I was hoping a smaller "mom-n-pop" shop like this wouldn't rip me off as bad as a large dealership, but of course, I was wrong. When I first called, I was quoted $238.00 for a simple trans service (lift vehicle, drop pan and drain, and re-fill...very simple stuff). I requested a different brand fluid (Mobil 1 as opposed to the standard AC Delco), and it seemed like a hassle, which is ridiculous for a "transmission" repair shop. Total charge ended up being over $500.00 for something that probably took 30 minutes(?) to complete...I don't recommend these guys. If you can EVER do something yourself at home, just do it yourself. Don't ever feed the greed. read more

My warranty company sent me here. I was having issues with my car having harsh engagement when putting it into gear and when slowing to a stop. Once diagnosed the warranty company wanted me to take it to a dealership for transmission reprogramming but the shop owner told me I needed a new transmission and the warranty company just didn't want to pay for it and if I took it to a dealer for reprogramming I would be right back in a couple weeks. So I insisted the warranty company follow the shops suggestion and do the transmission work. They did and it took the shop 6 weeks. When picking up the car it was still doing the same thing and I had to take the car back in. At first I was told the transmission was fine and he did not have time to see what was wrong. He was not calling to make a claim with the warranty company. The warranty company called him and he would not speak to them to make a claim. It took me calling him several times and 3 weeks for him to make a claim with the warranty company. At that point he told the warranty company the new transmission had failed and needed replaced. However when the warranty adjuster and parts supplier tried contacting him multiple times he would not cooperate with them. He would not provide the information needed to get the parts or get the claim started to repair my vehicle. I had to file a complaint with the warranty company and get a resolution department involved. He still would not cooperate. I ended up after 8 weeks having to have the warranty company find another place to take my car to because he would not cooperate to get my car fixed. The new company had my car fixed within 2 weeks and it did NOT need another new transmission. It needed REPROGRAMMED just like the warranty suggested in the first place. Which by the way I asked him about doing and he said he did. Which he did not do he cause theres no charge for doing that on his receipt. When we went to remove the vehicle and tow it to the other location he was angry and was threatening to not release it. Saying I was going to get a bill because the warranty company would not pay for it and I would owe for his services. Which he did nothing at that point. The warranty company paid that day for whatever it was that he charged for and the car was towed away that day. Conclusion is that he is not honest and tries to get more work that is not necessary. He is rude and keeps your vehicle sitting for months. My vehicle was there twice for a total of 14 weeks with no repair. read more

When I drove my car there for the first time, the transmission slipped, but it was still working. After they checked, it failed totally(coincident). They told me $700 dollars to dis-mount and mount the transmissions and up to me what to chose next transmission, grand total $2000-$3000. Big lie. Once they worked on it, they found this wrong, that wrong,,,, ended $4000+. After I picked up the car, the transmission failed next day, again, I had to called AAA towing it back.They fixed a few days later. Then other problem hits One of the wrongs was the radiator. They said one year unlimited miles warranty. Two weeks later, the car got overheat easily. I went back with check-engine light off and no error codes. They said they would check. Next day, I was there, he said they the radiator was good, they disconnected the pipes and wires, checked the radiator thoroughly. He blamed the head gasket was bad, coolant leak into cylinder, the oil was milky, I should pay $1200 to repair it. Then he opened the hood, and extracted the oil stick, the oil was NOT milky, it's pitch black. I would NOT pay $1200 to repair it. And when I started the engine, check-engine was on, it would not start(again coincident? no!). He said he didn't to any thing to the car. I said you did, you disconnected things, you broke it. Then he said would fix it. I went back next day, he said he didn't have time to look at my car. The day after, he called me and blamed the head gasket was bad again. He proposed that I pay the parts $300, he pay the engine shop $200, grand total $500. I asked him that you can't replace head gasket in your shop, you have to pay other $200. He said yes, he has to get someone else to replace the gasket. He was in the car repair for 45 years, he reconditioned my transmission, but can't replace the head gasket. A friend of mine who is handy, and change his head gaskets in his garage. I don't think he was telling the truth, I rejected $500 replacing gasket. Here are the pattern, they did things, quoted low to lure you bring take your car to them. After their checking, your car will get worse, if you ask them why, they will say your car is old/high mileage,,,,. Later they would tell to they found more stuff to repair, ended up you pay a few times more originally quoted. I paid $3K for the car and $4K to repair it. He is in the business for long time, he should know it was not worthwhile to do repair like that. Instead he systematically took me in, step by step. He made $4K from me and didn't feel satisfied, and tried to get another $1.2K, no succeed, and tied $500, really greedy. Be aware of scam artists read more

I took my truck here for 6000 dollars worth of transmission work. When I arrived to pick up my truck up I noticed that it had been wrecked and damaged significantly. Both the owner and owners son denied it happened while there in there possession, both being extremely rude and unprofessional actually yelling at me when speaking to me. And refused to pay for the damage they had caused. I'll never do business with these people again. I would recommend nobody do business with these people. If you do, i suggest taking photos of your entire vehicle upon dropping it off in case this happens to you. read more

Had my car for three months got it back with the same issues plus some. Bolts and screws missing under the hood of my car. Asked them to do a 28 point inspection while they had it. Was told everything checked out fine. Picked up my car with no antifreeze or oil always thought fluid checks were part of that. But they weren't the ones to tell me it had no oil or antifreeze. Sunroof and CD faceplate was broken as well. Which neither of those had anything to do with fixing the transmission. Wouldn't recommend them to my worse enemy. Finally their communication skills are horrible. You'd never know anything unless you call them. My Lincoln LS had a hard shift but drove wonderfully everyday now it's done for. Had another mechanic tell me he wouldn't touch my car of fear that something would come back on him. STAY AWAY FROM POWERS TRANSMISSION. read more

I really like this place. Very friendly and helpful. I have taken vehicles there four times. Two times were just oil changes, but they also did a good job on a transmission repair and on AC repair. They give you repair options when possible. They aren't cheap, but they seem a little less expensive than other auto repair shops in the Southland area. read more

Took my car here to check out a transmission issue. They said the transmission was fine and told me about other repairs I needed to have done. ($1000 or so) I had just had a couple of the things they pointed out fixed elsewhere a month or so before, so I knew something was fishy. When I told them I was going to pick it up and not have them fix it, they tried to charge me a $50 appraisal fee. (The day before they told me it was free to have them appraise it) When I busted the guy on the phone, it was obvious he knew they were trying to scam me. Had a radiator replaced told I was getting a quality part. 3 months later I almost blew up my engine because a rubber plug blew out from the radiator. Was told that this was a radiator that could fit multiple trucks so in other words the cheapest thing they could put on the truck and still turn a good profit and of course was never told this. The fix was to replace the plug with a "better" clamp. So the 10 cent one should work better than the 5 cent one I guess. Seems like they just want to put a band aid on it until the year warranty runs out. read more

I have taken 2 vehicles to this place and a year later both of those repairs failed. One was a transmission and the other air conditioner. The transmission was a rebuild and it didn't last an entire year. The Schrader valve was replaced last summer and the first time I turned it on this year it wasn't blowing any cold air. This place is a scam that took advantage of my wife. She chose this place for an oil change and when I got home she showed me they charged her $200!!. Unbelievable. The highest any place ever charges for an oil change for this type of car is $80, even at the dealership. To make it worse, they waited until after the work was complete to tell her the price. When I called they said, "she should have asked". The guy ringing her up even said "that seems really high". You think? The owner got a message to call me and ignored it today, so here I am. I read all the reviews on here and can empathize with each and every one of them. We began our journey with this business 15-16 months ago and every 3-4 months we take it in for the SAME exact problem. Each time we are given an excuse as to why it isn't fixed. They have a new sign on the Nicholasville Rd shop that states "We can repair any problem (or something to that nature). We spent thousands of dollars the first time in hopes that the transmission/and or computer was indeed fixed. This is our only vehicle so for that to be out is quite the inconvenience especially when the vehicle is going back in for what should have been repaired back over a year ago. Now, mind you, we haven't had to repay the last 5-6 times we have had to take the car back in, but we have to pay for a rental each time and have had to miss work due to this issue. Each time we are approached with they are not quite sure what the issue is. We have met multiple people who have told us their similar stories with this place. 2 reputable business in Nicholasville recommended this place. I would definitely NOT!! I gave the owner a chance to prove his business, because the other guy who dealt with it is no longer at this location. In less than 2 weeks we had to have the car towed back to Powers. We do not have the thousands of dollars to pay another place to repair what they have. They have cause so much stress and we have spent so much money to rent vehicles since they keep the car for weeks at a time. We are going on 2 weeks now and still no car and it not repaired correctly. So, how can one trust this place when you've been scammed for the last 15-16 months??
