    Paints and Pints event 9/13/23
    Michelle L.

Came in for the first time to attend a Paint and Pints event on 9/13 with Gabby T. There is extremely limited parking; businesses across the street from there let people park only after 6PM. I parked on the street in front of the self-storage place from 6-8PM. That night, they also had a food truck Poco D Todo. "Not your average taco truck -- make sure to try the famous tacodillas (tacos with a crispy cheese skirt) and Todo Tots (loaded tater tots with your choice of meat." They also had giant quesadillas as the special item that evening. I went with one carne asada tacodilla and one carnitas tacodilla, which was ready in about ten minutes. The marinade/salsa was interesting in a good way, couldn't exactly place what the flavor was that made the tastebuds tingle (other than the cheesy skirt). I tried their Porch Lite lager which was at 4.8% ABV and on the hoppy side. For the remainder of the class, I had one of their craft sodas/root beers. Gabby got their Sour (either rhubarb or cherry?). They also had Nitty Cider, a smoky Porter, coconut Imperial Stout, Pale Ale, IPA, and a dry hopped Saison. Great bar service, and you could sample anything on draft. The painting class was held indoors, with a big industrial fan to keep that area cool by the bar. Dog-friendly inside and on the patio too. The class itself was led by instructor Liz and the subject/theme was to paint a Saguaro [Cacti] Sunset scene. Paints and Pints is women-owned and always held at local craft breweries, sign up on Eventbrite. $5 less for kids or designated drivers, otherwise $30 for 21+ which includes the class and one beverage. I'm not in East Sac often, but Porchlight was a nice little spot!

Porchlight is my neighbor brewery and it just has this comfort place in my heart. Good beer, great staff and the food trucks are always the best! Location is on 57th street and parking is either street parking or the 7 spots they have in the parking lot. Riding your bike is the best bet! Porchlight is nestled on the edge of East Sac and brings is a great community vibe. Ages range from probably 21-60. Always a kind and welcoming environment. Not overrun by colleague kids which is always assumed since it's near Cal State.

Came here after visiting Kau Kau across the street for a nightcap and while I enjoyed the vibe of the place I wasn't a fan of the beer. I'm not an IPA/dark beer kind of gal so I went with the ones listed in the photo and they were just okay. I would go back to enjoy fun times with friends but the beer I could do without.

Great vibes, chill atmosphere & bartenders are awesome! Let's not forget the great beer. This is definitely a gem of a brewery in Sacramento! They have trivia nights and food vendors on certain dates which is a great plus!

    Beer flight

Let me start off by saying that I'm not super into beers but I'm always open/down to try them. I had some time to spare so I decided to go to a brewery and get their flight. It came with 6 - 4oz beers and was about $18. Pretty cheap and I like the fact that I got to choose 6 not the typical 4. Me and friend split the flight so I chose 3 and he chose 3. I chose the Cider, Sidewalk Smooches and Straw Cherry beer. I prefer sours and cider. The strawcherry was my favorite. Pretty sour but it really did taste like strawberries and cherries. The cider was delicious, tasted just like cider and the sidewalk smooches was my least favorite but still good. Please note they do have seating inside and outside. Seating inside is a bit limited but it wasn't busy when I went and I was able to sit inside. Outside has heat lamps so it's not super cold but the tables are not covered so you will get wet if its raining. They also have a few board games you can play at the table.

This is the first time I've been back to this brewery in years. They've opened up the space to blend the inside with the patio outside in a way that gives it a nice open cantina vibe. In an era that tries to maximize seating space to emphasize openness and good airflow, this achieves the goal. This place likes to overhop beers. It seems to be geared towards the IPA extra bittering sensibilities side of things. This is a a positive thing if you're a fan of the IPA train. Not so much if you prefer more balanced beers. (Even the kölsch is bitter.) After trying a very bitter Marzen and a pretty hoppy porter, I settled on enjoying a nice, not over sweet blackberry and cherry cider that they had on tap. There is a small parking lot. There's street parking. Do not park in the lots of nearby businesses. Some have signage that discourages brewery patron parking.

Porchlight Brewing, Sacramento, CA - August 2, 2023

Porchlight Brewery - Sacramento , CA - August 2, 2023 After a late morning/early afternoon 3 1/2 hour session of guitar playing with my good friend, I got a quick burrito at a local fast food Mexican spot (something like Alberto's) in Carmichael and then headed out in search of some crowler beer cans for my collection, and beer for me. First stop, High Water Brewery, near 65th Street. They were not open yet at 2 pm, so I moved on and landed at Porchlight a couple miles away. I had been to this location five or six years ago when it was under a different name and ownership. Beer was good as I recall, but the previous owner was clueless about his clientele and destroyed his brand with stupid political statements that turned people away. Parking here is a challenge. There are 4 or 5 spots in their lot and limited parking on the street. At 2:15 in the afternoon, I had to park about 75 yards away and didn't see a lot of other open spots around. There were less than 10 people at the brewery when I arrived, so not sure who owned all the other cars on the street. The brewery is cozy, with a nice bar, a few indoor tables, a video game, TVs on the wall, covered outdoor seating, and a nice display with swag (hats, shirts, beer paraphernalia, etc). I immediately recognized Cassandra behind the bar. She had been the bar keep over at Logoff Brewery nearby where I live in Rancho Cordova. So it was great to see her and catch up a little bit on the local beer scene. Normally an IPA drinker, I was in the mood for something a little lighter on this hot summer day, so I decided to do the Porch Lite Lager. Good choice! Cold, light, and refreshing. At 4.8% ABV, I think I'll have another! My good friend Dave called a little while later to ask what I was up to. As it turned out, he was only a couple miles away, so he showed up a short time later and we had two more! I love the fact that you can get lower ABV beers to enhance your drinking/socializing session. And yes, I did wind up with two crowlers and brewery stickers for my collection!

Outside, but they were finishing up. I missed out on the photo when they were full steam

Towards the End of Summer Events. This is the first time we have visited this Brewery and we were pleasantly pleased. Today they had a Barks and Brews event. This was a hit!! The Brewery had an Awesome selection and the PourOligists (I made up that name because they were so professional) were extremely busy today. Most everyone that attended had very well behaved pets and it was a pleasure being around them. I have to say the Barkcuteriebybrynna was a hit like always. Bryanna and Vinny are so fun to be around and when you walk up they welcome you like a friend. So Nice! We also had homemade Pizza by Chavious Pizza. You could see and taste this was made out of love and she probably started by making this for her own family. Like I always say.... Goood or bad I will always give a review on my personal experience. For this event being so busy for the employees and POP UP vendors, they did an amazing job!

Wandered in as part of our I5 journey south from Seattle. We had chosen a restaurant nearby, but also wanted to sample some of the Sacramento beer scene. We hit the jackpot! We sat at the bar and were engaged by the tap room manager. He was curious about our trip, we were curious about his taps, so we swapped stories and tasted their offerings. All of them! Great array of flavors and alch content and we left happy moving onward to our dinner. I hope these guys continue their success. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We left with a 32oz crowler for the road.

I recommend. HAS Military Veterans Discount.

A little bit of beer is a nice feeling. No complaints. Sacramento State has an Army ROTC Program and an Air Force /Space Command ROTC Program. We have a young cousin living at home with his Veteran parents while he currently attends Sacramento State University on a 3-year Active Duty ROTC Department of Aerospace Studies scholarship to get a Computer Engineering undergraduate degree. Less than 20% of AFROTC cadets are on scholarships and they are highly competitive. Scholarships usually provide for tuition, books, lab and incidental fees, and a tax-free monthly stipend ranging from $300-$500. This singular business is close to Sac State. Our cousin took us here for drinks with some of his ROTC buddies. Over and over 95% of current and past Military Personnel and their families say that they notice when businesses are "Military-Friendly" or "Veteran-Friendly" and that an Active Duty and Veteran Discount is what gives an immediate and positive first impression to any business. That also means 95% of current and past Military Personnel and their families notice when companies are NOT "Military-Friendly" "Veteran-Friendly" and when companies don't have an Active Duty and Veteran Discount and that gives an immediate and negative first impression to any business. The owners of this business like their Freedom so they have a Military and Veterans Discount as a thank you to Veterans with a publicly disclosed daily Veteran Discount which provides resource to ensure Veterans (rare 7% of the population) and GIs (rare one-half of one percent of the population) opportunity to participate in American Dream Veterans and GIs' sacrifices have made possible for 100% of the population. I appreciate their COVID consciousness. I really liked that this business has opened themselves up as an indoor-outdoor business in response to Covid 19. Has misters in Summer and heat lamps in Winter. You're allowed a taste before you buy Felicitous board games are available Dogs are allowed The customer service was adequate Prices were average Place was clean We were told food is from a variety of Food Trucks who have this cool business on their route. Every Tuesday is an All-Day Happy Hour Has $12 Growler Fills on Wednesdays Thursdays are Trivia Night Compellingly artful, the clientele was an eclectic and delightful mixture of smart, interests, ages, professions, and well-mannered people and dogs. We had: DJ Ginger Snaps IPA - New England w/ginger --Everybody's got to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer. Dwight Smokem Porter - Smoked --there is only one game at the heart of America and that is baseball, and only one beverage to be found sloshing at the depths of our national soul and that is beer. Candlelight and Roses Cider - Blackberry Cherry Nitty's Cider -Hard Cider has my heart this Winter for what a piece of work it is for it is particularly noteworthy and impressive. What this sui generis business did in stark contrast to many businesses I've frequented lately: Was disabled-friendly. No automatic gratuity was added to our bill. We just don't pay any added automatic gratuity or merchant fees as we pay only for what we had bargained for upfront and received. No one here offered to commit fraud to reward us, pay us or compensate us for posting 5 star reviews of this business. No one here hassled us about my Service Dog or the Veterans' accouterments I adorn her with lavishly. I don't think anyone even noticed my Service Dog entering or leaving. I'll be back.

It happens. My friend was going to log into DMV just so she can show a valid ID the bartender but another woman working came up exclaiming they can not accept that and she will not get a drink. My friend did not argue about it and my other friend and I got our beers and sat down. We just wanted to spend time and catch up. My friend with the expired ID did not even take a sip of any drinks and respected the policy, the woman that we talked to earlier about the ids then proceeded to come up to us and say that we were sharing drinks, yelling and being very hostile. We were all confused because in no way, my friend even touched or drank any of the drinks. She insisted to call the cops. We then asked her if she had any evidence such as video footage and she said she did not have any access to that and she did not have footage. She said we were breaking the law and she will get the police involved for underage drinking. She was being extremely hostile. THANK YOU BY THE WAY SHE IS IN HER 30s BUT BESIDE THE POINT THEY REFUSED TO PULL UP THE FOOTAGE AND CORNERED US WHEN WE WERE DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. We even encouraged to call the police then she started back tracking. Their lead came in. We again, asked for the footage and he then, unrelated, said they are on the verge of closing rather than taking any form of accountability or apologizing for how his colleague was treating us. We asked for a refund and would leave, we were so uncomfortable. He then proceeded to say we did not pay for the drinks and I had to pull up my credit card statement to even prove it, which is absolutely ridiculous. I got our drinks and paid/ closed the tab before even sitting down. We asked to talk to a manager again. Mind you, we asked previously, and got the lead. The manager just asked if we were from the Bay and shook our hands instead of actually doing anything about the situation. I saw her hug the woman that was accusing after we were leaving which is absolutely ridiculous. Why would you encourage that type of behavior to your staff. Profiling in 2025 is insane. I feel bad for my friends. I feel extremely uncomfortable. Discriminating and accusing just because we are the only POCs in the room is so embarrassing. DO BETTER- NOT EVEN AS AN ESTABLISHMENT BUT JUST AS HUMAN BEINGS.

Overall it was a great visit-I love these guys and gals who are running this brewery-they are all so friendly and welcoming and they are serving a superior product and the pride they have in their beer and food shows-I am so happy this brewery is a part of my world now and I can't wait to go back.

They offer a large inside and outside area to relax. There is a table where you can help with a puzzle. We walked up to order and they had an interesting selection of beers. We ordered a flight each to try several beers. They also offer some food options but we had already eaten lunch. We found a couple of comfy chairs but there was a large birthday party going on which the people were blocking the area and were quite noisy so had to move to another area. The beers were good and ordered a pint. There were several others I wanted to try so will have to go back to check them out.

Let's start with the positives: the service, the vibes, and the space are wonderful! I can't comment on the food. The beer though. I got a West Coast Pilsner, we literally came here because that is my favorite style of beer. The beer looked like a maple milkshake. It was murky with a grey-brown tint. Badly oxidized, and tasted horrible. I sent it back and got a lager...it looked good visually, it was bright anc clear. Then I tasted it and it was bursting with the buttery flavors of diacetyl. This beer had a slick, buttered popcorn jelly belly finish, rather than a crisp, mild hoppy bite. Maybe their ales are better than there lagers, but I didn't want to send back yet another beer. Maybe I should've though.

All beers appeared to be craft, I didn't see any mainstream beers like Bud or Coors. They also offered a few craft soda options and plenty of water stations. They outdoor seating in the front or a nice large back patio as well as a few spots inside. We opted for the back patio to enjoy the random cat that was lurking around. It does appear the back patio is dog friendly as well. We ordered the prosciutto and fig pizza, an OG pepperoni and the garlic breadsticks. It did take longer than I expected for our food, but we did come right at opening so maybe morning prep took some time. We really liked the prosciutto a fig, the balsamic glaze and the sweetness of the agave paired well. I do wish the garlic bread was more garlicky. It was more of a cheesy bread in my opinion, which was still delicious. We will definitely be back. And what's even better is Gunters is right down the street so you can enjoy a sweet treat after a nice meal and ice cold beer.

I saw people bringing their kids who played around at their backyard area, people studying at the front area, couple singles are mingled at the backyard seatings. Foods and drinks are decent size and good price. Service is pretty fast. I recommend their IPA and seltzer. For foods: pizza is their best. It was thin crust and plenty of condiments, served warm. Parking: free limited street parking Restroom: decent Ambience: casual
