Love the simple white building with an a-frame roof and easy accessible ramps leading up to the porch! Inside is a bay window lined with local newspapers with an "honor code" pay system, a basket of books, and brochures. On the other side, the bay window is full of pretty green plants! So cozy! It's well stocked and super clean. I love the wood accents, the touches of wrought iron, brass, and vintage post office mailboxes. There's a bulletin board with local news and events. The grounds are well maintained and I even mailed a card here, as I love mailing letters with various VA postmarks! There was a donation box for the Boy Scouts of America on a desk, and there were ample shipping supplies for a post office of this size. The hours are 12:30-4:30 M-F and 9:30-12:30 Saturday. The name Warsaw was named after in 1830 in support of Poland due to the uprising. Now a quaint town in the northern neck, its post office is aptly named. Usually, I'm scared out of my "bridges" when I approach a bridge, whether I driving or a passenger, but this bridge gave me courage to "get over it". Although this is a steel stringer, narrow bridge with no shoulder, it's not too long nor too steep. It's just over a mile long, connecting Tappahannock and Warsaw. The water views across the bridge are quite pretty, especially nearing sunset. Cross the water, you'll see flocks of water birds resting on rustic pylons...they ap-"pier" to be herons, cranes, seagulls, and ospreys. If you pull over underneath the bridge by the Tappahannock side, you won't "egret" it. Weeping willows align the small field with a picnic area and there's a historic marker, a plaque and map describing the history of this part of the Rappahannock River. You can park and climb the rocks or even cast a line for fish. The Warsaw side of the bridge isn't quite so scenic. This bridge was named after a state senator, Thomas J Downing, who lived from 1867-1927. The bridge was constructed originally in 1927 which was a welcome change from the ferries that used to usher people across the River. Then in 1963, it was modernized to the bridge seen today carrying thousands of vehicles per day. As of an inspection in 2017, this bridge was deemed in poor-fair condition but needed some upkeep. Let's give this bridge some support!

It spans over the Rappohannock River, connecting the small town of Tappohannock to the even smaller town of Warsaw. Way back in the day, when we were invincible and clueless, aka, high schoolers, I had friends who seized that dubious double dog dare ya and went plunging into the river below. At night. All survived, but I would never recommend such folly. I know people who have bridge phobias. In my unprofessional opinion, I would rate this drive over as a level 4 on the anxiety scale (based on 1-10). Maybe a 5.8 if you are riding a motorcycle. * . If you are crossing over from the Tappahannock side, look to the tips of the barren trees on the right as you reach the end. You might catch sight of a Red Tail or an Eagle! Well, I guess they're pretty laid back in the neck of the woods! There is nothing here but a museum and a post office in this historic fishing village. The post office is adorable and looks over the river. If the postmaster was more receptive and professional, this would have been 4 stars all the way!

So…read moreafter our trip to Tangier Island, we drove around this quaint and quiet fishing town to get a glimpse of the lifestyle here. It's a laid back town with a relaxed vibe. It has a rich history as well as an area dubbed Millionaire's Row which is lined with gorgeous Victorian mansions. The architecture is amazing and on our ferry tour, we learned of the painstaking building work that built this once thriving town. It's still a great place to visit with it's boating, sport fishing, B&Bs, wineries and museum. There are a few restaurants on the water, a cute ice cream shop on Main Street almost where the road meets the "rivah"! If you're in the Northern Neck, make this a pit stop and take a look around this charming town!

Just a load of, well, nonsense? According to the men who built it back in the 1790s it was, but…read moretoday, it's a nice walk in the park when the sun is shining - a far cry from what it was actually built for, right? This fortified hilltop was built in 1777 by George Washington's Army, mainly to function as an observation and alarm post watching over Morristown and surrounding areas, it also doubled as a place of retreat for guards stationed in the town. The British never made an attack on Morristown... but it's 2018 and here I am - oh my gosh, i'm just kidding!!! The park is well kept, there's a great place to sit and have a bite to eat (just bring some food with you) and I should probably mention to watch out for the mozzies (mosquitos...) - oh they'll getcha good out here!
