I recently went on a trip, again using Air Canada, it's as good as the last time. I really like what Air Canada has done with their bookings and check ins. It's so easy! Once the flight has been booked and confirmed, I got a reminder (24 hour window) that I can check in online. It confirms my seat, gives me options to change it (for a fee of course), and all I have to do is show up. All the information about carry ons and checked luggage are there, things I can and cannot bring, it's so convenient! On my way back from Toronto to Vancouver I had my bike with me. I was a little worried at first that it can get lost given the past troubles after covid where people were losing their luggages. I had notifications telling me where my luggage is, that it was placed in on the plane with me, who handled it. No need for an airtag! I was impressed! Checking in was so easy too! It was self serve. Go to the kiosk, enter your information, print the tag, stick it to your luggage, drop it off the automated luggage drop off point. Unfortunately for me, my bike is considered oversized so I had to go to a different area, they asked me to open it for inspection, and re-pack it, then drop it off the conveyor. Easy peasy!!! I was being given regular updates thru my phone, what time my flight is boarding and when it started. Just there's a big hole in my bike's box but the bike wasn't damaged. Overall Im happy with how easy things are. Keep doing a good job Air Canada!

After a 15-hour flight from Singapore, we landed in Vancouver expecting to catch our connecting flight to Houston. As soon as we arrived, we were notified that our flight had been canceled due to "maintenance" and were rebooked on a flight departing nearly 15 hours later, extending our journey to almost 40 hours. I understand that maintenance issues happen. My complaint is not about the cancellation it's about how my family was treated afterward. The Air Canada customer service representative assisting us, Kasumi, was rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. She raised her voice at my wife and family while demanding our travel documents, spoke with an attitude throughout the interaction, refused to explore alternative options, and initially declined to provide meal vouchers despite our lengthy delay. It wasn't until I requested a supervisor that she reluctantly provided the vouchers. When I asked to file a complaint, she told me to wait for a supervisor. After waiting for quite some time, no one came, and she ignored any further questions. To make matters worse, the customer service line downstairs had an estimated two-hour wait. While waiting, my young son developed a fever after the long international flight, forcing us to leave the line to care for him. Flight disruptions happen. What should never happen is treating exhausted families with disrespect when they are simply asking for help. The flights themselves were fine. The customer service was not. Because of this experience, I cannot recommend Air Canada and will be choosing another airline for future international travel.

The seats recline a tad bit further than domestic carriers' seats, and there are plenty of entertainment options available. They feed you well and possess that wonderful famous Filipino hospitality. Last February 22/2023 is the date of our departure to the Philippines from YVR, We had 4 pieces of…read moreluggage plus 65 inches TV. We paid extra for the TV cost us $800 and PAL workers inspected the TV and everything was ok. Anyway when we arrived in the Philippines, we are careful to handle it with care and transfer the television carefully. We unbox the TV after a week. The TV was mishandled and it's broken. Immediately I emailed Baggage Claim and they asked me to provide the proof we have for the TV. This is the last email to PAL BAGGAGE CLAIM...( All the stickers from the TV box it was submitted already to you these are the only stickers YVR provided to the tv box separated by boarding pass and the sticker for the weight of the tv. We took pictures of the box back to back and side by side. The proof we have is very strong such as a receipt, boarding pass, and stickers for the TV. The tv was inspected by the people in the Vancouver airport and it was ok and with no problem. Why you kept on asking me about the tag? The PAL worker checking the luggage is the one who assisted us measured and weight the TV and she asked my husband to bring the TV to the other side for inspection. After that inspected was successful and they proceed to check in the TV for oversize luggage. maybe the YVR PAL worker forgot to put the tag for the TV. I don't know anymore because that their job to complete the task before they proceed with the procedure for the TV. JAL is a oneWorld carrier and operates a small Lounge in YVR. It is by far nothing to write home about so don't arrive earlier at the airport than necessary. The staff has always been nice to me, in the days that they sent the 747 to YVR I always got 'upgraded' to the older First Class Cabin where they provided Business Class Service. However since the Business Class had the new Generation Shell seats that's not always an upgrade so beware. Right now JAL flies an older Version, better said THE oldest Version of it's Business Class to Vancouver. An old recliner (craddle) seat on the 777/767. It is important that you know what is awaiting you. This is a very old and angled product. The service is still good and amenities are available in the bathroom but the product is a disgrace for something that's being called and sold as Business Class in post 1995. This is not the Standard of all JAL flights and you will find that for example ex Los Angeles LAX and San Francisco SFO they use their newest equipment including the fabulous First Class Suites. Should you consider booking JAL for your trip either go through these gateways or book alternatively Cathay Pacific ex Vancouver if you have a final destination elsewhere than Japan. Cheers S.

JAL had a very small lounge in Seoul, but it had all the touches of Japan with Pocari Sweat, Asahi Beer, those automatic hand dryers you usually find in Japan, Panasonic massage chairs (although all the buttons were in Korean which made it hard to figure out all the options!), NHK playing on the Japanese made flat screen TV, etc. A bit short on food options for substantial food though (Dunkin donuts sliced in half were the primary food stuff - WTF?!?!?!). So I wandered over to another lounge. The One World alliance also gave access to the Cathay Pacific Lounge which is a 5 minute walk away and had the typical layout of a Cathay lounge as well as the trimmings. It was a larger space, and made for a relaxing meal. Had some zaru soba. The soba were more of the Korean type, but it was a filling snack. They also had lasanga, salads, cookies, etc. A slightly larger offering. So if flying JAL out of Seoul I would definitely recommend the Cathay lounge as the lounge of choice. On the flight itself JAL was using one of its older 767s for the short flight. The business class seats are kind of narrow compared to what you might find on the newer aircraft. But I think they just use these for regional flights. The flight attendants were extremely professional, very helpful, and made for a pleasant flight. On the short flight they offered a rather extensive bento box that had literally 15 different items in very small tasting portions. The highlight was the saikyo miso kare. But several of the others were tasty as well. Japan has a quarantine form that you had to fill out asking if you had any contact with anyone from the US, Canada or Mexico for the past 10 days. Now if I want to get into an Engrish argument they technically were asking if you spent a complete 10 days with anyone from there, or if you yourself had been there for 10 days. Since I was just in Korea I could have said no technically - but since they threaten up to 6 months in jail for lying on the form I figured I would go with the spirit of it all and just say Yes. Certainly got a funny look from the quarantine officer that was not expecting to see any yes forms on the flight from Korea! She then handed me a mask and encouraged me to wear it. Ugh. Transfer over to the Haruka express train to Kyoto was smooth and painless. The kind Japan Rail staff suggested buying a 1 day pass instead of paying full fare, saving about $10. Thank you. Had not known that trick before and all you have to do is show a ticket receipt that you are leaving Japan. Nice! Today - off to Biwa Lake and some more food!

first time flying ana and it was such a pleasant surprise from the get go. before the counters even…read moreopened, all the staff lined up ceremoniously in front, and one spokeperson stepped forward to thank all the passengers fir their business, waiting in line. then, they all bowed in unison. such a simple, thoughtful gesture, it made for a very good impression, it set the tone for the rest of the experience. even the passengers were on their best behaviour, no one rushed the gate, and everyone waited patiently for their boarding group to be called. unheard of! news flash: the 787-9 has bidets. yes, in economy. the washroom was clean, not claustrophobic, and even had a half-length mirror. little things, but they add up. normally on a long flight, or any flight at all, i would try and avoid going to the toilets on an aircraft. in economy, we were offered two meal options, which were already shown on the ana app, which came with a soft roll, garden salad, cream crackers, and potato salad, and get this, real cutlery. the food was just meh, but we were definitely well fed. ana clearly caters to dietary restrictions and you can even upgrade your meal ahead of time for an extra fee. the seats were surprisingly roomy, no knees to the back, no elbows in the ribs, and the person in front could recline without invading your space. we were given headsets for the inflight entertainment, a pillow, and a blanket, and the cabin crew were super attentive. the pilot got us to our destination safely and on time, what more can you ask for (maybe an upgrade to business class)? a few hours before landing, we got a light meal with a tuna sandwich roll (not a fan of this). the flight was about 70% full, takeoff and landing were smooth, and overall, it was a really chill, enjoyable flight. ana is definitely my first airline of choice, when flying to japan.

Another thing their utensils is not plastic compared to others; they give spoon, fork, knife and chopsticks. I enjoyed the food and had a good experience, spacious seating, have leg rest which short people like me appreciate much, updated movie lists and I even like the quality of their blanket. EVA don't deal with the great push by passengers to get on the airlines faster than everyone else in order to deal with insufficient space for carryons. Like most other airlines, they need to enforce their own rules about the size, weight and number of carryons. If they did, passengers would soon learn not to bring oversized items onboard and the practice would soon stop. It would make for a more civil and less stressful experience for everyone.

I also had enough points to have us fly first class on all 4 flights. Alaska gate service was consistently helpful and friendly, while there was some variation with inflight service. We were a little surprised with 3 of the flights in that it really wasn't a first class experience. It wasn't bad either, just meh. The stellar exception was the Stewardess on the YVR - SEA leg. She was fun, welcoming, and fun, all within this very short period of time. And we were also served! It's important to be seen, and this Alaska staff person went beyond that, for which we are very appreciative.
