I used to always get meat from Stater Bros or Costco since moving here in 2021, therefore my expectations weren't that high to begin but this little butcher shop definitely exceeded them. I've bought tomahawks, Dino ribs, porterhouses, tasajo strips, flank ribs, flap meat, ribeyes, chicken quarters, wings, shrimp and I've even tried their cream, queso fresco, sauces and chicharrones. Never once have I been disappointed and now after coming here I can't settle for anything less. I tired SB meats again once because they had "tasajo" and it was rubber, chewy and had no flavor. Meanwhile the tasajo at Don Peters is soft, buttery, and is delectable. I also prefer their unmarinated stuff because I love to use my own spices and stuff but their stuff isn't bad either. It's just a personal preference. I understand the prices aren't cheap and not everyone can afford to get meat here often but if you can budget it in, I recommend it because you get more flavor and better cuts than anywhere nearby. I will say they don't have much staff but you just need to be patient as that's the norm for small mom-and-pop shops. It's very clean and tidy too. I also appreciate the selection of marinades, seasoning and other stuff they offer like tortillas, tortillla chips, charcoal, beers, sodas, salsas, chips, jerky (the jalapeño one is great) and typical Mexican snacks like nuts, candies and candies sauces. Plus the little grocery items (cilantro, tomato, peppers, onion, garlic and limes; typical for any carne asada or grilling activity). They also have ice pops and sorbets which my kids love. Overall they offer great quality cuts, decent prices, large variety of items and a good selection of meats and meat types. The staff are kind and the older man always greets my kids and offers stickers to them. I always feel welcome and appreciated as a customer and I also like that they offer a small discount for points. I'm holding out on my discount to get myself a wagyu steak

This place instantly became one of my favorites after just one visit. From the moment you walk in, the whole vibe hits you--the moody, neon-lit ambiance sets the tone perfectly. It feels elevated, a little edgy, and honestly just the kind of spot you want to spend your night at. The music is curated so well. Not too loud, not too mellow--just the right balance where you can vibe, have a conversation, and still feel the energy of the room. You can tell they actually care about the experience, not just throwing a playlist together. Now let's talk about the drinks... because that's really where they shine. Every cocktail feels intentional and crafted with care. You can taste the quality immediately--nothing watered down, nothing basic. They have a really cool mix of classic cocktails and modern twists, and even the familiar drinks feel elevated. It's the kind of place where you want to try something new every round because you trust the bartenders know exactly what they're doing. Service was on point too. Friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. They took the time to explain drinks and made great recommendations, which made the whole experience even better. I came in not knowing what to expect, and left already planning my next visit. If you're in Uptown Whittier and looking for a spot with great energy, amazing cocktails, and a full vibe--The Vandalist is it. Thank me later

It feels like the best of both worlds. But my absolute favorite is the Spicy Gabagool. It's is balanced perfection. Sweet, spicy, creamy, salty, just all the flavors you could want. All the sandwiches are served on freshly made bread thanks to Hey Brother, and take the sandwiches up to the next level. Being that this place is popular, it's definitely a good idea to order online and take it to go. There are a few tables out front but they fill up quickly, and you're just kind of eating at a table on the sidewalk. But it's worth it.

Keep in mind I ordered around 12:50pm and the sandwich was ready at 1:45pm. I ordered the Spicy Gabagool Sandwich, and there were barely any mixed greens as compared to other reviews & the menu photo (I love my veggies)! The meats were yummy, but they did not stand out to me/didn't taste anything special. Unfortunately, the same goes for the bread. However, I did like the packaging of the sandwich and everything in the sandwich tasted well together; the chile spread, burrata, hot honey, pickled onions, meats.. the spice level is definitely tolerable; I didn't need water at all. It was more of a small kick. I also tried their lemon crumb bar and it was very delicious! If anything I would come again to try more of their unique baked goods. Overall, I enjoyed the ambiance of the shop. It is quite small and there are many people waiting for their order inside. There is only outdoor seating, which is scarce.

Melontini (4/5) - This drink was spirit forward and came with a cute melon ball on the side. I slightly wish it was a little fruitier. Wagyu meatballs (5/5) - the appetizer came with three medium-sized Wagyu meatballs on pieces of garlic toast. The meatballs were delicious and a great starter to our meal. Caesar salad (4/5) - this was your classic Caesar salad that accompanied our pasta perfectly. Fried zucchini (5/5) - I love that the zucchini was sliced and crispy. The breading to zucchini ratio was perfect and paired perfect perfectly with a marinara sauce. Short rib pappardelle (5/5) - this pasta dish was the absolute highlight of our meal. In order comes with two servings, which is more than enough pasta for a second meal for two people. The short rib was flavorful and tender, and the Alfredo sauce and fresh pasta were amazing. Cannoli (4/5) - the cannoli was a simple way to top off our delicious Italian meal. I like that on one end there were chocolate chips and the other end there was pistachio.
