Wayne and his mechanic Carlos dialed in the problems right away. Wayne noted that the fuel these days contains a lot of methanol so the carbs need to run a bit richer to compensate. Also, he pointed out that since the new engine had chrome moly pushrods instead of the stock aluminum ones, you need to set the valve clearance at zero instead of .004". Aluminum expands and contracts more due to temperature. Finally, the timing needed a slight adjustment from stock too. He also warned me the old rubber fuel lines may not be compatible with modern gas and to keep an eye on them and replace them if needed. Bottom line is she runs perfectly now so I'm happy. You can count on Wayne to know it all about old VWs but also, he knows how to keep them running in modern times too.

It cost $950…read more The thorough report came with a few red flags that seemed like easy enough maintenance jobs, so I went ahead and bought the car the next weekend. The very next day after purchasing the car, I got a check engine light for cylinder 5 misfire. While the report did check for misfires and didn't find any, they failed to inspect the spark plugs or ignition coils, which are the most likely culprits. The car also struggled to start, which could be related to faulty spark plugs/ignition coils. They did not note this either. I called them to ask what could be done, and they offered absolutely nothing. Not even a free diagnosis. This leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I will not be going back.

Luis was great help in going into depth about what the problem was. The same day I went to pick up the Mustang, it began to misfire. Nearly three years later, I received a letter from BMW extending the warranty for that exact issue. What followed was a long and pretty frustrating reimbursement process with BMW corporate. They kept asking for additional documentation and clarification from both me and the place that performed the repair. Even though I hadn't been back to Auto Werkstatt since the repair was done years ago, Kenny was kind enough to help me work through it. He pulled invoice copies, provided additional details, and sent information directly to BMW whenever they requested it. After many months of waiting, I finally received the reimbursement check, IN FULL.
