Wild at Heart was exactly what I was hoping for. A proper punk/dive bar. It delivered in spades…read more The decor was perfect, messy, dark, a little dank. The peeps were friendly in their own way. Took a little bit of time but eventually they seemed to warm to me. One huge biker dude took a shine to me and kept joking with me all night in broken English. At the end of his night (which was quite early) he swooped in and gave me a kiss on the cheek and wished me a lovely vacation. The bathrooms were cleaner and nicer than the cobalt/funkys/astoria from my dives back home in Vancouver - seriously Vancouver, get your shit together - LITERALLY. Drink prices seemed super reasonable to me. But really anywhere in Europe they seem reasonable to me. Bartender didn't really know how to make a whiskey sour and what I ended up drinking wasn't that fantastic, but I think that's my fault, what the hell was I doing ordering a whiskey sour at this place? Beer seems to be the best bet. The place filled up quick and seemed very popular with the locals and tourists alike.

Grab a beer and enjoy great DJs, awesome bands and even a regular burlesque show! I had been told to go here by various people who had travelled there to perform with their bands and I'm glad I listened to their advice. The crowd were all great too, you felt really comfortable and among like-minded people. My favourite night in Berlin was the night I spent at Wild at Heart. GO. I urge you. One final tip - make sure to go next door and eat at Tiki Heart.

If you're looking for a rad place to knock back a few beers with friends and play a couple games of backgammon among other laid-back folk then you've found yourself a new home. Old-school Fhain keeping it real but beware, staff is selectively friendly. I.e. be cool to them and they'll be cool to you. Act like a w@nker and you'll get the same treatment in kind. Careful about your bags; if you go to see a show there don't be a victim and leave your backpack unattended. Nuff said. Taschendiebe aside, always always always worth a visit.

The door to the concert areal opens at about ten, but may vary. They have plenty of hallways, corners and steps to stride along after which you come into the first room, which is the bar kind of loungy area. All equipped with rather worn down sofas, quite trashy (Berlin style). Two small alleyways spit you onto the concert floor with the stage, where it usually gets loaded full and crammed. If you want it a bit quieter, make your way up the metal spiralstairs which lead to the bar and toilets. From here you also have a great view on the dancing crowd and on the stage. Grab a Club Mate vodka ! and let your eyes indulge in the artwork that has been scattered all over the place..paintings, statues..and the dj, which stands on a small platform only and uses digital equipment in his small cell to make the whole sound possible. The sound really can be anything, they have livebands ranging from jazz over hardcore to art-noise. Though they host ska bands mainly.Ocassionally they have a special Rattenbar called gayparty too, but anyone is welcome. Several times a year there is also a theatrefestival with a variety of artists showing what they can. Youll find yourself very likely in the position of seeing a band never thought could of existed before and then really liking them. Its alwayssmth special going on. Afterwards there are always Djs till real early in the mroning with all kinds of music styles(Drum n Bass, Jungle, Raggea,20s, Electro) Entrance fee is mostly 4EUR which is very cheap- the drinks are too. The people are very mixed, mostly 20to 40, but everything is possible. You know this feeling ofaaah why have guys like those have to hang out here I never had it when I was there, everyone is relaxed and there to have fun. One negative thing at times can be the toilets..but use the ones in the entrancebar and you should be fine. Oh and you can smoke..whatever In summer they have a campfire in the backyard.

As clubs in Berlin are wont to do, it closed down and the place remained empty for some time. Then, earlier this year (six weeks ago, to be exact), that same space reopened, only now it's known by Bi Nuu (and purportedly owned by the same folks over at Lido). Being that I live a few blocks away, my natural inclination is to love this venue, namely due to its proximity. But there are other positive aspects too. I don't know what the old club looked like, but the new one is quite lovely inside, although surprisingly small. The entrance is somewhat discrete (although easier to locate on a night when there's actually a show) but there is a lot of open space in the hallway between the door and the main room. The ceilings are high, there is a lot of "natural' light that can come through, and the acoustics are not bad. However, I've only seen solo artists on amplified acoustic guitars, so it will be interesting to compare the sound with a full live band. Also, for being in a train station and practically directly under the train tracks, one doesn't even hear the U-Bahn going overhead (although it's likely different when music is not playing). If you get an opportunity to see a show at Bi Nuu, I would urge you to check it out. The booker is consistently bringing in excellent acts and the venue itself is pretty legit.

There's an upstairs, apparently, but I didn't check it out... I just saw someone head up there after being grossed out by the floors in the toilet area. But srsly, who gets grossed out at the floors at a punk/metal venue? Isn't that part of the charm? *Lol lol lol* Also, ftr, this venue is NOT hard to find: It's literally under the metro! That's easier to find than a street number posted on a door at night! Wish I was there when the light was shining through the big window -- I saw some really great pics of that online; cool vibe!
