Her recipes are prepared beforehand based on your tastes and are really healthy, delicious, and easy to prepare. I felt like I was on a cooking show. Her kitchen is professional and well-stocked with tools. She is a great conversationalist and keeps the session moving at the right pace, based on the meals you are preparing. The class was not only educational, it was a lot of fun, and definitely a great reprieve from my typical Sunday afternoons spent studying in front of a computer. Jenna did a great job of overseeing the prepping and cooking of the four dishes we had on the menu for the night. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to manage a kitchen full of amateur chefs (half of whom rarely cook at home)...but somehow she managed to do it with grace! Jenna was extremely patient with and open to all of our questions as well. In particular, I thought she did a great job of incorporating the 'why' behind her answers to questions like: What ingredients do you always have on hand? How do you know which spices go well together? What goes into a vegetable stock? I really appreciated how Jenna tailored the class specifically for a group of grad students, focusing on: increasing the nutritional value of our meals, saving time in the kitchen, and all the while cutting down on costs. Three things that I know I DEFINITELY need to do more of! I walked away from the class with an arsenal of new cooking tips, a full belly (plus a few containers of leftovers), and a packet of recipes from the class. Three hours very, very well spent! Yes, a lot of what I do entails teaching people foods to eat for optimal health, but the actual preparation of the food is a big part of that too. I came to the Zwilling Cooking Studio on behalf of my job, to enhance my cutting skills by taking their "Basic Knife Skills" class. Firstly, the Zwilling Cooking studio is modern and beautiful! There is also plenty of parking. I did not know what I was getting into when I signed up for the course. I didn't even know who Zwilling was before this, so it was a great experience. Upon entering, I was immediately greeted by the instructor (unfortunately, I forget his name) and assigned to a "station". It was a small class, probably 12-13 people. We worked in groups of 3 on kitchen islands that were set up with a cutting board, a variety of knives, and some food to practice with. The kitchen itself is bright, modern, and spacious. In addition, the placement of the stations allowed for easy viewing of the instructor. Spacing between the kitchen islands and group members felt a little tight at times, but nothing extremely uncomfortable. During the course, we discussed the companies history, the different types of knives on the market, appropriate uses for different types of knives, and how to maintain your knives. We also received some hands-on experience with knife techniques. Among my most favorite, I learned how to properly hold a knife, how to skin a tomato as well as an orange, and how to prepare parsley. At the end, we prepped a small bag of veggies that we were able to take home and use. In terms of service, the instructor was amazing! Very patient and communicative. Throughout the class, he walked around and observed our techniques, then provided feedback accordingly. He also provided a lot of professional insight from his time as a chef, that really put things into perspective. After the class, we had a chance to shop in their store and were offered a discount on regular priced merchandise. They have a great selection of items including an impressive clearance section. I ended up purchasing a steak knife and paring knife at a steal. The only thing I would change about this experience is the communication regarding registration. You can easily sign up using their online portal however, once you sign up, you don't hear anything back. It would be nice to know who the instructor is and perhaps some information on what to wear or rules in the kitchen, in advance. A reminder or confirmation a few days prior would be courteous as well. Perhaps they do this and I did not see anything (?). Not a big deal but a helpful suggestion indeed. Overall, it was a good experience. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking to build their culinary skills, whether professionally or personally. Zwilling offers actual cooking classes, which I think would be more ideal for couples, friends, or families wanting an authentic culinary experience. I will return for one of those, but in the interim I highly recommend visiting.

Julia had a beautifully curated meal planned for us, Italian themed called Italian Comfort Food. When we arrived, there was a delicious white bean dip with crackers and carrots. The dip was light and lemony and described as easy to make using a food processor. The group of 19 moved to an antipasto station where we created skewers with varying cheeses, meats, vegetables, peppers, and my favorite, the caper wrapped anchovy! Everyone took part in making the skewers and plating them, which is fun. Then each person chose a card that stated what station we would go to. My husband and I chose the meat lasagna. Other stations were a chicken lasagna, asparagus and arugula salad, garlic bread and homemade hazelnut ice cream. While at our meat lasagna station, we learned how to make the meat, a mixture of sausage and beef, the homemade lasagna noodles, the béchamel sauce. We layered the noodles, meat, cheese, ricotta and did it again. After 40 minutes, it came out oozing with deliciousness! I thought that nothing could taste better until I tried the chicken lasagna with white sauce. Omg! Incredible! I'm a "cook for survival" type of gal and I came out learning a few cool tips- like, to make the best garlic bread, wet the outside of the bread before putting it in the oven! The crust comes out with a bit of crackle but the inside is buttery, garlicky, soft! I don't see the process of making the ice cream, but I did get to enjoy it and boy did I! Chocolate, nutty, rich and creamy! My favorite dish of all though, was the asparagus salad- arugula and sliced almond with a wonderfully delicious dressing to top it off. It is easy, refreshing, light and could be a meal in itself. And as Julia said, "not every salad needs cheese," but if you must.... I would love some goat cheese on top. The best part of the evening, besides the 5* food, was the company!
