After another area electrician dropped the ball on some electrical work that was supposed to be…read moredone prior to our move-in, our lovely realtor swooped in to suggest we get a quote from Thompson Electric instead as a trusted area company. Thompson provided us a quote that seemed reasonable given the extent of work - primarily replacement of the electrical panel - and I was able to schedule a time with them for the job to be done. They must be in demand because it was about 3 weeks out! On the scheduled day, the electrician promptly arrived early in the morning and set-up shop in our garage to complete the work. He kept me updated about when the electric would be shut off, when it was back on, checked all of the rooms to be sure he could notate which switches went to which areas of the house, and then explained the new panel configuration when the job was done. He was out there working for most of the day and even put up some painted board around the panel to hide that the drywall out there had to be cut for the work to be done. I was expecting we'd have to patch that up ourselves and now it looks quite nice!

David was able to schedule my job in a reasonable time frame and arrived on time the day of the job. He reviewed the list of repairs I had, and we together determined which ones could be completed within my budget for this day of work. David inspected, removed, and re-installed an existing toilet with a new hybrid toilet seal, snaked a bathroom sink, replaced the trap and seals, installed a new bathroom sink faucet, and also installed three new porcelain lamp holders w/switches in my basement. David also assisted me in selecting the new faucet for the bathroom. David was upfront about pricing and completed the tasks efficiently. He also gave me sound recommendations for a future job replacing a garbage disposal and lighting fixture. I really appreciate the time David took to explain options, give advice and provide recommendations as well as excellent service on the tasks he completed. David is professional, knowledgeable and courteous. I look forward to using Your Home Handyman in the future.

Fast forward a week (and I'm now on vacation) and I'm informed my garage has water seeping from under the garage door. Yep, a loose fitting came apart and water was running freely for a couple of days. My daughter came over and shut the pump off. Called Jennings and they sent a guy over to reconnect what they failed to secure (in my opinion). What a mess I found upon my return. They are unwilling to help with repairs after sharing my concerns and shock. So to you my friends, think on these set of facts before calling.

The owner came and gave me an estimate - he pulled the permit before he got here, so he knew what city codes were going to need to be adhered to. He was very friendly and professional. He showed me what was wrong with my old panel (water coming in), and explained everything he saw as we looked at everything. He explained I would need a grounding update, new panel, new meter box, and new service cable. He told me that per code, I have to have a CO detector by bedrooms and my circuit breakers labeled, but that I could do both myself and not be charged for that. He then listed line by line my entire quote and how much each item would cost. This experience was much different from the first quote I got from a different company: other company did not pull a permit, did not explain anything to me, and I had to wait for the quote from the company after the guy left, which was then not itemized. When I questioned the pricing compared to the first company I had, Fair explained what he thought would be the difference, but not once did he bash the other company. He also offered financing through my electric company, as they are licensed through First Energy. The four man crew showed up right on time on the scheduled date, and got right to work. All were extremely professional, courteous, and friendly. They even waved and said hi to my toddlers. Even when they thought I wasn't paying attention, they were professional. When they were done they cleaned up everything, and showed me the work. I was very pleased with the equipment, the installation, and the crew. I will use this company again should I ever need work done, and they will be the only electric company I recommend.

Now that it has failed for a second time, a technician admitted their previous methods were wrong and that they are now using better material. The technician also informed me that they didn't dig down deep enough the first time and they now added gravel. However, Blind & Sons charged me half-price for this new surface. I should not have to pay for a company's learning experience on a major investment. They need to stand by their workmanship and correct this structural failure at zero cost to the consumer. Before paying I asked the electrical manager, Michael Essary, to contact me, but I heard nothing. Beware, if you have a whole house generator installed, you will be responsible if the installation isn't done right, not Blind.
