I honestly wasn't expecting a breakfast sandwich this good for an airport restaurant, however, Portermill changed my mind. I definitely recommend stopping here for a bite if you're at DSM looking for something to eat. Staff were all friendly and the restaurant itself was pretty spacious if you have luggage.

Solid experience this time, but not quite as good as our last review. Very good service and the food was fine, but nothing remarkable. I got a Rachel-Turkey Reuben. It was gooey and very good. The fries were a bit limp and just OK. My wife got the chicken sandwich, which was a nice plump piece of chicken. She got the Broccoli mix for her side, which was good, but it did have a mystery piece of steak mixed in...that's a new one. For airport food-better than average and fairly priced.

DesMoines Airport is not that big. You don't get much for options for food. This is a nice spot to sit down and enjoy food or watch TV at the bar if you are waiting for your flight. We were needing some substance before getting on a flight. The restaurant wasn't a super busy this early in the day. The waiter was quick to our table and help us. We started with a 2 top and turned into a 4 top. He was completely adaptable to the situation. You can get cocktails an app or a meal. Hubby wanted to try the Tenderloin and fries. When the other half of our party made it through security they got the chips and guacamole. The chips were rather salty but the guac was good. I stole a bite of the tenderloin and thought it was also rather good. Really if you have the time and need something substantial, you dont have to pass it up. Its pricing is reasonable for airport and location.

Great pit-stop for that "downtime" between flights! HUGE selection of local beers, including special seasonal varieties. One of the few airport bars/restaurants that offers a menu with breakfast, lunch and dinner, in addition to an extensive drinks menu. Prices are consistent with typical airport mark-ups; well worth it though, when there's amazing service and a great food!

Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes with steamed veggies

Service wasn't great. It was about 10 min before someone came to take my order. At the airport, that's a really long time. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes looked and tasted great. Really enjoyed it. The steamed broccoli, however, had a fishy taste. Not sure if it was overcooked or what, but I couldn't eat it.

The bartenders here are super friendly!! Their upbeat energy and positive attitude for an airport bar where a lot of people have been delayed made my day. They recommended the pollo - chicken sandwich w fries and it was really good especially with the fresh relish. The back wall of the bar is all windows so its nice and bright during the day and you can watch the planes.

It's an airport restaurant so how much can one expect? Big and loud was expected. The server was rude. She was busy and they were short staffed but I can't let that be a justification. The burger was interesting. The Bloody Mary was good. I guess I'll be back since it's the only choice I've got. The salad bar might be better. Dang she was rude. She must hate her job.

Flight before the flight! All local beers...

With Jimmy's closing at DIA, this is now my favorite airport restaurant experience. Granted this is on the airport scale, so temper your expectations appropriately. With that said, they have beer flights! And tons of delicious craft options on tap. On my most recent visit, I had two faves from my previous visit and two new ones. I highly recommend the Ice Scream. The flavors hit your mouth at different points and it's one of my favorite dark beers. I had the Iowan as my entree last time. The mustard sauce is delicious--I wish there was more. The tenderloin itself is lightly breaded--similar to a pork chop. Fries are run-of-the-mill, no pun intended. One area for improvement: The menus don't seem to be updated in a timely manner. On both visits, I've been told that a certain beer is no longer carried. This should be a 30-second fix with an all-digital menu.

Excellent martini with blue cheese stuffed olives!

Great spot at the airport to drink and dine before your flight. Fast service and not very crowded

Waited 30 minutes and no one took my order. Saw multiple groups of people leave because their food was taking to long to come out.

Can you eat here without having a flight? I think you have to go through security?

You do need a ticket to get to Portermill. However, there is a full service nice restaurant before security called Berk & Chesters.

Friday Night At the Angry Gold Fish…read more This is usually a solid place to get a burger, but came up short. We arrived around 7:30 and it was busy. I asked for the corner table which was large and there were two of us. I chose it because it was quiet and it was so loud. The waitress seamed super annoyed. I am deaf in one ear and this was the best place so I could hear and actually enjoy the place. I didn't feel her attitude was justified. If she would have kept pushing the point it was going to get pushed to the manager as I have several disabilities and I don't use them, but I do choose certain places to sit to help manage them. My expectation is for the waitress to be kind and shouldn't matter if it's two people, four people, or six people. Should be glad to have a customer and business. My wife and I got a Knob Creek on the rocks to start off. We also each got the old fashion, one with tots and one with fries. The burgers have really good flavor, but wasn't even hot. The bun was super dry and I wound up leaving the bun and eating the burger. The tots were really good, but also not hot. My wife's was the same. The French fries were good, but not hot. I didn't say anything to the waitress because based on her attitude it was just going to make the night worse and I was out to have a nice evening. I have been here several times and this is my first bad experience here and I hope it's not a sign that the restaurant is going downhill. This is one of my go to spots in Des Moines to get a great burger and it should be fire on a Friday night. Fresh and delicious, not cold and dry, is the new requirement, an angry waitress to complete the Angry Goldfish vibe?

I recently enjoyed a beer here was waiting for my Southwest Flight to Board. Wine and hard liquor drinks are also available, with limited snack offerings. I was happy to just sit at the bar, relax, read, and of course nurse the beer. A Bar opens at 4:00 a.m. daily and closes 30 minutes before the departure of the last flight of the day from Gates A3, A4, and A5 in the A Concourse. I don't think I've ever been at DSM at 4 AM, but it's good to know that a Mimosa, Bloody Mary, or even a Screwdriver might be available for anyone (like Gayle) with flight anxiety.

A Bar Called A Bar, But Apparently Not for Everyone"…read more Stopped in at the bar by Gate [insert gate number if you remember] with plenty of time before my flight. I asked a nearby guest if the seat was taken, sat down respectfully, and waited. No menu. No QR code. No acknowledgment. The bartender made eye contact multiple times, walked right past me, and went back to chatting and grabbing condiments for people already served. She had time--not slammed, not overwhelmed--just uninterested. I waited patiently, looked around like I was invisible, and after several minutes of being completely ignored, I got up and left. Everyone else had drinks. I had nothing but confusion and the uncomfortable realization that apparently, simply existing there wasn't enough to be treated like a customer. It's called a bar--serving people is literally the job. A little acknowledgment goes a long way. Sadly, this place couldn't even manage that. Do better.

This tiny house is giving Des Monies the vibes it's missing…read more.. On a short layover in Iowa, I was looking for good drinks and food without a lot of waiting or being overcrowded. What I found was a little gem off of one of the main roads in downtown Des Monies. Even before you enter this self described "Tiki Bar" you see all the brick buildings, and then you see an actual grass covered roof...yep that's the place and a really nice touch. The interior is equally cool and spacious, you are greeted by the bar area immediately when you walk in. To your right are comfy couches and instagram friendly neon wall signs, with that signature tiki touch of floral patterns and great lighting. The location is connected to a Asian food restaurant, so they get their food from them as you drink some of the most well crafted adult drinks I've had in a while. I came for happy hour on a Saturday 4:00pm-6:30pm. The drinks were basically 2.00 off with discounted food, the menu is limited to mostly chicken wraps and crab rangoons etc. I will say the portions were filling and very delicious. The star of the show was my El Colmillo, a tequila based drink with lime, orange juice, lime. The bartender did say it's all pre mixed, and that day she subbed the tequila with Casamigos, because the house tequila was out. Customer service was great, until it wasn't. Our server was excellent, until a guy came in off break and they seemed to have some tension. She really didn't have that same positive energy as before, otherwise an overall excellent experience. Pro Tip: Take a walk over to "Hello, Marjorie", it's a completely different vibe but drinks there are just as good...if not better. Go see Travis, he is 10/10 at "Hello, Marjorie".
