Strolling down Front Street, a friendly employee greeted us outside of Pop-Kies as we passed and kindly offered a sample of a mix of cheddar and Caramel popcorn. The sample was really good, and the employee was delightful to talk to - very funny! The shop smelled delicious inside, and they had a number of flavors from which to choose. Got a wiff of popcorn in the air so went in a grabbed a triple mix (Chicago) of cheddar, butter and caramel, a bag of hot jalapeno, and will pickle. The triple mix was good, exactly what I expected. The dill tasted just like eating a pickle, my son wanted it. I opted for the "hot" jalapeno, I've had hotter peanut butter cookies. Had a nice smell, nice taste, but no heat. Typical tourist trap. Dropped $20 on 3 small bags of popcorn. Been there done that. read more

Popcorn yum!!! I know old ladies love this stuff- as there was a line, but I do too so in the line we jumped . There are hundreds of different and unique flavor a of popcorn here. Weird ones too. I ate a sample of the dill and I ended up purchasing a bag. They hooked me. I saw that all the old ladies were buying their best seller- which I forgot what it's called, maybe Chicago? But it's a mixture of cheese, buttered and caramel corn. So of course I had to get some. Soooo good! You really can't go wrong with popcorn- especially flavored popcorn! We will be snacking like mofo's tonight- count on it! :) If you are in the area, stop by for some delicious fresh popcorn. I'm sure you will find a flavor or five that you will just love! The last couple times I've been in the area, I've stopped into Pop-Kies. The place is easy to miss, but if you happen to make it in, it's a bit of a hidden gem - as long as you like popcorn (I guess that would be a prerequisite of enjoying a popcorn shop). The place is lined with all kinds of varieties of popcorn. They have some really unique flavors, from Buffalo Wing, to Hot Chili Pepper, Dill Pickle, Ranch, Garlic Parmesan, Wasabi Soy, candied, chocolate, etc. You get the idea...there are a ton of flavor options. The one I really enjoyed this time was the Wasabi Soy. Sounds a little weird, it is a little weird, but if you like wasabi, it's got a nice kick to it. From what we were told by the gentleman who was working is that they do their pricing by weight, so the normal flavored popcorns are cheapest, but if you start layering on fudge or candy or whatnot, it's going to get more expensive. Overally, I feel like the prices are moderate being that it's located in downtown TC, but I did make the decision to avoid some of the popcorns simply because I didn't want to spend $12 (or whatever it was) for a bag of popcorn. I think we ended up walking out with 6 or 7 decent sized bags of popcorn for around 25 bucks. They had a deal going on - I believe it's permanent where if you buy 5 you get one free, or something to that effect. Anyway...it's definitely worth checking out especially if you like popcorn or if you're feeling like expanding your popcorn repertoire. read more

Pop-kies is a must-stop for us when we are in Traverse City. Sue is a TC treasure. The popcorn is fantastic but Sue is the reason to return. My friend Marilyn and I visited Pop-kies a while back and met Sue then. We returned over the weekend and brought a friend with us. Sue remembered our first visit, right down to what we wore! She made a comment about another establishment in town and on her recommendation we visited there, too. Pop-kies has a great product, but what sells it, is passionate employees like Sue. read more

The owner let us try multiple flavored corn, birthday cake flavor is amazing. And reasonable prices along with candy that's made by Amish will have me coming back for a large tin of the popcorn!! Dill pickle popcorn...that is all you need to know about this place. I was shopping in a store nearby and the cashier and I started talking about pickles (it happens when you buy a pickle related magnet). She mentioned that the popcorn place next door has the best dill pickle popcorn. I've never heard of such a thing so I knew I had to try it. Luckily, they had samples of this flavor and once I tried, I knew I had to buy. I ended up buying 2 bags of dill pickle popcorn PLUS the dill pickle popcorn seasoning that I can use at home. They had a lot of other quirky flavors like beer and buffalo chicken wing to name a few. I did notice that you can order their popcorn online and that they will ship to you...score!! read more

I love popcorn, so going in here was a given when we stumbled upon it... I encourage you to do the same. Stop on in here, try a few samples and buy yourself a little bag of popcorn for munching as you stroll the downtown area. Once I opened my bag of salt n vinegar, I pretty much didn't stop until it was gone. Just couldn't help myself! Stopped in for a popcorn fix on a recent trip to Traverse City. This place was awesome! The woman behind the counter was so nice and entertaining. Kept giving us samples of all the delicious popcorn. And when my daughter helped me spill popcorn we had just purchased all over the nice clean store ... The woman didn't hesitate to snatch the bag back from us and refill it on the house. We were lured into Popkies by the awesome popcorn smell wafting into the street and decided to give it a try... Well.. After waiting what seemed like forever to be waited on, we bought a bag of caramel corn from the wall display. This stuff tasted like it was made 6 months ago! Microwave popcorn is better... Also, the front door entrance area is filthy, old popcorn everywhere, napkins, etc. it was just a mess. Pretty sure that yummy popcorn smell is just popcorn scented hot air, because they definitely aren't making fresh popcorn in this place. read more
