The best meal I had in Puerto Rico, and also one of the best meals I've had in general. Located inside The Ritz-Carlton, Positivo is an upscale sushi spot that also has a vegetarian menu -- a rare find, and much appreciated as a seafood lover dining with a bunch of vegetarians. The ambiance here is high end and stunning, situated right on the water near the incredible pool. I kicked things off with a miso margarita which was everything I wanted it to be. I had the scallop crudo which was absolute perfection -- fresh and perfectly balanced. I had the Negi-Toro and San Francisco rolls as my mains, which were so unique, rich and fatty the way I like my sushi. We each had a mochi ice cream for dessert - I had the black sesame which was outstanding. Service here was also top notch, attentive and high end. I eat at Positivo Sand Bar often, and it's always a great experience. The setting is hard to beat, right on the sand with ocean views all around. Just a heads-up to wear flip-flops or shoes that are easy to walk in on sand. The food is consistently excellent. My woman is a big fan of the sushi and the passion fruit margarita. I usually go for the Thai-inspired dishes. The sweet basil steak appetizer is flavorful and tender, and the noodles are always solid. The black cod, though, is on another level. It's buttery, perfectly cooked, and truly world-class. The papaya salad is fresh and well-balanced. The staff is always helpful and happy to guide you through options. Had a great time here - service and ambience is wonderful! We ordered the coconut milk soup, dan dan noodles with chicken, and green chicken curry (comes with rice). Soup was mid, a little salty for my taste. Dan dan noodles were delicious, and appreciate the accommodation to swap beef and pork for chicken. Green chicken curry was a miss for both of us, it was very creamy and lacked flavor. We were given these tiny sour lemon treats at the end which we loved. The open-air ambiance and sand floors set a perfect scene, all elevated by the Atlantic sunset. We shared dishes, starting with the Wagyu Yakisoba and Nasi Goreng. Both are generous in portion and perfect for sharing. The Yakisoba's tender steak marinated in sesame, tamarind, and Chipotle is a must-try, and the Nasi Goreng offers a burst of complex, spicy flavors. We also indulged in the Mizuchi sushi roll, layered over Alaskan King Crab. The flavor pairing is sublime--the sweetness of the crab complements the charred spring onion, garlic aioli, and egg yolk, creating a sensational burst of flavors. What an experience!! My parents belong to the resort here and I had a wonderful time trying all the food. Positivo in particular had unparalleled service, food, and scenery! Stationed right on the sand, we were able to watch the sunset while dining on some of the freshest Asian fusion I've had! We had the Thai chicken curry, San Francisco roll, Alaskan crab roll, Yasai roll, black cod, octopus, garlic pak choy, crispy sticky rice, and wagyu wok noodles. They gave us free gyoza at the beginning and chocolate at the end! My bf has a dairy allergy and they were so accommodating with everything. The lighting at night time is a bit too dim to see the food you are eating but the staff are really nice and it's truly an amazing dining experience! Got to the resort late and was happy they could move our reservation, turned into a great way to start the holiday. The Nom Tak salad was great, multiple layers of flavor. Both tuna crude were also very tasty and interesting, in a good way. I really enjoyed the pork belly and broccolini wok dish, the pork was just the right amount of fat and very flavorful. The miso cod was also great. Not sure what I thought of the wagyu, it had a lot of flavour but probably the one thing I would not order again. Stopped by for lunch while we waited for our room to be ready. We sat in the deck overlooking the ocean, such a beautiful view. We both ordered the Hokkien Mee, noodle bowl with squid, shrimps and pork belly in a brown sauce, so good. I ate at the somewhat-secret Omakase bar (seating for up to 6; my friend (who lives in Dorado Beach East) and I were the only guests today). Amazing experience, comparable to the best omakase in New York or Japan, and truly amazing to find in Puerto Rico. The chef was from Japan (Kyoto) and had deep expertise and interest in fish and sushi. Everything was perfect -- obviously at this price level you expect perfect execution, but it was also excellent selection of what to serve. The dining experience with just the two of us and the chef (as well as a waitress who kept us well supplied with drinks) was special, and this is probably the best meal I've had in Puerto Rico in 6 years of living here. The main restaurant looked nice as well -- right on the beach, at a luxury resort, with room for various sized parties -- and if the food is anywhere near as good as at the omakase bar, probably the best option at the resort. From what I've heard wine is a bit overpriced, so it's better (if you live here) to just pay corkage and bring a bottle from home on your golf cart, but if you're on holiday that's probably not an option. read more

Great dirty martini and the decor is nice. Can't beat the table in the sand kind of thing. However, much as we ALL love Asian inflected food, there was one too many ingredients in all the dishes. The parts were greater than the sum - need editing... It was even hard to find crowd pleasers for the tweens, which is usually easy in an pan Asian fusion restaurant - no standard dumplings, bao buns, and the noodle dishes were far too fussy each with an ingredient or two that could be off putting to a more medium palate diner. To be fair, our child liked the CA rolls from the kids menu, and we did not try the to order sushi or sashimi which may well have been righteous. With regard to the Omakase bar geography - we were tempted to give it a.go, but once we saw the location thought it needs to be reworked to better face the ocean. It is facing an attractive, well, "wall" in an otherwise open restaurant. I understand the chef and preparation is the focus, but still has a bit of an exile vibe. Maybe in the winter when the place is full it feels sexy and exclusive, but in the height of July in a near empty restaurant (low season) just felt like you are missing out on a beach view. The restaurant was also sweltering - needs overhead fans. We saw some, but they weren't on..nor were the nearby stately pool tiki torches which would have given a more majestic thrill. Positivo was a miss for us, and we felt much more satisfied at nearby Encanto - with a well rounded menu for all. Of note - the pool pulls lunch offerings from the restaurant. We had a very nice dinner with a group of 8 people. We started with some appetizers and a sake tasting. The sake was so amazing! I didn't think I liked sake because it usually burns my throat, but I guess now that I have experienced a better quality my attitude has changed. The sparkling that tasted like champagne was my favorite! We all shared a few appetizers, crab bao buns, edamame, duck and some sushi. Everything was amazing. Though I am not - their California Rolls are amazing, with an incredible array of choices. Their lunch menu offered salads, fish, meat, desserts. The restaurant is inside the Ritz Carlton hotel. We were staying down the road at the Hacienda Del Mar. We were not able to get a reservation but asked at the front gate if there was seating for two. We got a seat at the bar but there were plenty of open tables and room at the bar. Our server was a bartender and he was very attentive. We ordered white whine (Chenin blanc) and Sakura cocktail-$28. For dinner we had edamame and spicy tuna egg roll. Great food, amazing ambiance, we could watch the sun set and the cove was beautiful! Terrible service, insanely overpriced, micro sized overpriced sushi, terrible miso soup, slow service, overpriced drinks........ and on and on. Sounds harsh but unfortunately very true. All star chef alert! This is a true gem. Come and watch the sunset. Have dinner in the sand. And enjoy the amazing Korean and Japanese flavors. All the fish tasted amazingly fresh. Staff is very friendly and helpful. But the food is the star...even more than the view. We had the shishito peppers (fantastic), the ssam (tasty and a good intro to ssam) the miso cod (delicious and perfectly cooked), kimchi fried rice (spicy), hamachi (fresh and clean tasting), botan prawn (so yummy), pork bao ( must get.) If you're looking to dine at Positivo then you should already know you're going to be paying resort prices so setting that aside, here's my review of the place: Food (in descending order of "how highly do I recommend this"): - French toast: If you're here for breakfast, definitely the French toast. we ate here for breakfast every day for four days in a row and that was by far the most memorable. I don't even normally like French toast that much, but Positivo does a different take on theirs. It's almost like it's lightly fried on the outside. So good. - chicken sausage: another very good breakfast menu item. It's extra $$ to add to your dish as a side, but so worth it. - breakfast smoothie: really good coconut / banana-ish smoothie. It's like having a virgin cocktail in the morning. - eggs benny: meh - chips & guac: it's fine. Nothing special. Only get if you're bored out of your mind in the afternoon and have nothing else to do except snack on something (which is what happened to me) - fish tacos: meh I think I also had their sushi and ceviche or something; in any case it was not very memorable and I don't recommend it. View can't be beat; there's open air dining overlooking the ocean / next to the pool. Servers go out of their way to be nice. They'll even grab you the complimentary coco frios from the coco frio cart if you're there in the afternoon. read more

We stayed for 6 nights/5 days at the Ritz Carlton Dorado Beach Resort. During that time we had two lunches and two dinners at Positivo Restaurant which is on the property. The ambience and setting couldn't be better! It's an open air restaurant where there are tables on the sand or on the deck. There is also a (sushi) bar. I would definitely say that there is an asian flair to the flavors of the restaurant with sushi and sashimi available. We had an opportunity to speak with the chef who expressed his mission to only use top notch ingredients. It definitely shows. Our first dinner we had more small plates type items including pan roasted exotic mushrooms, duck confit with rice buns, kimchi, hoisin and scallions, and hamachi ceviche with granita. Our second dinner was more "typical" of a sushi restaurant including a (delicious) rainbow roll, (amazing) spider roll, octopus yakitori and a seaweed salad. We were also provided with an amuse bouche of salmon and watermelon! Really the flavors and presentation were fabulous. As for lunch one day we had grilled fish tacos and the other day a delicious kale salad with cashews and edamame. Also great cocktails! Allow me the pleasure to say that this experience is offered at the restaurant Positivo Sand Bar. I was transported to a new world of dining during my visit to this restaurant, so the description and the details are not fake. Positivo transports its customers, as they did for me, to a new lively world full of color, culture, and delectable savors and flavors. Not many other restaurants in the world (in my opinion) can complete such an experience (Keep in mind that I haven't traveled the world yet). We all love our Earth, hopefully. Enjoying nature is a great way to gain a full experience of life on this planet. Why would this matter for a restaurant review? On this note, think of how lovely it would be to eat on the beach in a beautiful restaurant. This is provided at Positivo. The Ritz beach (as I will mention it) was well-kept and managed to prevent trash and debris from finding their way onto the shore or nearby. The beach also has exquisite views. A well-kept and clean pool is also for the enjoyment of poolside dining. A gentle breeze is always present. Positivo provides both fine dining and comfortable lounging options, depending on the type of dining experience one would want. Seated at the bar, I could smell rich savors of spices and sweets from the food being served to us. I find this to be the perfect location for a successful Puerto Rican restaurant. When visiting this restaurant, I found it had the perfect variety on its menu, but also stayed true and firm to its cultural theme. As an appetizer, we were given salted edamame. I ordered the Over the Rainbow and Lobster Dynamite sushi rolls. On average, a customer can spend around $50+ depending on the number of people in one's party, type of dining, etc. In the end, everything weighs out as being worth it. Delicious food, quality service, and a unique location can't be priced as being free. As the saying goes, "Everything comes with a price," in our case, a delicious price. For some people who like to eat out, good restaurant service can be what sticks with them after their meal. If this is the case, then this piece of information might be more than helpful. Positivo is open from 11 a.m-11 p.m. The quality of service was what ranked the restaurant near the very top. We were quickly seated at our table and began our meal promptly. The servers were very respectful of our needs and had great options for those who had allergies, pickiness, or any dislikes of certain foods. My mother for example was able to get gluten-free options for her allergies. I find these traits of awareness, respect, kindness, and order to be the best qualities of restaurant service. In summary, there are too many ideal factors that can't be found anywhere else with such ease which can be found at Positivo. This allows for the exceptional beachside restaurant to provide such a majestic experience. Not every restaurant has such high standards of customer service, nor do they have such an appealing environment to the eye around the restaurant; finally, such food can be difficult to find, meaning food with a story of flavor and compulsiveness (this includes me). I have no choice to give Positivo a very positive review. I would recommend this restaurant to any and everyone who desires to have a positively tropical dining experience. read more

We just moved to Puerto Rico and had the pleasure of dining at Positivo tonight. It reopened October 1, 2018, following Maria's wrath. This is, hand down, the most pleasurable dining experience I've had ever in my life. The food(Asian sushi oriented) was top notch, ambiance as spectacular as anyplace in the world I've eaten and the service genuine and local (Chloe from nearby Arricibo). Had they set a table in the restroom, my family and I would have returned a second time. Fight any urge to dine quickly and take advantage of having to ask the server to repeat herself, since the surf crashing on the reef plays in the background. Positivo food was ok but the service poor. Seemed that plates were delivered before starters and service was haphazard. A lot of people were rushing around throughout the meal. Table next to us their soup did not arrive first and the family canceled it.
