We liked Don Sterling from the moment we spoke to him on the phone and then met with him. After working with several dog trainers without success (to address very rambunctious and difficult behaviors), and feeling guilty that we were at fault and doing something wrong, Don put us immediately at ease, and made us feel so relieved about what was really going on. At no cost, he volunteered to meet with our dog and he showed us invaluable techniques that were immediately helpful. We could see from our dog's response that Don has a special ability to connect with canines and truly understands how to train them. We subsequently enrolled our dog in the amazing 3 month training course which was transformational in our dog's behavior. Thanks to the training of Don and his superb team, we have a good quality of life restored, can really enjoy our dog and feel that the dog is at much lower risk now for safety problems. On a personal level, we have greatly enjoyed getting to know Mr. Sterling and talking about politics and the world. He is fun to see every time we have a chance to meet. We were also moved by the story how Don took it upon himself to adopt a very challenging dog that was impossible for the prior owner to manage and dedicate his efforts and resources to giving this dog a good life. We would also like to comment about the kennel and feel compelled to provide an alternative perspective to the single negative review posted by another reviewer. We regret that reviewer sites like Yelp do not offer external validation of contentions in reviews and we frankly found none of the negative items cited in that review. Our dog has stayed at the kennel on several occasions. The kennel in our opinion has unique positive aspects that make it far superior to caging an animal in the typical veterinarian office. The grounds are beautiful and the dogs get unusually large personal space to romp around. The staff is caring and dedicated. We have witnessed for ourselves plenty of shady spots on the grounds. When I got my pup (Ollie), he was a little scared of other dogs. He would bark at them and go crazy, he will also see certain people and go nuts as well. If you got into an elevator with me and him, he would bark at you. Not in an aggressive way, more like who are you give me love kinda of way. He also loved to pull and drag me or whoever walked him around. I had already trained him with potty training, but was concerned that his behavior kept getting worse. My neighbor also has a German Shepherd and her dog is insane. She can barely control him and he's also super aggressive. My fear was that Ollie would wind up like that and that I'd have to give him up because I wouldn't be able to control him). After reading a lot of reviews, I contacted Abcs of Dog Training, and spoke to Michael. I was interested in the three week training. Michael was very clear and honest from the start. Seemed to know what he was doing. He agreed to come pick up Ollie. While away, Michael sent me updates. He taught him commands and socialized Ollie. Now when I take him for walks, Ollie never barks at anyone, not even at other dogs. The only time when he barks is when we are inside the home and there's someone approaching the door from the outside. He walks great on the leash, and listens to me. You have to keep on practicing the commands (heel, sit, leave it, lay down, stay, drop it, measure walk, and a few more). I'm extremely grateful for Michael and his training. Training was a bit expensive but so worth it. Michael also offers the two week follow up and is there for any questions you may have before and after the process.

They seemed to be getting along, but their play time always ended in growling and yowling. I had no idea what to do and whether both of my cats were secretly very stressed by each other. Stacy did a remote visit via Zoom where we discussed the history of both cats and I gave a tour of the living space and where all the various cat items were in the house (litter boxes, feeding areas, etc). But outside of his annoying issues, he's awesome, and let's face it, our pets deserve as much love and cuddle-time as possible. My friends recommended Mike of Paws Up NYC after he took care of their dog, who had aggression with other dogs, including mine, due to not being socialized when younger and snapped whenever another dog got within 5 feet. After two weeks of Mike taking care of her, their dog had no problem with dogs. Because my usual dogsitter was on vacation, I decided to use the time to try Mike out, and I'm glad I did! When I returned, Shabu was noticeably calmer indoors, so right away I knew Mike had done some training with him during his staycation. While Shabu doesn't have command issues, he does have behavioral issues and Mike had some (free) advice and suggestions that helped a ton; I believe he also tried to work with him on those issues but it's difficult because the permanent home is different from a temporary home. Regardless, it has helped to an extent for sure. Since then, I've been bringing my dog to Mike since he lives a bit closer as well. He really takes the time to get to know your dog's habits and quirks, meanwhile integrating them into the pack slowly (with new dogs) so as not to spaz any of them out. He can teach your dog basic commands or any new tricks if you'd like (there is a questionnaire that you fill out). The best part of the entire thing is that he keeps you updated the entire time with videos and photos so you don't have to freak out and worry how things are going. Not only is he great with dogs, he is very genuine and easy-going and makes you feel relieved with leaving your pup behind. I highly recommend Mike for anyone in the Queens area (or further if you are ok with traveling) for daycare, boarding or training. As for daily/weekly rates, it is on point with others in the area, so there is absolutely no excuse not to head to Paws Up. Now if only he could take care of my cat-dog*... *Cat that thinks and acts like a dog - not a half-cat, half-dog mythical creature

He did not mind that our Weim was high energy. Mike was cool as a cucumber as our Weim clamored into his car, and honestly, Mike's easy-going nature put us at ease. The cool thing? Is that Mike provided loving care to our fur guy and little did we know it would be the last time our Weim would board anywhere, as our he passed away at age 12, about nine months later. Mike provided us with photos and a video of our Weim in his care, enjoying his time with the other boarders, the video and photos we still enjoy looking at to this day. No other boarding service did that for us, and Mike did. (Okay, tears are welling up in my eyes now.) Please look no further. Mike is the best. Just call him. :)
