The inside is set up for vendors to sell finished gourds, others to sell the equipment and supplies we need and some with dried, raw gourds (are many more outside under the trees, too). There are several classrooms inside the building and outside-for the burning and carving classes. They have a small cafe to buy breakfast and lunch run by the members and a bar (closed off during the show...darn) that members frequent at night when show closes. The thing is I live in Christmas, FL on a lovely 4 acre farm with rescued animals. and literally just was trying to get away from all the mind and soul obliterating situations that i've been consistently having to deal with for over a month. In my nearly 40 yrs of life i have had many professions including working out in the lettuce, grapes, cilatro, bell peppers etc in 110+ degree weather. I know a hard days work. I would do it all with a smile on my face, waking before the dawn, driving an hour to a random unmapped field and getting tennis elbow from the repetitive motions. I also worked for Gerald Busch at North University Park Prop Management after I went to college. His set up is incredible and so inviting and inclusive. he has his office open 24/7 with a comp and printer so one could easily print their homework on way to school. His props are 1 block north of the University and many students are international so I was able to converse with many types of people which I am eternally grateful to the man for that. he also always has a pot of rice and beans going for the "starving" students, a law library, a very helpful handyman who has been on board for 20+ years named Roberto! I know how a great operation is run. It starts with treating humans with human decency, inclusiveness and making allowances for things. After having a VERY NEGATIVE experience at Beach Place Guesthouse a couple miles away. A worker of theirs slapped my butt, said they would hire me to help complete an updated handicap restroom. I showed them the type of worker I am and cleaned up the drywall trash with my bare hands. They said they would be to my house at 7 a.m since I am without a car and would drive me the 40 miles to the job site. at 7 I called them they said they would come at 10am. at 10 I called and GAVE THEM MY ADDRESS (oh no!!, big mistake). THey then asked of I NEEDED FLOORING DONE?? I was supposed to be getting paid! they were drinking many cervesas on the job and assaulted me and said verbally abusive things but since I really desperately need a job I just pushed his hand away telling him not to do it again. This morning the manager came in and had zero minutes and seconds to talk to someone who paid $320 for 1 NIGHT when I could have just as soon been at my beautiful abode with loving animals. she was SIOO RUDE! i could NOT believe it!! She didn't want to hear my suggestion that a ramp should be added to the back entrance. (I've seen bathrooms upgrade to handicap with my uncle and grandmother so I knew this.) I guess she doesnt care about disabled people ,how cruel. Maybe something to do with her creepy baphomet statue thats eyes follow you. Well, thinking I had gained a true confidant in Jenni I called Surf Studio and talked to Flo who said she appreciated my glowing 5 star review and to definitely go walk the mile or 2 with all my gear in the 90ish temp to talk to Jenni who seemed to have little time for me as a paying guest. well my friend was going to meet me there to help with all my luggage (surfboard puppets, clothes etc) she pretty much said i should stay away from the guest who are paying "good money" and she understood i had some kind of altercation with my mother when I had divulged very confidential and personal info to the woman. It has a large deck which is beach front with several umbrella tables, a fire pit as well as high bar chairs for scenic beach views. There is a pool as well as outside showers. This is a clean, friendly, modest hotel. The rooms vary from a small kitchenette to a full kitchen, both equipped with utensils. If you are looking for a place with an outside bar, large loud parties with a DJ, games on the beach, mini bar in the rooms, restaurant located on premises, this is not your place. On the other hand, if you are looking for a quiet setting, laying on the deck with a cool breeze, with friendly faces (AND dog friendly) this is the place for you. They also have surf boards and boogie boards for guests use FOR FREE. I highly recommend this family owned business!

If I could give this establishment negative 5 stars, I would. My husband and I had an incredibly…read moredisappointing experience at this outdated and falsely advertised inn. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this place does not live up to its advertisement claims or standards. The check-in process was handled by a female clerk who was extremely curt and rude. It was our first impression of Cocoa Beach, and honestly, it left a terrible taste. To make matters worse, we saw a woman with a teenage child checking in before us--despite the inn claiming to be an adults-only establishment. The clerk gave a dismissive speech about keys and parking passes, and when it was our turn, she asked, "You heard all of that correct, so I don't have to repeat it?" as if we were bothering her. She completely ignored a comment about her adorable fur baby walking behind the counter, which felt dismissive and unprofessional. We received a metal key (not a key card), and when we arrived at our room, the smell hit us--like mothballs or old linens. There is no elevator to access the second-floor rooms, so we had to carry our luggage up two flights of tiled stairs. The hallway was cluttered with construction boxes, which made the walk to our room less than welcoming. The biggest letdown was the so-called "beach view." The property falsely claimed to be on the beach, but the view was obstructed by tall brush and a parking lot, requiring a walk through the grounds, pool area, over a wooden bridge, and through brush to reach the beach. It was far from the direct, scenic beach access promised. The room itself was tiny--an efficiency size with a ceiling-mounted modem that blinked neon green all night, keeping us awake. The bed was the hardest and most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. The bathroom was minuscule; I could touch both walls with arms outstretched, which is astonishingly small for two adults. Their "free breakfast" was a complete sham. What they called "free" was more like a snack bar limited to a muffin, a tiny piece of quiche, a slice of toast (if you ask), a small shot of orange juice, and some coffee. The poached eggs and hot water setup for cooking eggs was ineffective--the water was never hot enough to boil. The toaster was broken, and the entire breakfast experience was a joke. The property was in severe need of updating, with construction materials cluttering the hallways, and the overall cleanliness and maintenance lacking. The parrots kept at the inn were beautiful but seemed stressed and shy, likely due to the poor conditions and neglect. Overall, this inn was an unpleasant, outdated, and misrepresented place that I would strongly advise avoiding. My husband had booked this inn for our 16-year wedding anniversary through Expedia and USAA. Since we did not get a name from the clerk who checked us out and took our keys, we were unable to get a refund. This location was so horrible, that we are fine with not getting a refund as at least we were able to stay at a better location for the remaining 3 nights we were staying in Cocoa Beach. This inn charges top dollar to stay here for false advertisement and to sleep in a broom closet that are old & extremely outdated, uncomfortable. After just one night, we checked out early and moved to a reputable hotel nearby, which turned our stay in Cocoa Beach from terrible to enjoyable. Save yourself the frustration/money and look elsewhere for accommodations.

It's definitely a "no-frills" kind of place (i.e. no hairdryer, no shampoo and just a tiny bar of soap); however I did find a lot of benefits, including a fair price. Plenty of hot water readily available, a comfortable bed, cold adjustable air conditioner, quality flatscreen HD TV set, and parking close to my room were all big pluses. I was a bit surprised though I needed to handover $15 cash for the room key deposit, but no big deal. I just wish I would've known that before getting there so I would've been better prepared. There was a bank just down the road though so it wasn't a problem. Both gentlemen that worked at the front desk were very helpful and friendly; the hotel has a very spacious parking lot that seems to be well lit and felt safe. There is a nice area not too far away downtown that I believe they call "The Village," that has quite a number of little shops and restaurants. Definitely worth checking out. One other thing to mention is that the woman I spoke with on the phone originally when I set up my reservation was very pleasant as well, and I believe she may have been the one I spoke to when I called back after my trip in search of my prescription sunglasses. Unfortunately I must've misplaced them elsewhere, but she was very willing to check with housekeeping and around the area of the motel on my behalf. Overall, I felt like it was a nice weekend stay, and I will definitely consider the Dixie Motel again the next time I'm in Cocoa.

Bonus was the amazing entertainment provided my Mike Johnson and his percussionist. My wife and I enjoyed some dancing and singing along to some of our favorite songs . The bottle cap game was a hoot watching as people got their name called out to let them know they were not going home with the big prize. The Lodge offer darts, pool, golf, karaoke, Bingo, and much more to keep us off the streets. I am so happy we were invited to belong to this wonderful lodge.
