Julie's vast knowledge of birds, seashells, crabs, oysters, and general Galveston history was the icing on the cake. I bought the Kayaking deal through Groupon for two! We bought this to enjoy kayaking as this was our first time. I called Beach Town Tours and confirmed the dates. Julie was very knowledgeable about the location and bay area and also suggested timing and attire requirements. We chose morning hours for Kayaking as this would be best to enjoy and also we could enjoy Galveston for rest of the day. After reaching the spot and signing the waiver, it was time for some safety briefing and know-how of Kayaking. Julie briefed us about kayaking and what to expect. She suggested we go with 2 seater as that would help us to navigate with ease with one helping other. We got into water after very short teaching and within 5 mins we were on our own with her watching us over off-course to make sure we are on route! Throughout our Kayaking, Julie kept us informed regarding the bay area flora and fauna and she was super knowledgeable. We stopped in the middle of the bay area where we could get down and see some shell formations. After a while we were back in the sea for some more kayaking and next 2 hours was pure fun! Time flew by and we were longing for more which Julie accommodated. We kayaked for some little extra time. I highly recommend Beach Town Tours for anyone looking for Kayaking experience or want to re-live the experience in bay area. Highly recommend! Wasn't sure what to expect of a kayaking tour and this was actually my first time ever kayaking. I had a blast! Julie was so knowledgable and has a great personality. We made our way through a little path which was fun to maneuver through, found hermit crabs (which you're able to take home as a souvenir) and since we got there for the 6:30 tour we were able to get beautiful pictures with the sunset in the background. She gave us great instructions to help us control our tandom kayak. She gave us 3 options for routes we could take with her personal suggestion. We took the beach coast to a little canal into a lake. Julie and Mike are absolutely fantastic tour guides and and buddies to have alongside while you're kayaking. We took the night kayaking tour (found off Groupon). We used a tandem kayak although there was an option for single kayaks as well. Although it was a 2-hour tour, my arms did not get exhausted. There were times I got tired but Julie and Mike always made sure we went at a speed that we were comfortable with, so I could take a rest (also since the waters were very calm, the kayak glided easily through the water and did not require as much exertion for paddling). They took us through a bay instead of the open beach side of Galveston facing the sea wall, which ended up being the best choice because the bay is sheltered from the wind so our trip was through pleasant calm waters. While we did not see many fish (only a couple small ones darting through the water), this is mostly due to the fact that a) it was nighttime and b) the bay has relatively murky waters. We paddled out towards the bird sanctuary island where Mike told us some kayak tours go, and then we rounded about through a small maze of reeds. We then took a little trip around the bayside houses (giant rich houses with boat docks) to admire the estates and talked about how we wish we were rich like that. All in all, a great tour for a fantastic price ($30 for two!). We were on the tour with just one other couple, which was nice because the tour was more personal and we got to spend more time talking to everyone. Next time I'm going back to Galveston, I'm definitely coming back for another tour. read more

Three friends and I took the sunset tour today, and it was essentially all of our first time. We bought the Groupon intending to use it for spring break, but since it rained, the owners let us reschedule for another day, but we didn't end up going until the end of the summer! They were totally cool with it. Julie led our tour and gave us a quick demo before we began. We didn't have to pick which tour until we got more out into the water, but decided to go on what I *think* is their bay tour. It was so much fun and I'm so glad we finally ended up doing this! Once we got out to South Deer Island, Julie gave us a mini bio lesson on the oysters and wildlife in the area, which was really interesting! The entire experience was great, and I would definitely do it again! The only negative thing was that there was annoying traffic on the way (since we picked the sunset tour, we had to drive through rush hour traffic) but that's definitely not their fault lol. More things to note: -they provide small boxes to put your car keys/phone in if you please -Julie offered to take photos of us at the end when we were almost back, as the sun was setting, from almost every angle possible -both Mike and Julie are really sweet and funny -don't forget sunscreen/bug spray and chapstick! Julie guided us (my 15-year-old son and me) around the bay and showed us spoonbills, willet, pelicans, oyster bars, mullet, the yellow billed oyster catcher, and gave us a history of Galveston Island as we paddled at a leisurely pace. Great experience! We were a little nervous since our group didn't have a lot of experience with kayaking, but we decided to go ahead and book the night time Festival of Lights tour. We are so glad we did! Mike and Julie were fabulous. Their what to bring/wear recommendations and directions to the launch point were great, and they provided everything we needed (kayaks, life vests, dry boxes, etc). Julie helped check us in and give instructions, and Mike was our guide. After a bit of a slow start (due to our own difficulties, no fault of theirs!), we were off! Mike kept an eye on us and made sure we were okay, while pointing out different things and offering easy to understand directions. The tour was set up well; there was a long-ish paddle followed by a nice break as we looked at the lights, a short paddle and more lights that we slowed down and looked at for another little break, and then the paddle back to the dock. We had so much fun and would absolutely recommend giving it a try even if you're new to kayaking. It was really neat to see the lights from the water, and Mike and Julie are both so nice and run a great tour. read more

We went on a tour at 5:30pm and had a blast! We weren't sure which tour to pick at first but Mike and Julie gave us options to tailor the tour to our liking. Mike was our guide and he was very nice and knowledgeable and pointed out features of the bay and wildlife for us. The tour was very laid back and paced perfectly that we were able to just relax in the kayak and watch the sunset at the end of the tour, which started at 5:30 sharp and ended a good 10 minutes after 7:30. Their equipment and kayaks were also clean, new, and above all, comfortable. The tandem kayak we had had nice seat pads with back support. Bought a Groupon for a kayak tour a couple of weeks ago and emailed the business to schedule an evening tour for 7/27. Got an email back that simply said our confirmation email was on its way. We never received the email. We called the morning of 7/27 and got voicemail at both numbers listed. Left a message requesting a call back to confirm our tour. We also sent an email. We never received a response and never heard from anyone after NUMEROUS calls throughout the day. Come 6:30 (the last tour of the day) we couldn't find the business location either. There's no address on their website and local businesses couldn't seem to direct us either. We never got our tour and are highly disappointed in the business. We would not recommend this to others and will be disputing the charge on our card to get our money back. read more

My son and I did a 2-hour tour in a tandem kayak. Julie was so great with my son and kept finding him hermit crabs to ride in the kayak with us during our tour.
