Really great poutines, was a lot of fun building them. Best I've tasted so far! (I haven't yet tried the best place I've heard of in Montreal yet though... I will be making the comparison soon!)
We ordered 3 different ones and I tried them all. Great toppings and sauces, I love their variations, even their zuchinni was good with it. Their philly steak pieces are actually really nice and tender, not tiny. I liked their fries, and got to try their crispy mashes potatos which didn't let the dish feel like a poutine but it was still savory and very comforting.
I got something that was more along the lines of a classic poutine with a kick. Fries, regular gravy sauce and cheese curds as a base, then I had a little fun with the topings and got the jaleeno peppers which were actually nice, spicy and crunchy, zhuchini slices which also brought a nice tender and crunchy element, brie cheese which I wouldn't mind ordering more next time, and I asked them to add their smoked meat ontop instead of below the gravy. I tried not overdoing it because each of their extra selections are not cheap, however the portion for small is very big. +2$ for a large I guess would be useful for sharring, but still wow, I guess it justifies their expensive toppings.
The other went more creative with his variations even got it "gratine''. Usually I hate completely melted cheeze on poutine as I find it ruins it, but it actually worked well with his because he got the potato specialty underneath, and the heat from everything kept the cheeze melted as we ate. That philly steak slices together with the potatoes and cheese... was so good. I couldn't say which one I preffered between his and mine, since mine really hit the spot for a more traditional poutine and his felt more like a hearty meal. Both were somewhere under 20$ each.
Neither of us liked the last poutine. She cheaped out on her selections and didn't pick much, was like an 8$ poutine. Melted zig zag orange nacho cheese ontop, fries, smoked meat, don't remember what else. Looked cool, tasted boring, no contrast in textures, felt all like mush, so I stook to my own plate. My mom wouldn't touch it for some reason though, we still didn't understand. I think this type of food just isn't for her, as she is very old school from the old world. She may have felt embarassed because she pigged out on the mini appetizers, and she always gets embarassed when dishes look big like the poutine. We don't know her very well, so just learning along the way.
Chicken wings were more on the overcooked side, but still edible and not too burnt. Burgers were both unapeasing, mine was forgotten but I was happy with that because it was already a lot of food. 1 burger was suppose to be a double patty but looked like just one patty sliced in half as they were really thin. Chicken burger also had a really thin meat patty and was overcooked. They didn't seem to care about the rest of their burger ingredients as the patties were supose to be the star. Told the owner only after we finished eating and he was upset, told us that we should have mentioned it at the time so they could remake the food, instead of eating it as it was. He seemed stressed. Sorry about that, my mom only wanted to tell you guys that for next time. I guess he was stressed because it was near closing time and must have been tired.
Combo platter tasted great. Loved the mac&cheese triangles and fried pickles the most. onion rings were fine. 3 mayo dipping sauces were nice, our fav is their extra 911 spicy sauce, could easily put that on everything, it's got a great kick to it.
Halloween decorations were cool, place was spacious, breathable, high ceilings, good parking. Waitress was polite. Hostess was busy with someone else infront, but made sure someone else attended us. Not sure if that sex shop near by is appropriate for kids to see, at least their windows are all hidden.
I didn't understand that their cheezecake was deep fried, I would have tried that. I tried 2 of their blond beers, and preffered their smooth ''cream ale" one, was really good and cheap, around 5$ each for a regular glass.
Waited a few months for them to finally open. I don't like going/parking downtown, so this is just great for us as we live right in the middle of here and fairview, so the distance is superb for driving, all highway ;) read more
