My husband and I have enjoyed seeing her learn and grow, listening to her talk about vocational school, etc. We attended last years open house, this years in person back to school night and today's competition. We look forward to our child finishing her program here in June. We also look forward to hearing more wonderful stories from her after school for the remainder of this school year.

Pop Quiz: Where can I get a three course lunch prepared by aspiring Michelin star chefs for under…read more$10? Answer: Ocean County Vocational - Technical School in Brick. Perhaps this is common knowledge in the neighboring senior communities among the early bird special crowd, but it's a new discovery for me after having lived in Brick over twelve years. There's a culinary school at OCVTS in their Brick location. During the school year, they offer lunch from 11:30 to 2:30 I believe from Wednesday to Friday. So I stopped by yesterday to check it out. Apparently each day they have a theme. Yesterday it was Southern /Cajon. For my appetizer, I ordered the a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, which was redolent with the flavor of the dark tan roux and was well seasoned, and to my surprise, mildly (for me) spiced even before I added the Tabasco sauce. It was a well made gumbo. I initially ordered the fried chicken entre, which came with collard greens and mac and cheese. I love collard greens and these were well prepared, as was the mac and cheese (To be honest, mac and cheese is a dish that you have to go out of your way to screw up.). However, the fried chicken was not as deftly prepared. Granted, it was three huge pieces of chicken, the size of my head (I can see why this place is popular with the senior crowd). First, it was was smothered in gravy. Now, that's not really a critism in itself, but I don't like anything on the chicken after it's fried so it stays crispy. But as soon as I put the fork into the thigh piece the entire breading seemed to slide off. Apparently they have to revisit frying 101, as do ssooo many commercial cooks. Realizing that this is a school, I felt bad sending it back, but I really wanted to enjoy the meal. So ignoring the Italian tradition of not eating fish with cheese, I ordered the blackened catfish with a Parmesan breading crust. The fish was well cooked, but the crust was overly salty. The meal was rounded out with chocolate rice pudding (now that's thinking out of the box!) that was very good. All through the meal I had unlimited refills of their excellent home brewed ice tea and some good coffee at the end Total tab $ 7.00, not including tip. How can you beat that? There were a few hiccups as I've pointed out. I wasn't pulling my punches because it's a school. But, for around the price of a happy meal you get great quality freshly prepared food served with cloth napkins. Next time I'm doing errands in Brick and want a bite for lunch, it's not gonna be pizza.

I had a very disappointing experience at Innovative Hair Academy in Brick, NJ…read more I scheduled a simple root touch-up to cover my grays. My appointment was at 10:00 AM. I understand this is a student salon and services may take longer, but I was never told when booking that a basic root touch-up could take 2-3 hours. I sat in the chair at 10:00 AM, but the student didn't return with the color until 10:41. The student herself was very sweet, but she was applying the color extremely slowly and very sparingly, which is not proper application for covering gray roots. Since I had to take my daughter to a doctor's appointment at noon, it was clear I would still be there for hours. I politely asked a teacher if she could briefly guide or assist the student so the application could be finished more efficiently. Instead, she responded rudely and said, "You should know it takes 2-3 hours here because they are students." I then asked if I could simply rinse my hair and leave since only a small amount of color had been placed near the front of my bangs. I even offered to tip both the student and the girl washing hair for their time. Instead of helping resolve the situation, the teacher ignored me and went over to the student, who ended up crying. Another teacher then approached me in a very aggressive manner and demanded that I still pay for the service, even though the color was only applied 2 centimeters on front of band when I needed entire head the service was never completed. The issue isn't the $22 price -- it's the fact that I was being told to pay for a service that was not performed while staff refused to even rinse the color from my hair. I have worked in the beauty industry myself as an esthetician in high-end spas, and the lack of professionalism and customer service from the instructors was shocking. Students should be supported and guided, not made to cry in front of clients. Before leaving, I hugged the student, tipped her $10, and reassured her she was doing a good job. Thankfully another student at the wash station was kind enough to rinse my hair, and I tipped her $5. The students seemed kind and eager to learn, but the instructors were rude, dismissive, and completely unprofessional. I would not recommend this school.

It's Hygenic, sanitary and professional standards for someone touching your face. It seems the school does not teach or enforce that as all the aestheticians I noticed had long polished nails. I was very surprised.

It was a great way for me to step back and spend quality time with my baby for an hour a week with no distractions. She liked the song time and playing with all the beautiful toys. I liked getting to know other new parents. But I didn't realize I would learn so much too! I learned how to set up my playroom with toys that would encourage her optimal development. I learned about her different "sensitive periods for development" where she would be especially sensitive to learning different things. As she got older, I learned about how to practice positive discipline. It was all so fascinating and made me feel that whenever I had questions about parenting, I had a place to turn to for answers! Now she's in the toddler classes, and I've never seen a space full of 10 toddlers that is so calm and peaceful, yet so fun! I highly highly recommend these classes for all parents!

Sport specific training and general fitness are only a few of the focuses at this establishment. If there is any team whether its basketball or baseball, football or swimming, lacrosse or tennis, soccer or MMA fighting, this is the place to be in the off season or even during. The pricing is fair and they do not discriminate against anyone. They train individuals ranging from 8 years old to over 30 years old. Each session is an hour long and will cover damn near every muscle in your body! There are different time slots throughout the day for different groups. For example, "fit kids" is from 5-6pm, then there is "small group" training from 6-7 and after that, on occasion, at least 2 or 3 times a week there would be a team of some sort for an hour to train and then a few times a week you have the adult group. Also at the end of each session, the hard working athletes or non-athlete individuals that attend a session get rewarded with some sort of game. Sure, sounds cheesy to some but when your out there breaking a sweat, a little fun wont hurt. and believe it or not, you end up sweating even more.. your working out and not even realizing it. Another great thing about All Star is that it allows any new potential member to try out what they have to offer for a week with no charge. ** Note: this is not your typical, "gym."** there is a large turf area where majority of the exercises take place. a selection of dumb bells, kettle bells, swiss (stability) balls, medicine balls, dead balls, squat racks, free benches, hurdles, plyo-metric boxes ranging from 12 inches to 36 inches, vertimax and much much more. I recommend checking it out for yourself, screw the words written here, go out there, sign up for a weeks worth of absolute free sessions and you will be hooked! Fitness builds not only the body but the mind and soul! PS: Beach Season is right around the corner! time to fit into those bikinis ladies or have the ladies turn their heads at you gentlemen when you walk by!
