Arriving in Port Bolivar from Galveston
    Bruce K.

I took the ferry across from Galveston and I want to answer the one question I got asked a lot: Yes, it is completely free or vehicles and passengers. It is considered part of the Texas highway system so it is funded by road and gas taxes. The ride over from Galveston took about 20 minutes and I spent them sitting in the driver's seat of my vehicle. I managed to get a front row spot on the ferry (it's all luck, no strategy) to watch the crossing. As much as that was nice, I do need to find a car wash to rinse off what will soon be dried salt from the spray. The ride was smooth, easy and simple. Just follow the directions of the workers, set your brake and look around. Yes, there is cell phone coverage the whole time you're crossing Bolivar Roads. There was not much of a wait this morning because I was here during off peak. When the ferry loads, they take medical exemptions first and then permit holders. So it can be a bit during peak hours. Exiting at Port Bolivar was uncomplicated. When the worker pointed at me, I went. I followed the signs and was on my way. Easy! [Review 889 of 2024 - 644 in Texas - 21918 overall]

very late, very dark, and pretty much tired of everything except cars on boats and sleeping in a proper bed; now and here the former leads directly to the latter and it was just a matter of waiting for the boat to come in. wind whipping across the channel makes for a long lonely wait as a half dozen or so cars and trucks and a lone tanker line up. my phone indicates Texas DOT rest area WiFi is available but it seems a tragic fiction as I never could get connected despite a fair signal - 12 of 17 bars - so it's just me switching between bad 'twangy-music' stations; more like boot-rap and hat-bands than true country, not that any of them are even wearing boots or hats and no, trucker caps and the like don't count nor will raggedy flannel shirts replace tailored rhinestoned jackets but this is a car ferry review... so we eventually get boarded and underway and the salt spray is covering everything and it looks icky out there... land fall on the other side and it's shift change so we wait for everyone to trade places before debarking and heading off into Galveston for late night refreshments and the all night Perry Mason channel on TV. not quite the experience it once was but maybe because it was daylight then and an early spring and generally a better place in time. still, the trip is worth the time if you can make time, maybe get sandwiches and sodas and do the round trip sitting top side on a warm sunny day... may not be the thrillest of thrill rides but what thrills is there will be so utterly worth it; there ain't much gets better than a slow boat ride with with someone special sitting there beside pitching and catching a little woo.

Decided to take this way because the time, effort, gas, and money it saves! On a Sunday mid afternoon, there was no line! There was a boat that just arrived when we pulled in, so it was a mere 5 minute wait for the cars to get off! My favorite thing is when they direct you to the front because the view is so beautiful! We could see the sun, water, and birds perfectly from the car. Also loved getting out to stretch in fresh air! Easily beats sitting in highway traffic. The workers were very direct and patient as they guided people into the different lanes. Would recommend going on the ferry, especially if it saves you time on your route!

Absolutely ridiculous wait time on a Sunday mid-morning. Why are only two ferries running? Over an hour and a half to get across. And we were lucky! By the time we boarded the ferry, there were three more full lines of traffic waiting to board than when we arrived. SMH...you've got five boats...doesn't make much sense to have three at the dock with this many people waiting...on the weekend...

I was celebrating a milestone birthday and wanted to cross something off my bucket list. I chose Enchantment of the Seas (EOTS) due to its timing and duration. Leading up to my sail date, I did some extensive research on this particular ship. For that reason, I knew what to expect otherwise I would have been extremely disappointed. Although EOTS belongs to the cruise line that owns the largest ship in the world, this ship is very dated and small. It's perfect for first timers, because you get to familiarize yourself with the cruising experience on a smaller, less overwhelming scale. I assume an experienced cruiser would only choose to go on EOTS because they want to avoid a big ship. And that's still 2700 guests compared to its newest, biggest sister that holds nearly 6700 guests. Despite the size, there were plenty of activities throughout the ship ranging from shows, to contests, to outside activities up on the deck. The main dining experience was very nice, but the food was mediocre for such a fancy atmosphere. I ate more at the buffet where I had Indian food everyday. Score! The crew was also very friendly in general, especially the room attendant. As for the fellow cruisers, I met some cool people along with a few total DBs. I blamed it on the alcohol. Would I go back on EOTS? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Only for the reasons mentioned earlier. I like Royal Caribbean cruise line and have already booked my next cruise with them again for later this year. It's on a bigger and newer ship with all the bells and whistles. Can't wait!!

Boarding 11:30-12:00 We had paid for expedited arrival and "The Key" has 2 dedicated security screening lanes vs 5 lanes for general boarding. General boarding was much faster than expedited lanes throughout the whole boarding process. When we finally boarded there was nothing to do but wait while our rooms were getting prepared. All decks are open at 1pm. No point in coming earlier than that. We tried to kill time walking around the boat. Drinks Although we had "The Refreshment" package, we spent $50 on 3 drinks within the first 3 hrs after boarding the ship. So we opted for the Deluxe Drink Package which was about $400 for 2 adults on a 4 day cruise. We did end up drinking more than usual to make it worth our "Deluxe" package. It was nice not to think about the cost every time we ordered. If you don't get the Deluxe package, which includes wine, beer and cocktails under $13. The casino has special times where mimosas for $2 or the Bottomless Brunch in My Fair Lady which includes limitless Mimosas as a tour of the galleys. Our Drink package gave us special cups with RFID chips that gave us access to soda machines. We're not soda people but it's a bit annoying to carry around bulky cups. Show your Sea Pass card and get whatever you want from the bar. Dining The main dining room is called My Fair Lady and it looks mostly english with modern chairs. It helps to make reservations. One night they had a Seafood Vol Au Vent, a melange of seafood wrapped in puff pastry in a delicate sauce. It sounds nice right? But in general the food in the Main Dining Room is generally bland and made with less than best ingredients. Means smaller portions, smaller shrimp, less than careful attention to execution of sauces. The saving grace of My Fair Lady is the wonderful staff. They make a mediocre meal palatable. One assistant waiter did magic tricks for my son and of course he loved that. One dinner, the pasta bolognese came out terribly wrong and the head waiter Noel, got a Mac and Cheese for my son even though it wasn't on the menu. The servers do go out of their way to make your evening special. I took a tour of their galley. Their kitchen facility is a 24hr operation and i was amazed at how sparkling clean their kitchen was even while in service. Super well organized and clean. For casual dining, they have Windjammers on the 9th Deck. No need for reservations. They have multiple stations on both sides as well as a gluten free section that's slower and less crowded seating. I appreciate that they had asian and indian options. I needed some variety and flavor. The best meals on the ship are at the Chop Grille. It does cost an additional $30 per adult. But worth the extra expense. Better quality meals. You'll find your 16oz Ribeye, or a Filet Mignon. A 16oz ribeye at steakhouse near our home is closer to $70 so it's a good deal to dine here. Service throughout all the dining areas of the ship was friendly. I think they go out of their way to be different and memorable. Oceanview Stateroom We had the option of bunk beds or queen made of 2 twin mattresses. We opted for the queen bed. The ship was made in 1997 and refurbished in 2012 and it still felt outdated. The room was felt tight. We were 2 adults and a 4yr old but the room had lots of drawer and organizer space. Wait til you try to take a shower! The curtain is cut to exactly the opening of the shower. So I was always trying to cover the ends to prevent the water from splashing on the toilet or floor. It's a losing battle. It's very much like the bathroom on a commercial plane. Next Time We would not pay for the Key package again, buy a separate internet package instead. Buy the Deluxe Drink Package before paying for drinks onboard. They don't add the credit of those drinks to the cost of the package so that was money lost. There wasn't much to do for the 4yr old except shiver in the cold kiddie pool. It would have been nice if they allowed for children in the indoor pool area before lunch and have it go back to adults only after lunch. So the kids had somewhere to go when it was cold outside. There were a lot of stubbornly shivering kids in the kiddie pool because it's the only place they could go.

This was our first cruise and Marchi provided us advice on all aspects of booking the cruise, including the factors to consider when selecting a cabin location, the arrangements we needed to make in advance, etc. The trip was completely seamless. The second trip was a two-week trip to Ireland and Italy. Our requests for this trip were extremely complex, since we wanted to pick up our son who was studying abroad in Ireland, travel to Florence Italy, and then come back and spend the last five days in Ireland. This trip involved several connecting flights in several different countries. We also wanted hotels that had fitness rooms, which is less common in Italy and Ireland. Due to our travel agent's extensive knowledge of Europe, we were able stay in one of the most beautiful, elegant, oldest, and most charming hotels in Florence. We were actually sad to leave that amazing hotel. The hotel had also upgraded us upon arrival at no cost. Our trip to Europe would not have been possible without their help. Our third trip was a weekend trip to Florida and a cruise to Cuba. They were extremely helpful on this trip. They provided us with all the additional paper work that is required to travel to Cuba. When we arrived for boarding the ship, we were ahead of the other passengers, since we already had the necessary paperwork. Marchi Travel Services is not only extremely knowledgeable, they are responsive to all of our numerous questions. We sometimes have a hard time deciding where we want to go and they are always extremely patient. They also provide information and guidance that is very beneficial. For our flight to Ireland, they managed to get us an amazing deal on our tickets. They watched the prices over a period of time and let us know when the tickets had reached a really great price and purchased the tickets at that price as soon as we confirmed with them. We have never been anything but completely happy with their services. Thank you Jo Anita and Marchi Travel Services! Rodney and Andrea
