from Scott and Jan Collins I really hate to do this but I've got to call out Powers Transmission Co for horrible service...(I've been mega patient) I did not like the way they treated me when I took my car in for just a fluid change, they said it needed a rebuild. (debatable).... It took forever, & cost a small fortune.... Finally get it back & a few months later it starts this horrible whine. They have now had it over 5 WEEKS for warranty repair!!! Still nothing, They haven't called me once, I've called about once a week...Lame excuses every time. Anybody else dealt with this company???? Maybe contacting an attorney will help.... read more

I am absolutely thrilled with the work Powers did rebuilding my transmission. They did an excellent job. I love my car - a Mercedes GL 550; despite it being 12 years old it still looks like new. I spent two months shopping for a new to me car - and just couldn't bring myself to spend a lot of money for a vehicle that I didn't like or want. It had never occurred to me to fix the transmission, but I thought I would just try it. I am so pleased - my car drives like new - and I spent a mere fraction of what I would have on a new to me car... Yes, it took two weeks to rebuild the transmission - again at a fraction of the price to buy a new transmission or a new car. Quality work takes time, but it was well worth it. Referred to Powers Nicholasville by our usual mechanic as our older model truck had two transmission lines that no parts were available for and would need lines to be fabricated. I had to have it towed there so I contacted them to verify they could do the work and they verified that they could and welcomed us to have it brought there. It was towed there on Thursday and I called the next day to verify they received the key and was told they would "be able to get you an estimate by Monday afternoon". No call on Monday so I called and was told they had too many cars on the racks and it would be a couple more days. Waited until Wednesday and I called again to check status (JUST A STATUS ON THE ESTIMATE). I specifically said I wasn't trying to rush them but just would like to at least get an estimate so I know how I need to proceed. David was very short with me and stated they had a lot of cars on the racks and were waiting on parts for those and hoped to get it in a bay and have an estimate by the next day (Friday). I called late Friday afternoon (closer to closing) and was told that it still had not been looked at. David informed me they should have it looked at by "Monday at lunchtime" (keep in mind that Friday was 9 days after having it towed there and still not even looked at for an estimate). Monday (about 11:55am), my wife called them to check on the estimate and spoke to David while on speakerphone at the beauty shop waiting for her hair to be done. David yelled at her and said "I told your husband that it would be done by lunchtime". Those people in the beauty shop with her were APALLED at his tone and behavior!!! She told him that it was lunchtime and he told her "if you want to take it somewhere else, you can come and get it". She told him that we didn't want to take it somewhere else, we just wanted an estimate so we could decide on next steps". I decided we were done with waiting and being strung along by David and his team so we went to the shop at 4pm and asked for our keys and to speak with David. I clearly told David that his rude behavior and yelling at my wife was completely unacceptable!! He started to deny it and I let him know that numerous people overheard how he spoke to her as he was on speakerphone! He stated that they are struggling with supply chain due to Covid and that he has had cars up on racks for months waiting on parts and was helpless in that situation. I expressed to him that he should have been truthful with us in this situation versus stringing us along for a week and half! He said that they didn't have time to call customers to give them updates. I let him know that I would expressing my frustration about his poor business practices and aggressive behavior towards my wife to our usual mechanic who referred us to him as we have a long standing relationship with them. He informed me that "we have worked with them for a really long time and I don't think that your small issue or opinion will affect our business relationship with them" (I was shocked at his arrogance!!). I also told him that we were having it towed to another transmission shop where we had already checked and been told that they could have an estimate for us within 48 hours. He said "everyone in this area is having the same issues with parts and being busy - I seriously doubt that they can get it that quick and if they are not that busy, there is probably a reason why". While waiting on the truck to be towed away, David drove past my vehicle and apologized for "the situation" and stated that "everyone is just stressed out". He offered to perform some free oil changes in order to earn our business back. How is he going to do any free oil changes if he cannot even get our truck in there to give us an estimate??? I just said thank you and left it at that. I would NEVER take a vehicle back there for any service (free or not) due to his aggressive behavior and them being untruthful to us on numerous occasions. The truck was towed to CarMasters Lexington (close to Fayette Mall) that Monday evening and we received an estimate on Wednesday afternoon. Friday afternoon, THE WORK ON THE TRUCK WAS COMPLETED and we picked it up to take it home. Carmasters had SUPERB follow through and customer service and we were very pleased (even received a thank you letter and a 20% off coupon for future service a few weeks later. Again, I would NEVER take a vehicle back there for any service (free or not) due to David's aggressive behavior and them being untruthful to us on numerous occasions. In today's market, it's sometimes hard to find a business to TRUST. Had multiple problems with an old 1998 Lincoln Continental and needed someone to "diagnose" as well as "fix". Now it runs GREAT and price was fair. WELL DONE! read more

I had a transmission leak that two mechanics were either unwilling, or priced the work such that they didn't want to touch it. Jim (owner) and the rest of Powers listened to me, and then actually looked for the root causes of the leaks, fixing the issue for 1/3 of what the dealer had quoted. I have lived in many states and cities, and finding a mechanic of this size who isn't a corporate owned entitiy is hard. To find one that treats me honestly is even better. A two weeks later my speedometer transmitter on the transmission went out (14 year old car). They got me in right away, and demonstrated strong capability in the repair and diagnosis, as well as how they treated me. Finding a mechanic shop of this level that is also ethical, and about customer relationship building is few and far between, part of a dying breed. I will be back to Powers for all repairs while I live in the Lexington area. read more

I have been to a lot of shops who took advantage of me because I am a female, but not this place. They took care of me each and every time. I really appreciate this place of business and don't know what I would do without them. I'm so glad I finally found a place that is honest, generous and knows what they are doing! Personnel at front desk that helped my wife was rude (who apparently is the owner, but I can't confirm). He even made a comment about the size of her wedding ring, which made my wife very uncomfortable. The assessment on our car was that it needed a new transmission, and it would cost about $2K. We took to another shop to get a 2nd opinion, and the repair cost $90. I will NEVER recommend using this facility. If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more

Had a terrible noise coming from rear differential on a 2005 Suburban. Took it to a generalist shop who indicated they could replace it for around $2,400. They did recommend taking to a transmission-specific shop. Powers in Nicholasville diagnosed it and indicated it could be repaired. They did the work keeping the vehicle overnight and had it ready for a long trip the next day. Total cost around $1,300. read more

I went to powers not knowing who else to try they had my vehicle for 3-4 days when I got it back someone had backed into my door on the passengers side nobody told me I just happen to walk around vehicle, after they tried to fix themselves they had someone else fix and paint it, which was fine, just would have liked to know. I had my transmission rebuilt supposedly heat treated parts all the high end stuff nearly $2400.00. I put 19,000 miles on that transmission it went out and took it back hoping they would help me out since not many miles it was past the 18 month warranty, before confirming the total to do the repairs they called and said it would be $1800. I said I'm not paying that, he negotiated well it's 1400. I said I'm not paying that either, finally I paid them $1150. They put a year warranty on that, after 3 months, the truck did the same thing as when they rebuilt, on my way to take it back, it completely went out was smoking, they picked up said we will make it right, when told what they did, they replace some of clutches and some bushings and said it would be fine, which wasn't case when rebuilt 2nd time. I wish I never went. I have dealt with Jim and the owner David Powers and I believe I have been lied to and scammed. This is the one in Nicholasville on Highway 27. Avoid like the plague. read more
