Not welcoming place at all, I had some rude older guy aggressively come up to my car in his caddy and demanded I leave, threatened me with police just for checking the area out. I wasn't planning on parking at all and there were only signs about parking permits no private property or no trespassing signs. Overall just rude employee and not welcoming place. The place seems open to public and for services and there's a restaurant nearby, am I not in a free nation and for that I like to visually see what the service is before making a transaction if I ever decide to but I would never do business with such an establishment. read more

Poor management that seems to follow the rules and regulations when they decide to. Some people are allowed to have permanent residence on Portman and some are told it's not allowed per regulations. Rules seem to change like the seasons even down to the dock you rent on. So plenty of "good ol boy" discrimination if you're into that. Add a little e-coli in the water and you've found paradise! This marina is one of the more popular ones on Lake Hartwell, so on a busy summer weekend day you'll maybe have to wait for the pumps and dance around a lot of people at the gas dock but they do keep the fuel prices down in comparison (SC is always cheaper anyways than the GA side) and the restaraunts here are very good, a steakhouse and a Asian Sushi place. Had my boat there in 2015 thru 2018, rates went up every year even though no improvements were made, especially in security. Had trolling motor, batteries (2) and charger stolen in the first year, had my trailer in storage yard and spare tire was stolen. Bottom line don't leave anything you value on board your boat or trailer read more

Poor management by Sharon. She can never stick to her story that she tells you because she lies so much. When I asked to speak to the owner Sharon covers for him and will not pass on my name and number to him for him to call me. OR at least she says she gives it to him but he never calls. Their rules seems to change as they decide to make them up as they go. I put in for a slip rental and was told I had to have a 700 credit score JUST to rent a boat slip (really) Im asking to rent a slip NOT buy the slip. Well my score came back a little below 700 so I was told by Sharon I was turned down because of my credit score. I called the company they used to check my background and everything and they told me NO WAY should I have been turned down because other than my credit score being just under 700 that I was squeaky clean and that it was a shame they turned me down. So when I called Sharon back she said thats the owners policy because people under 700 credit scores don't pay their bills. What a insult to me when I make triple digits of income a year and NEVER been late OR missed a payment on anything ever!!!. But yet I was discriminated against because based on their theory that ANYONE under a 700 credit score DON"T pay their bills. I even told her will paying annually each year in advance so you don't have to worry about collecting from a low life that you said I was was then she blamed it on the owner so I said have him call me and I have never heard from him. What a piece of crap to insinuate that I don't pay my bills because of my credit score being a little 700. I find it VERY HARD to believe that EVERYONE who has a boat out there has a 700 plus credit scores especially after seeing a lot of run down boats out there docked. I have perfect paid accounts on everything, I can buy new cars, trucks, just bought a new Bently Pontoon, a new house and get any loan I want or need BUT I can't rent a slip at Portman Marina. I have asked for a copy of their guidelines to rent a slip BUT have yet to be provided one. Like one of the other reviews they make them up as they go. All I asked is for the owner to meet with me and discuss everything with me BUT he refuses OR does Sharon just block anyone from contacting him. I am a business professional (not a low life scrub) like I have been treated has been very bad. Once again they do not have to worry about me paying like Sharon says they have a hard time collecting from the people they now have because I will be paying in full for a year. Plus IF they are having problems with other's paying their slip rentals and they all are supposed to have a 700 credit score then it seems like to me that the 700 and above credit score people DON'T pay their bills. Again ALL I asked is for the owner to call me directly to discuss this matter with me. I would not be so upset IF it was not for Sharon saying people below a 700 credit score don't pay their bills but turn right around and say the ones they have renting slips right now won't pay and they ALL are supposed to be 700 scores or higher. You have my telephone number on file if the owner wants to talk to me. If I wanted to buy the marina I would get approved with no problem because of my income and score but I can't rent because of my score or income. Does that make since??? NO it don't!!! read more
