I like this place a lot, the staff is very useful/knowledgeable. The people that lift here are very nice and helpful to newer lifters (from experience). It's a great environment for serious lifters at any level. Powerhouse has enough equipment provided for their parking lot, meaning that even with a full lot i can still get there and do what I gotta do. Easily the best gym I've ever been to. The employees and owners are the friendliest people I've ever met and really help make the experience the best it can be. The equipment is incredible and is all the best, whether it is new or old equipment every piece works like it's brand new. Everyone lifting there with you also helps push you to be the best you can be whilst making you feel at home. All and all, this is the greatest place I have been to and I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather work out. read more

Came here for a day because I was in town and had to train. The day pass cost me $20 for the 2 hours I was there. The facility is great. Apparently a lot of professional bodybuilders and powerlifters train here. You can tell that the people who work it here are focused and dedicated. They don't mess around. Equipment is solid. They had mostly everything I need in a gym: several power benches, a lot of squat racks, a lot of machines, round iron plates, and a whole MMA/Crossfit area. I just wish they had more rehab-focused things. They didn't have any bands, foam rollers, or PVC pipes. I had to use a broomstick to warm up. My only issue (and this is big) with this place was the fact that the front desk guy was outwardly disgruntled, shouting F bombs across the gym. I don't care how pissed you are that someone didn't put his plates away, and thats it's a Friday night, and just about time to go home. It's unacceptable to behave that way if you want to have happy people at your gym. read more

Even during COVID times, I can say this is a really amazing gym! There is a lot of equipment on site to fit your needs, whether you're a powerlifter, a body builder, or somebody that just enjoys working out (no specific equipment for oly lifters or strongman competitors, but that also isn't common in many gyms). Not only is there a lot of equipment, but it is spaced out very well! And the facilities still have that really cool old school vibe but also keep themselves modern and clean. Definitely one of the top gyms I've been to, up there with Warhouse Gym! read more

This gym has the potential to be hardcore but it should be called The 3 Rude Brothers gym The gym itself is practically in the middle of a crap hole where it's hard to even get parking during peak hours . The locker rooms are regular hardcore gangbang locker rooms which are good for a certain someone I get the whole 20 dollar pass but for what it's worth I'd rather get a lapdance by the trainer it's nothing special if you been to a hardcore gym then don't expect anything special read more

This gym is a Fantastic place to workout if you are truly focused on attaining a fitness goal. I recently moved back to Connecticut waaaaay too fat and outta shape. I started working out here to kick start my journey to my weight loss goal of losing 175 pounds. And although I don't look like your average bodybuilder or fitness athlete, I received a lot of support from the guys and gals that work out here. And the cool ass guys at the front desk Jerry and the guys.....They are awesome and always had an encouraging comment or two for me. In 1984 this family owned gym opened up the doors, this is a Powerhouse gym with 2 full rooms of hardcore equipment, imaginable piece of equipment for every body part, there are free weights, machines & dumbbells up to 200 pounds, plus a mezzanine filled with cardio equipment. Also on the main floor is a full-scale boxing gym. There is even posing room upstairs for competitors to craft their competition routines. The owners are fitness fanatics very encouraging to everyone starting out and encouraging their professional athletes (IFBB all divisions represented by athletes training there) and all of the amateur athletes in between. The locker rooms are adequate. There's even seating area, television, fridge & microwave to prepare your meals between your workouts. There is a positive motivating atmosphere in this gym. 4.5 stars- Montinari Brothers Powerhouse Gym is the best gym in CT for the results driven person. Firstly, the place is absolutely packed with weights and equipment. The floor has so many options that you are never waiting around to use weights or equipment, even when it is very busy..there is always something ready to keep you moving/lifting for the duration of your workout. Unlike your average large chain gym, Montanari Brothers has character in appearance and attitude. The owners are great and the atmosphere is definitely geared toward the fitness faithful. There are many fitness professionals, bodybuilders, and competitors that workout here. Much of the equipment is weathered/old-school (which might be surprising to someone walking in for the first time), but it is all functional, gives you a great workout, and adds to the gyms appeal. The only critique I can honestly say about the gym (in my opinion) is that the locker rooms could use some renovations but they are fine as is. Overall I would highly recommend this gym to the results oriented person who is serious about the time they spend in they gym. A great alternative to the large chain "fitness centers" in the area. read more

This is easily the worst gym I've been to. The equipment is solid but the staff is worse than subpar. I came here under the impression that this was a hardcore gym made for serious athletes, I was wrong. If you put a lift down any way but silently, you will aggressively approached, cussed out and asked to leave. They need to build a platform or invest in bumper plates to remedy this. I will not be spoken down to and will not let the owner put his hands on another small women after returning the clips to the front desk. If you can't allow your members to do the fundamental lifts because you're worried about the floor breaking and won't fix the situation with simple, cheap equipment then you shouldn't be held as the best hardcore gym in CT. In all of my years of powerlifting I've never come across a gym more snowflake-sensitive than this Gym. Hyperbole aside, planet fitness would have been a better choice than this Gym. If you're serious about your training, find another gym. read more
