint along with supporting medical records, imaging, second-opinion evaluations, and euthanasia documentation for review. Please advocate hard for your pets, request copies of every diagnostic report, and seek second opinions early if something does not feel right.

We love that they provide cameras so we can check in on our fur baby. The staff keeps everything clean, changes the towels regularly, and makes sure she is comfortable and well cared for throughout her stay.
