Enjoyed a quick but late dinner after arriving oversized and tired. The Ruben was delicious and the rye bread was perfectly crunchier. My husband is a trucker and we stopped at Sapp Bros to have dinner for his 10 hour break. We ate at the Apple Barrel and they had ribs, so my husband and I both ordered them. Let me tell ya, these are the best ribs I have ever eaten...Applebees doesn't even come close!!! The waitresses were friendly and attentive. The bathrooms are wonderful, they even have bidets. They sell everything from truck supplies to mattresses...if you need it, they probably got it. We will be stopping here again tomorrow on our way with our next load. As truckers my husband and I done our reset here. We ate both breakfast and dinner there. Dinner wasn't all that great. I had the chicken fried chicken, mashed potatoes and a salad; the breading was just falling off of the chicken, salad was a bit slimy, potatoes were good. My husband had the burnt ends dinner, he wasn't thrilled with anything on his plate. Now the next morning at Breakfast, that was amazing 10/10 recommend their breakfast food. Keep in mind that this place is literally a roadside diner next to Wendy's. It's way better than Wendy's. If you think it's going to be like a gourmet thing, you gotta humble yourself a little bit. This is a perfect roadside diner for if you're staying at the hotel or need a better bite to eat than greasy fast food. They have salads, cold drinks, and hot delicious food. The Cajun fries are great with the ranch. Our server was really nice and quick to bring everything. The restaurant itself is more just like a dining hall set up, but it's nice if you just wanna sit and rest after a long drive. Again this isn't the Taj Mahal and neither should it be. Owned by actress Barrel Streep and Coldplay's kid Apple Martin, this is a cute truck stop diner in the middle of nowhere. Lovely little diner south of Omaha, in Iowa, right off the highway, which has some good home-style dishes and All American food which will fill you right up for pretty good prices. Stopped in during a road trip. The clear plastic cups were stained yellow and I really didn't want to drink from them. The waitress was efficient. The ambience was like an old crappy cafeteria. I was in here on Turkey day and ended up getting the bacon cheeseburger and fries. I ALWAYS get a bacon cheeseburger if I'm eating somewhere for the first time. The meat was gross, I'm guessing it was frozen meat patties that were low quality meat? I ate it because I was starving and even tipped the server female $20 on my $17 meal because I felt bad that she was running around like crazy on the holiday. Remember how I said that I love restaurants that are in truck-stops? Well, apparently I don't love all of them because this place was a major disappointment. The one exception about this experience was that our waitress, Aubrey, was phenomenal. She was quick, efficient and had everything handled nicely. My husband and I sat at the bar and first noticed how small the selection was. I really didn't want a heavy steak and baked potato for lunch but couldn't find anything else that appealed to me. I decided to order the NY strip steak (cooked medium well) with a baked potato. The steak was cooked perfectly but was not seasoned at all. Not even with salt and pepper. When you have to add ketchup to your steak just for some flavor, you know you're doing it wrong. The baked potato was basic and didn't come with shredded cheese or chives. What?! Now onto the real problem. My husband ordered the chicken parmesan penne pasta and from the first bite, he was disgusted. The pasta was overcooked so drastically that it was as if he were chewing pasta flavored bubble gum. The chicken inside the pasta wasn't completely deboned and he kept biting on pieces of bone. After telling our waitress, and after speaking to her manager, we were only refunded 7$ of the 12.99$ price tag. I'm assuming it's because of the one bite he took. Sorry to say it, the Sapp Bros store is neat but I'll never be back to eat at the Apple Barrel restaurant inside. I'd rather eat Taco Bell. read more

I certainly enjoyed my time at this location while traveling northbound to Omaha and the Council Bluffs area. The staff here is fun to be around, breakfast is mmm mmm good exceptional, and the venue itself is very clean. I haven't quite grasped the small bar concept as of yet, but I'm getting there. Came here traveling through the Midwest one afternoon a few weeks ago. It's inside of a nice little truck stop (Sapp Bros). Ended up having the chicken parmesan pasta. First, yes it tastes amazing. Second, the portion is huge. If you don't have a big appetite, you'll have plenty of leftovers to last you through the winter. Third, the people here are really friendly. Very good food. Eggs prepared perfect. Big ol'chicken fried steak had good flavor. Lots of coffee refills. Friendly service. 4 days later had a monster catfish deep fried whole (- the head) with a light golden breading that has to be a local recipe. It's probably the best breakfast in the area-- but considering how low the bar is, that's not a rave review. If you don't stray too far from pancakes and sausages, you'll be safe.
