We were loyal POOL Troopers customers for over five years -- year-round service -- and genuinely loved our experience for most of that time. Our previous technician was exceptional: professional, kind, and even brought treats and tennis balls for our dogs. We called the company more than once just to praise him. That's the kind of customer relationship that earns long-term loyalty. Unfortunately, the past few months marked a sharp decline. A recent fill-in technician was at our home for 21 minutes -- and our cameras showed she spent at least 5 of those sitting in her car. She left debris in the pool and a pool noodle blocking the drain. When we called to report it, we were told an area manager would follow up. He did call -- but the conversation felt combative from the start. He led with GPS data as though we were disputing the visit rather than the quality of it, made excuses for the drain issue, and left us feeling like we were the problem. That's not how you speak to a five-year customer raising a legitimate concern. This week our pool pump stopped working. We called POOL Troopers and were told there's a $150 diagnostic fee -- non-refundable, even if they perform the repair. My husband noted that had never been the policy in our experience and asked to speak with a supervisor. We were told the same area manager would call us back. We called another company instead. They offered a free estimate and came the same day. We're canceling our service. Not over one bad visit -- but because the response to that visit showed us that the company we trusted for five years no longer values the customers who stayed with them. They visited our pool and decided to do the equivalent of an acid wash w/o draining the pool. Truthfully, upper management is very professional & knowledgeable. This company totally relax and communication and customer service. I've been using the service for five years. I have to call to get my pool vacuumed even though they tell me it's in my list of things that get done every week. I have watched one guy that will pull the cover back and actually vacuum the pool like they're supposed to do And then after five years they call and tell me they won't vacuum if there's a cover on the pool. Then why are you charging me to vacuum my pool? You never show up at the same time sometimes on different days how am I supposed to know when to take that pool cover off Even when my pool cover isn't on they don't vacuum my pool the guy I've had over the past five years has been horrible. We called pool troopers for an estimate to clean the pool. Our filter pump suddenly stopped working. When the salesman arrived, he opened the metal box. Immediately I saw circuit breakers. I said, "OH wow! Circuit breakers. One of them might have tripped since we've had a lot of lightening storms. Let's reset them (turn them off then on). The salesman replied, "I already did that. It is either a relay or a loose wire. The only way to know is to get a mechanic out here."​ A few days later, the mechanic showed up, flipped the circuit breakers and the pump came on instantly! I Immediately said, "I'm furious! That is exactly what I said to the salesman and he said he had already tried it. I relied on his word. I want my money back!" The mechanic tried to appeas us by offering to setup the phone app, which we neither asked for, nor did he ever get it set up! We asked if he needed to be anywhere. He said were his only appointment for the day. We gave him $20 for his time even though he fixed nothing and never got the app running An hour after he left, we received an email stating they charged our credit card $158.69! I Immediately replied to the email stating the same thing. The manage called us. First, he apologized and said he would refund our money. I would never recommend this service to anyone. I was with them for over year and I rarely go the service I paid for. The tech's changed over all the time and lacked the training to do even the basics of the job. Many times I found the techs spending less than 10 minutes at my house and not completing all services I paid for (no brushing, vacuuming and sometimes no chemical testing). I had every visit on camera and every time I reported issues to the area manager she either came up with an excuse as to why something wasn't done or lied and said things were done. It was beyond me how you could continue to lie when I said I can see it wasn't done from my camera footage or with my own eyes standing there watching it. They are masters of ripping you off and lying to your face. Don't waste your money on this company and don't let your pool suffer because it won't get taken care of. They tried to up-charge me on everything. They tried to convince me there was a leak in my pool and I needed their scuba diver with a leak detector. Instead of testing or changing the chlorine generator they tried to sell me a whole new unit for $1700. I have no leak in my pool. I just let the rain fill it. All I need for my chlorinater was a new replacement salt separator unit which I purchased and installed myself. All they seem to do is brush the pool and test the water once a week. TERRIBLE COMPANY This company pool techs and supervisors do not know what they're doing and don't care. Very long response time! I had a brand new pool and spa built. I was using planet pool cleaners then they sold to Pool troopers. Starting mid May 2022 pool troopers took over cleaning. Each time tech went out he left my pool and spa turned off. I was out of town 3 weeks. I saw it was off on security cameras. I called their office 3 days in a row until I finally got a call back. Each week a pool tech visited they left my pool and spa so it wasn't running. The spa was only half filled with water. The second time it was all left of I emailed them, left more messages it took supervisor 2 more days to just return my call and to go to my house to turn it all back on. While he was there he texted me the spa check valve needed to be replaced. I told him that's probably not correct as it's brand new and he needs to call the pool builder so he can be told what to do with this computerized Pentair pool system. I texted him pool builder name and number. He never called my builder. Spa sat there only half full for more days. Now it has water line stain from being filled up all the way. My pool builder finally went out and said that the Pool troopers supervisor doesn't know what he is doing. He said Spa doesn't have a check valve. He said they unplugged the computer from pool pump. My advice is to go with another pool cleaning company who returns urgent calls promptly and actually cares. read more

Been a long time customer for over 8yrs before and after Covid while they still get paid I don't get a clean pool. I've let it go a few times called and complained hoping it would get better. Seems I'm not the only one... Been a Pool Troopers (formerly Bay Area Pools) customer for over 5 years at one property and they did such a good job use them at our primary home for almost 3 years. I was an advocate and referred at least 5 people to them over the years. This past summer has been horrible horrible horrible and I'm a extremely patient person and understand about short staff etc. But no callbacks from manager and taking 2-3 weeks for people to come by is not acceptable with a pool. We pay extra for a pool cleaning twice a month and half the time they don't do it but they charge me like clock work. Now we have had green pool approaching a month and my tenant couldn't use the pool for their sons birthday party which is no good. We confirmed i needed a new pool motor and I went ahead and bought a new pool pump and motor system the next day but heard it will take up to 1-2 weeks for someone to come by....finally someone comes and says they can't install today because of a valve that is needed which was an extra cost which was no big deal. They install the new pool pump/motor 4 days later ...pool still green and no chemicals or anything has taken place to fix the green pool. I contacted pool troopers multiple times about this and got the same excuse they are just behind...at this point it's costing me money the longer i have a green pool. I decided to wait a few days to hear from a manager...or course no call so whatever. Calling on the next business day to cancel services ASAP because I have pool companies willing this fix this issue . These same companies know about the issues happening with pool troopers and multiple forums are experiencing issues with them. Final straw as last week...contacted customer service (all nice but no solutions). Pool troopers stops by for biweekly servicing and cleaning the guy drops salt into the green pool and sends a e-mail that the job was done. Unfortunately we have cameras (always have)on the backyard of the pool and went through the history for the summer and they did half of what they were suppose to do....disappointing Ironically at my primary residence they did they notice a leak and a tech is suppose to come by..if they take more than a week we will cancel that account also. I am livid. We paid big money for a company to scam us, and when we fired them and told them of our dissatisfaction, someone named Marcus called us back with more excuses. We were told that the manager would call us back, so unless they switched managers, I see that Patrick is the business manager. What is going on with this company? I'm a disabled veteran and I need this pool to help rehab a couple of my conditions. So, for me, having a pool that works to use daily, and knowing when they are coming out so I won't swim in it on that day when chemicals are applied, is of the utmost importance. We moved into this house last May. Our realtor suggested we go with this company. So that's ten months of trusting that they were doing their job. But no. Instead I have reddened, extremely itchy skin. I know it's not from the sun, because we put a canopy over the pool so I wouldn't get sunburned. It's not from anything I'm doing, because I've always used mild soap, and I shower with soap and warm water for a long time the second I'm out of the pool. My husband contacts them and tells them what is going on with my skin. I also mention it to one of the workers who said they have never heard of that happening. They are supposed to be adding chemicals to the saltwater pool, testing the pH, and scrubbing the sides of the pool with a scrub brush. I know they were not here every time they claimed to be, for one thing. So my husband asked them and they were supposed to show up on Fridays. Many Fridays I was out there or in my house with curtains open and no one came. So he asked why and they said they changed the day. Fine. But now we have no proof they came and one time they left a note that said, "pool is covered so we couldn't service it." Ever heard of knocking? Or, removing the (small and easy) cover yourself? We were trying to keep the heat in. So there was a couple months in the winter we didn't use the pool. Same thing happens this year...terrible itch, skin that reeks of chlorine or some other chemical even after long soapy showers. Laying in bed itching myself to sleep and miserable. What is going on? On a hunch I bought some test strips. My husband used one and immediately noticed that it was not correct. If they were really out when they said they were, and doing what they said they would do, why is this happening? He agreed with me that yes, we do need to fire them. So he calls them and tells them yesterday, which was Thursday, but he will not be using them anymore and why. They promised to have the manager get back to us. Someone named Marcus called us back. Not helpful at all and didn't address the fact that they owe us for not only not doing their job right but for making my skin damaged and me miserable. I thought they were having a manager call us back? But now I read these other reviews here and see that that is not the manager? How do they even stay in business doing this? We have a tiny, shallow pool. We bought this house partially because of the pool and my health, and we are highly disappointed that they have made this a bad experience for us. I am not one to complain about businesses chronically, especially if they are doing most of all things right. But I don't have anything good to say about this company. They need to make this right. They can't go back in time and un-ruin my skin. Well they need to be honest about how many times they were out here, what they did to our pool and the fact that they did not keep it at the correct pH or chemical level. A refund is in order.
