After insisting on the phone that I couldn't possibly be buying a kids pizza for a child 12 or younger I had to confirm numerous times that I was. Once I was there the employee working made a sarcastic remark as she was walking away about my car not having room for a child. The food is good. As far as Plainfield goes, it's few & far between that you'll find a place like it. My Meal: I had the carcass pie. Lots of meat. Go for it if you want a belly full of it. The calamari salad was really nice. Crispy fried, nicely salted. Good balance on the sour vinegar and lemon. The pickle plate was also very nice. I liked the touch of picked beet slices & garlic. Yum. I was disappointed by the lack of kambucha, on top or in bottles. I want it!!! I don't drink alcohol, so when I go to a watering hole like PP, I'm impressed by their menu of food and jealous of the gorgeous long list of beers. But not for the alcohol. When in Plainfield (or in the vicinity of it), eat at Positive Pie! I stepped into this place, expecting the food to match the surrounds - comfortable, casual, country. Instead, was incredibly surprised by the top notch quality dining that is served in a very homey, neighborhood watering hole. We debated between some rather interesting pizza selections that featured ingredients one doesn't find too often but settled for the bruschetta to play it safe. That pizza was by far one of the best I've tasted across many many trips to many many foodie cities. Simple, healthy, delicious - perfect pizza! My carrot-ginger-butternut soup presented in a pretty and oblong bowl was rather good too. We only got positive pie because it was the closest pizza place to us when we lived in Marshfield. We've had both good and bad experiences at positive pie. Once, we were put on hold for 30 minutes on the phone while ordering; they completely forgot about us. Sometimes when we get the garlic bread, we find it soft and flavorful, but others we find it chewy and crunchy. They used to have AMAZING poutine, but they took it off their menu. They have weekly specials, but it's never on their website. We absolutely love their pizza (just not the price) and their calzones. We began with a 30 minute wait before we got our drinks. Those drinks were weak and expensive. The waitress was kind but the cook staff was very slow. The manager spilled dressing all over my clothing. When we received our dinner order - it was incorrect and because of this they refused to serve another drink to my friend (because she hadn't eaten) although our other friend had been served 5 drinks with only an appetizer as a dinner. Last night my roommate and I went in to get slices at 7:30pm. Upon arriving to the restaurant, it was very clear they weren't looking for business. All the chairs were flipped upside down and they made us feel rushed to get out because they automatically put our slices in a box when we originally planned to eat at the bar like we normally did. Food was delicious but the service sucked. Today, the following day, we called and ordered a whole pizza this time rather than slices. We called to place our order and were immediately put on hold. 15 minutes go by and we decide to go to the restaurant while still on hold. We walked into the restaurant still on hold and approached the counter where their phoned sat on the counter. The guy was clearly talking about something not work related while I remained on hold. Spent the day hiking with friends in Groton, and this was our choice for dinner. The pizza was delicious and fresh, the crust crunchy and soft at the same time. Awesome! Our only issue was their cashier (?) I think he was new and totally forgot that our friends had ordered beer- kind of a big deal to be waiting on your beer! Let me start by saying - we LOVE Plainfield Positive Pie. The food is excellent, the vibe is cool, the service is great. But after calling in a take out order last Sunday, the guy took the order, I paid via debit card (so my husband could just stop and pick it up on his way home), and I was asked if I wanted to "add a tip for the cooks or the people working". I said NO - after waitressing for 20 yrs my feeling is that taking an order over the phone is part of the job. So imagine my surprise when I found out that despite saying NO to leaving a tip - a 10% tip was added to my total without my permission!!! This was confirmed by the manager - Roen (sp?) - who agreed it was added and was not cool. So my question is this - how many other customers have been charged a tip unknowingly?! Having direct access to my $ and using it as they please In spite of my solid NO - is something that the state police are now looking into. Beware!!!!! read more

So to preface, we have high food expectations. We have eaten pizza all over this country. And all sorts of food for that matter. We had just moved from California, and after the meals we had the first few days, we didn't have have high hopes. Positive Pie proved us so wrong. Everything was delicious. We had the best salad, which although a combination we have had before, it was done really well, dressed correctly and the cheese was amazing. I meant to ask where it was from. The fried Brussels were also great, so crispy, I especially loved the super crispy leaves that had fallen off!!! And the pizza was so flavorful and the best we have had in a long time! After enjoying the Hardwick location we hit the Plainfield location for a beer and snack, what a different experience.... Tap list on both walls was entirely old so the guy handed us the current list on paper, which was fine but all were non-Vermont beers......believe me I like Sixpoint, La Gunitas etc. But what the hell happened to the vt beers.......that is why we come.....that is what positive is known for..... No crafted cocktails like Hardwick and the staff overall looked like they smoked a community bowl after the lunch service.....overall vibe of lazy, the damn beer lists are chalk boards, get.me an eraser and some chaulk we can have this done in 5 mins.... Wings were average at best for $10, "hot" was barely even mild.....need to rethink that sauce and two carrot slices and two celery slices......did the celery commodity mkt just spike? Is there a carrot shortage? Compared to Hardwick, this place needs a real kick in the ass to get their $hit together. read more

I had avoided positive pie for the past year or so because of some less than stellar meals but was recently convinced by a girlfriend who works there to give it another go since they had improved the food a lot. I've eaten there twice in the past few months, and both times the food was way better than it had been on previous visits. the first time I had a pasta dish that was tasty, but a tiny bit on the bland side, all the sides were great and the chicken in it was perfect. The second time we went was on valentines day and the steak I ordered was amazing, perfectly cooked and with great flavor. I'm glad I gave it a second chance. read more

On Dec. 26 my wife and I took our family to dinner. Our party of 10 was promptly seated and the drink order taken and served. In a reasonable amount of time our dinner order was taken and served. Following dinner I presented my credit card to pay the $369.xx check. I was informed that because the credit card machine was inoperable I would have to pay in cash. I said I (and most likely hardly anyone else) generally carried that much cash with them anymore. I was politely told there was an ATM machine across the street. My question is, why wasn't I told the credit card machine was inoperable when we were seated and prior to our order being placed? I had already given up on the Barre location because of the noise and uncomfortable seating. So long PP. Another good reason to avoid Montpelier! We stopped by around 830pm en route to stowe from a vacation in quebec city. Friendly service and good food. Excellent braised beef pappardelle and at our neighbor's suggestion (they were the makers of the ice cream served here), we tried the bread pudding with ice cream. Since my last review, I have had to go on a bunch of weird dietary restrictions that make salad the only thing I can eat at this location. Not only did they happily and helpfully agree to make me a custom salad with only things I could eat, but they even brought me the dressing ingredient lists so that I could check that they were safe for me to eat. This place was a super nice surprise. We had just done a tour of the Cabot cheese factory and had about a 2 hour drive back home. Stumbled upon this place, and we were not disappointed. A few of us had pizza, which was great (love the crust) and others had burgers and a Reuben. All good, plus they had a great beer selection including Heady Topper! Also had very friendly service. The Plainfield Positive Pie makes the best pies in central Vermont -- because of experienced cooks and good water. They also brought back the fried option for the chicken sandwich, and they make a a great fried chicken sandwich. Unfortunately, they seem to be scrounging for money from their customers. When you order no ice for your Rookies Root Beer, they pour you a 10 oz. glass instead of the pint it usually comes in when it has ice. Additionally, they won't serve you a full-sized pizza pie in the dining room--presumably because their margin is smallest on the large pies and they can get people to shell out. They also close down completely shortly after the kitchen closes (around 9) which leaves Plainfield residents with nowhere else to go. All in all, despite a friendly staff, the policies make you feel unwelcome as a customer. read more

A warming station that offers many varieties of fresh baked pies that you can mix and match to take home in a box or eat in. Simply the best pizza north of NYC! No really, I am from there, and you don't get NYers saying good things about any pizza but the real deal. ANd this is the real deal. Sure, being in VT the folks here have to offer the possibility of tofu, goat cheese and sunflower pizza, but really, who wants that? No, give me a good old-fashioned cheese slice, or a meatball and (OK, I'll admit it) sun-dried tomato (it's oh-so-good), or a chicken parmesan (chunks of the chicken they use for sandwiches on a pizza - it's the best of both kinds of food). Been eating here for some time with no troubles and suddenly hit some major glitch. Not that busy for a saturday night and still the food VERY late, friends next to us waited nearly an hour. Ok, first, their food is very good, especially their pizza. Brunch is excellent as well. The folks there are very nice too. I have one problem with their pizza; they only serve small pizzas (12") and they charge, by area, over 55% more than their other locations that serve 15" pizzas. If you are a group (two or more people) it really makes sense to eat at Positive Pie in Montpelier, or Parker's Pie in North Glover. They both have excellent pizza (Parker Pie in my opinion being a tad better). Paying more than 55% more for the same amount of the same quality pizza doesn't make sense to me. read more
