Pop-local is a great collection of so many locally made craft and food items. If you are in the area this is a great way to check out so many great makers in one shop. Great souvenirs, gift ideas, home decorations, and snacks in one place! Definitely check it out!

There's a wide range of styles and items to look at. We could have stayed much longer, but my budget insisted I stop buying EVERYTHING. The owner was super nice and engaging. Eccentric is absolutely the right word for this fantastic little vintage boutique on Main Street,…read morethat has been here for...quite some time. The hand-selected articles of clothing, hats, jewelry and accessories available here are certainly quirky, but also fashionable and functional. Whomever curates the collection here has an eye for the theatrical and flamboyant; many of the items here could easily double as Halloween costume components. There's no shortage of vintage clothing stores in the Portland metro area, but many of them charge truly outrageous prices for scraps and rags that only the most unaffected urchin would be caught dead wearing. Thankfully, that's not the case here: there's something for everyone, from casual to formal, grounded to glamorous, simple to sophisticated. Prices range from reasonable to unbelievably cheap (they even have a $1 rack with clothes that don't suck?! how), making the Urban Eccentric a budget-friendly bargain hunter's dream.

So many stores do not account for the rotund and the stocky so bye bye Target, later days Wal Mart (of all places you would think Wal Mart would cater to the hefty), not in a million years Nordstroms! When I need to get duded up I am off to the center for retail epic fail, Jantzen Beach Mall. A few places help keep this monument to a bad economy afloat and one of those beacons in the gloom of this Mall is Casual Male. It is a clothing shop for the rest of us, the ones who need their own zip code, the ones who turn sideways to get through turnstiles but it doesn't help, the ones who can't fit in coach seats but pretend we do. In my case I was facing the fat guys worst nightmare, being on television. Thankfully it is local cable access so hardly anyone will be watching but still, as a candidate for public office you have to look your best. They say television adds ten pounds but luckily for us fat guys what's another ten pounds, honestly. In we walked, the Wife and I, and we met Dawn, a fat guys best friend. Dawn is the single most knowledgeable person I have ever met about dressing the pear shaped. She was amazing and worked so hard to do the near impossible. Make me look mature and respectable. It took a while to nail down the outfit and we felt bad about taking up so much for her time but she kept telling us we didn't need to apologize and that she was enjoying doing her job. I want Dawn cloned and installed in every retail outlet in America. Casual Male isn't just all about service, they really do have wonderful clothes. Hip & cool stuff, athletic stuff, from dressy to, well, casual, as the name says. They even have Beatles shirts in my size! I thought for years that Paul and Ringo just didn't like big men, now I know it's just American retailers. Cologne? They have it. Watches? They have some nice ones of those too. Belts, shoes, socks, suspenders and swim wear too. Heaven. Morbidly obese heaven.

They claim it is about customer traffic. As i was standing in line to regretfully buy some shoes since the place down the way wasn't open yet, and I already had to subject myself to this treatment - a man who was stopped and told to wait just turned around and left. That is the correct response to being subjected to such a system. There were two security guards and one employee. When I stopped by the changing rooms to ask a question there was no employee in sight. Every news station or documentary crew should come and film this place - it is literally the worst way to treat customers or run a store I have ever seen. You want to feel welcomed and valued when going to a store, here you will be profiled and inconvenienced. What a joke. Jantzen Beach is a tough location and the city has done it no favors, but if you gotta stoop to levels this low - just close your store.

He's an avid wood tuner and his work shop (the garage) gets mighty cold during winter. His latest love is the Duluth Fire Hose Fleece-lined Relaxed fit pants. The pants have a microfleece lining that is very warm yet surprisingly lightweight and the large, deep cargo pockets resist punctures from the tools he uses. The 100% cotton canvas repels stains and water as well. One note: they wash extremely well but are very heavy when wet and a wimp like me has to transfer them from the washer to the dryer. No complaints, just a warning. LOL His other current favorite are the flannel shirts. There's a whole collection of them ranging from relaxed fit to untucked to fleece-lined and they are all on sale right this very minute. The brick and mortar store has deals you can't get online and vise versa so it's always a good idea to check both options. Many have concerns about the area where the store is located. And, yes, there have been high crime issues associated with the Jantzen Beach shopping center and many of the stores surrounding Duluth Trading Company are in fact closing. Homelessness is rampant in this part of town but the store is safe to shop in and I would suggest just being more vigilant about your surroundings. It's the times we live in.
