You may very well think if you've been in one Pound shop you've been in them all but if you think…read morethis then you are wrooooong my dear fellow. Some are of the chain variety (think that big ol'green beast Poundland) & others are of the 'Is this REALLY a Pound shop...I saw something for £5 over there?..' and then some, like Pound Shop (great name btw; simple yet to the point) are just a good old fashioned £1 shop where everything is actually just £1. This one nestles within the heaving bosom of Sauchiehall Street and I'm sure it's been a few different things before it found fame as the Pound Shop. It is of GOOD SIZE and is darn well stocked. As you enter they have delightful 'Are you SURE they're not real?!' faux flowers (what do you expect for a quid) and then onwards, depper & darker into the shop more household goodies arise. Toys of questionable origin (and safety) nuzzle against pet items (You want a toy gun for your child or a lead?) which then take place against food/cookery ware. Mmm...now I may mock (slightly) but only because I actually really like the gear in here. It's one of those shops you definitely enter looking for 1 single item and end up with your arms laden with plastic nonsense & kitchen craziness. Past visits we picked up some tres chic & funky 70's inspired glass mugs, some cup & spoon cooking measures, a creepy looking bearded Santa, colouring books, pens, gift tags & all matter of other lovely shiz. Especially at Christmas time this place is brilliant if, like me, you are a fan of the more 'Retro Christmas' or you just simply like cheap stuff. Also if you have any family of friends 'darn saaarrrf' or elsewhere that is not Scotland then this place has a rather jaunty line of Scottish themed tat, I mean souvenirs. A-hoy there lots of tartan & little cuddly Scottie dawgs! If you are looking for something in particular then give this place a whirl as you never know, they might have it in stock here and okay, the quality might not be AS good as somewhere else but you know it's only going to cost you one shiny gold nugget.

Was at stuck at work and I couldn't really use this as excuse for time off or could I've?! Hmm?! I did most of my Christmas shopping here, great prices for various well known labels. This store is much bigger than the Sauchiehall Street branch as it's on 3 levels so much more choice. There also used to be a branch in the St Enoch's Centre before the renovation. I was disappointed when it closed but I'm ok now since this Argyle Street branch has opened it's doors. Phew! It's still tidyish compared to the other store but then it's still new, it did get a bit messy at Christmas. Yes it's a store you have to spend time in to find what you looking for so with time on our hands my boyfriend and I headed on in. My best friend's just had a baby boy and I wanted to get something a bit different but useful. It was my man who suggested TK Maxx, so I thought why not. I liked his ploy of let's go straight into the lift at the door so you don't look at any ladies clothing. Hmm?! We headed to the 1st floor where there's crockery and bedding etc but at the back they have shoes, baby/children clothing and toys. We searched for sometime for that something when spookily we both picked up the same item and turned to each other. We'd found what we'd been looking for. It was a storgae box filled with a 13 piece set of clothing and accessories wrapped up as a beautiful gift with blue ribbons 'n' all. My friend absolutely loved it, so I'm absolutely delighted we popped in, good decision by my man. Thanks sweetie!

I was beginning to question whether they even existed, having searched high and low to no avail. Thank the lord, therefore, for B + M Bargains. You see, while I fully expected this shop to be a two star staple of cheap junk, B + M excels at providing those niggly items you can't find elsewhere. Cheap children's toys, cheap picture frames, cheap household items, you name it, they probably have it, albeit with a slightly altered brand name (e.g. Ultrapower Batteries). No sooner had I entered than I found a boxful of covers, even offering me a range of colours. Red, green, blue, black (which is what I opted for, if you're interested), for the grand total of 89p. But my tears dried the instant I entered B&M Bargains in Shawlands. From the outside it looked like a dump that sold a load of crap. Well it did sell a lot of crap but in amongst the crap was some genius stuff at ridiculously cheap prices. My boyfriend picked up a faux leather passport holder, something he had needed for ages, at the not to shabby price of 90p. A passport holder is exactly the sort of annoying thing you can't find anywhere. I found a great Bob the Builder kit for my toddler nephew which included a plastic saw, goggles, a name tag, a hammer and some nails for only £3.99. We saw some lovely cheap photo frames that would cost double the price in another shop. There was also a massive toiletries section with some great bargains. Annoyingly I live ages away from Shawlands but I will definitely be back.

When you walk in, you clearly get the vibe that this is a university student's frequent haunt. As we shopped here, students came in and out, receive a discount, and generally have their needs met with the types of clothing available. However, the selection of clothes in the store isn't so student oriented that a wider audience won't be able to find something of interest. The first floor is more women's oriented, with tartan featuring prominently. The second floor is men's, which had some decent selections of Fred Perrys and the like. When we were there, the store was staffed just by a couple girls on the first floor, and they were pretty deep in conversation with each other. Didn't bother us at all, but perhaps don't expect to have staff catering to your every need here. But if you just like to do your thing and browse through the racks, you should be well sorted.,

I spent good money (too much) on trousers that had an irreparable defect that I did not notice until I put them on at home. I understand this is a risk with 2nd hand clothing, and places don't accept returns etc, but I do draw the line at paying ~£30 for something I literally can't wear. I messaged their instagram page about it and expressed my disappointment that they weren't willing to reconcile this in any way (I said I felt this was poor customer service) and the message I received back was so cheeky I am honestly in disbelief. So here I am doing the only thing I can do since I've literally wasted my money.

I also think that there are at least two entrances and exits but there could easily be many more hidden away. Across the floors they have cosmetics and gifts, men and women's fashion and homewear, as well as a cafe, services for weddings, bra fittings and alterations, a travel money centre, a Clarins skin spa and, most importantly to me, a personal shopper service. This is why I go to Debenhams. I'm not good at shopping but they have a free personal shopping service. The personal shoppers aren't on comission, so there's no pressure to buy. You just tell them what you're shopping for (for example a general wardrobe update or a special occasion), and your sizes and colour preferences. They make you a cup of coffee and then wander out into the store to find things for you to try. You try them in your own private changing room and, if you decide you do want to buy something at the end of your session then you skip the queue when you go to pay for it. Sure, the rest is good too (except when you get lost) but this service alone makes Debenhams worth a visit for me.

That being said, I actually really enjoyed having a relaxed wander around Debenhams this week. They were having an exclusive shopping night on Monday so the store was a lot quieter than it would normally be (and they were dishing out the complimentary fizz which is always nice). I think this store must have been done up a bit since last time I visited as it was a lot brighter and more slick than I remember. The beauty and perfume areas are particularly lovely. Some areas of the store seemed understocked or had less of a range than I'd expect - in children's toys there wasn't loads for kids under 1, and there was only one shelf of thick winter tights. On the other hand, there was a massive area for Baker by Ted Baker (kids clothing range) and loads of sheer tights. I'm not quite sure for the reasons behind these decisions, but just keep in mind that you might not be able to find everything you want here. Staff were happy and friendly, even while being subjected to hours of Christmas music. We did nearly get overcharged in one transaction but that's because their sale didn't technically start until the next day, and the sales assistant happily fixed it up without any fuss. Tip: With the 5p bag charge it might be worthwhile asking for their largest bag if you're buying a few items, rather than getting multiple smaller bags. Or bring your own!
