While visiting the Arbor Farm, we decided to eat at Porter's just adjacent to the gift shop. We both love BBQ and the menu looked good. I had the brisket plate, and my wife has a special St Louis style ribs plate that isn't on the menu. We arrived at the lunch hour peak but the wait wasn't long, service was friendly, and the food arrived promptly. The ribs and brisket were both delicious, as were the side. The pickled green beans were a first for both of us. There were plenty of spaces to eat at, but wish we would have noticed the outdoor tables or we would have eaten there instead of the main dining area. Overall a very pleasant lunch.

Best BBQ I've had in Nebraska! No need to drive 3 hours from Omaha to go to Kansas City for bbq. Porter's is located at Arbor Day Farm in Nebraska City. I had the burnt ends plate with coleslaw. It came with crunchy pickled green beans and Texas toast. The burnt ends were tender and not too fatty. So good! My husband got the chicken and baked beans. Also got a cider sushi for the kids and a slice of apple pie. Sadly, they were sold out of their ice cream but their apple pie is so good alone. There is indoor and outdoor seating. You can also get some cider or wine at the bar. Would definitely make the drive just to eat the BBQ.

Porter's is located in Arbor Day Farm. The bbq is made on site. I ordered the brisket sandwich and potato salad. Overall, it was okay. The brisket was smoked well and started out good first couple bites. Then I eventually got to a lot of fatty pieces and it was evident the brisket is not trimmed. That was a bit disappointing. The potato salad was not my favorite either. The service was good. The lady at the register was open and honest. She let us know the pies are frozen and not made fresh in house. She gave a sample of the apple cider slushy. That was really good and made onsite with the apples from the orchard.

All of the BBQ from Porters looked delicious. I chose the brisket, it was tender and moist, and the tasty smoke flavor permeated the beef. They source the finest quality ingredients, emphasizing local meat and produce, with much of the produce grown on site with plans to develop and expand their garden moving forward.

Dang delicious!!! I've had a tin of BBQ across the states, and this is in the top 5. Brisket fell…read moreapart and had a great seasoning. You can always tell a great BBQ when you don't need sauce to season or moisten the meat. Pulled pork was excellent, the the corn bread had to be the best I have had anywhere. It tasted like they deepfried it quickly to add an extra crunchy outside and the flavor was on fire! Definitely a must if you visit Omaha

I'll round up the rating to four stars, partially because the people here were superbly nice. Very…read morewelcoming and friendly. After a fun day at the zoo, we decided to finally try Smoking Jay's. On this day, we took advantage of a special that was enough to feed two. Three pork ribs, brisket, two sides, toast, and cornbread. First, like every barbecue place, I like to try the sauce first. Good BBQ doesn't need sauce but a good BBQ restaurant should have it. Strange thinking, I know. They have two sauces here. Spicy and regular. Both seemed overwhelmingly full of, I think, molasses. I didn't care for either but favored the spicy (which is hardly spicy). Strangely, the sauce tasted better when paired with the meat. Imagine that! You get two choices for brisket, fatty or lean. We chose lean and it was not great but better than okay. Well seasoned too. Notice the nice smoke ring in my picture! The ribs? They were 100% perfectly, delicious, and NOT fall off the bone (which should never be for legit BBQ - a good rib has a tug). Bravo for great ribs!! The side dish of BBQ beans was pretty good, better than most, but there was something in there that was not to my liking (best guess, bay leaf... yuck). The coleslaw was alright. There was also a nice small side of spicy pickles and onions too. Overall, we will come back when convenient and get those ribs again! Okra is another side dish that we will try next time. Super friendly people here!
