We have been taking our Cairn Terrier here for approximately 2 years. I appreciate that the dogs usually only need to stay for 60-90minutes on average. This isn't like a Petsmart where you drop your dog off and they sit in a crate for an excessive amount of time before grooming. My dog is also never wary of the grooming staff who take her back which is really positive. They have a window from the waiting room looking into the grooming room. I feel like this really inspires confidence in those dropping off their dogs because we can see how kindly the doggies are treated. Also rather than waiting in cages in the back, like a big box groomer. Their after-grooming kennels are up front and are more like fences so the dogs can see what's going on up front and have a human with them. read more

We have been using Poochini's for a number of years. However, I found it necessary to cancel all of our future appointments. Here is why: The last two times I was expecting to get a call, as usual, that my dog's grooming was complete, I did not receive a call long after I expected to receive that call. On both occasions I decided, since I was in the area, to drop by and wait. On both occasions my dog was already done and was being warehoused in a cage. No telling how long. Either the organizational capabilities are no longer there or they just didn't care to place a phone call to let me know my dog was done. The last time I picked up my dog, she was dirty. I have never before picked her up where it seemed like she didn't get a bath, but was only made wet. Another reason I no longer want to use this company, is because they are very expensive and although they do a pretty good job cutting the dog, this client wants to feel appreciated; like something other than a number. Mr. Personality at the front desk does absolutely NOTHING to make me feel like I'm either valued as a client or wanted. Okay, I can take a hint, if you don't want my money I will be happy to give it to someone else for my grooming needs. read more

I took my dog for his second grooming at Poochini's today. Unfortunately, I hurt my back just as we were leaving for the groomer. I went ahead and drove over, not wanting Harry to miss his appointment. By the time I arrived, I was in tremendous pain. A Poochini's employee came out and got Harry for me. I was also able to call a friend who was nearby -- she helped me out of the car and helped me walk around a bit to try and relieve the back muscle seizures. An employee came out again to check on me. I guess what I'm trying to say is this....I felt cared for by the employees of Poochini's. They not only groomed my dog beautifully, but they also cared enough to see if I was okay. You don't see this kindness much anymore. I thank your business for taking care of not only my beloved dog Harry, but also taking care of me. read more

Beware!!!! Extremely disappointed how the owner Kathryn has decided to treat her long term customers so disrespectfully and allow her groomers to make decisions on what your pet needs. Our gorgeous golden doodle was completely shaved without our approval and was washed with an oatmeal shampoo (that he is highly allergic too) as well! His sanitary trim was cut so closely (the area blistered and we had to spend $200+ at the vet (and had to have our doodle do sit spats in the tub for a week)! We've been clients of Poochinis for over a year and have referred countless others. We trusted our wishes would be adhered to and now feel betrayed. When we discussed this situation with Kathryn, she argued with us for over 30 minutes (talking over us/defending the groomers actions/no apology/no refund or discount/no resolution) and actually blamed us! Also Kathryn apparently video records all happenings inside the salon (customers should be made of aware of this). I wish we were aware of Kathryn's business practices, this is why I decided to write this review, to warn others. I have taken my pets Kika and Euro (shiatzus) to so many places before I found Poochini's. First time I took them I felt that it was over priced, then when I saw their haircuts I was so pleased that I changed my mind. What I like the most about Poochini's is that I don't now how they do it but my pets don't get nervous when they get there but otherwise, they get exited and when I go to pick them up, they don't want to leave. I have been going to Poochini's with my two Coton de Tulear's for about three years. They do a great job and there's not a wait once they are done which is usually within an hour or so . They call and I pick them up. There is no stress and they know our dogs and their needs. Not being in a cage helps because the girls get very stressed very easily!! We took our Australian Shepherd to be groomed, having taken our previous Aussie there several years ago. When I went to collect him I immediately knew something was wrong, he was cowering in his crate and didn't greet me with his usual enthusiasm. The cut looked good but when he got home he wouldn't stop licking one of his back legs. When we looked the skin was red raw and the fur had been removed in a 3-4" strip. I called the owner the next day and she told me the groomer had "over brushed" him. He had to wear a cone for five days to prevent him licking the area and now it has large scabs on it. I certainly won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was going to bring my dog here but I realized the night before that I misplaced his shot records so assumed I wouldn't be able to bring him in (understandable). I left a message just in case as he is registered so he obviously has his rabies shots. They called me back in the morning and said that I wouldn't be able to bring him in (which I completely understand) not only due to their policy BUT because of the "nature of his breed". First off, he's a mixed breed but looks like he is part chow which is what they were referring to. Second, my Yorkie is more aggressive than him so I'm not sure why any "dog lover" would have the nerve to say that/judge any breed of dog. The past two times my dog has been groomed here he has developed an ear infection within 12 hours. The vet who treated him indicated it was the result of the dog grooming because water was left in his ear canal. He has not endured any ear infections in the past when he was groomed by our previous groomer. I called the owner today to inform him of this situation. I explained that my dog was in acute pain and that I had paid veterinary bills if $150.00 and $185.00. He had nothing to say. No apology, no concern for my dog. I requested that he groom my dog in the future as a credit for the vet bills I had paid as a result of the grooming. He refused. Please realize that this grooming salon may not take appropriate precautions to ensure safety of your pet. In addition, they do not stand by their services with reasonable accommodations. read more

A friend recommended that we find a new groomer for our mixed breed dog, because his shedding was really out of control. The majority of the Yelp reviews of this place - which is very near home! - convinced me that they were the right team for our four legged son. Well, they exceeded my expectations with first- rate service, clear advice and explanations, reasonable fees and a welcoming atmosphere. Banjo had a great time and they fell a little in love with him, which is always a good sign. If you sign up for regular groomings they have a good cost-saving plan that includes updated nail trimming between regular visits. This is the fourth or fifth groomer in Tucson that I've taken my dog. They are by far the best. They knew how to groom her, she's part sheltie. they were understanding and accomodating of her arthritis. they do not make you leave your pet for hours and instead see her right away and call you when she's ready. they are worth the half hour drive from my house! read more

So happy we chose to try out Poochini's for our puppies first grooming. We took our babies to Petsmart for what we thought was a puppy grooming but all they did was bath them and cut their face hair crooked! The groomers at Poochinis were very professional. They did a great job of trimming them up and making their first real grooming a great success! Reason number 1001 why I take my pups to Poochini's: My little boy wasn't feeling well today. Instead of forcing him to endure a haircut and blow dry, Kathryn felt it was best to keep him calm and gave him a warm bath, snuggles, and love instead. She even found a way to schedule him for a haircut for when he's feeling better. Wouldn't you take your puppies to someone who cares about them as much as you do? I took my German Shepherd to Poochini's, believing that it would groom her appropriately. I put her muzzle on and explained on my arrival that, since she doesn't know anyone at the shop, her muzzle should not be removed. Once she knows those that will be grooming her, she will not need the muzzle. But, since this is her first time, it needs to stay on. A young female who appeared to be either the owner or manager was standing there and agreed, stating that she has two shepherds of her own and understood what I was saying. About 10 minutes after the male groomer took her to the back, he came out, stood with the manager/owner and said "this isn't going to work." I asked what he meant and he said she started to nip at him when he placed her in the tub. I asked how can that be, she has a muzzle. He said he took it off because "she seemed to warm up to me." I was shocked that this idiot violated my strict instruction. I said, fine, I can put her muzzle back on. At that point the manager/owner repeated what he said - "this isn't going to work." I went to the back, got my dog and left. I will never return to a grooming business that doesn't have enough sense to follow instructions for a new large dog that needs to get to know those who handle her. Beware of this place. I was such a nervous Mom about having my Beagle Shi Tzu mix Agatha go to another groomer. I went to what was supposed to be one of the best groomers in the Tucson area, even drove quite a distance to have her groomed there. She hated it. It took most of the day before I could come back and pick her up. Poor little thing looked so pathetic in this CAGE. Hardly ever got the same groomer. No personal touch at all. I decided to groom her myself and have for the last three years.....not an easy task, even though I tried to study proper grooming on the net as much as possible. I still had to take her to the vet for her nails and a butt check, so what I saved grooming her myself, I spent at the vets. NOW.......comes Poochini's........what a difference, they are all I have dreamed of having as groomers for my little furry friend. Katheryn really knows what she is doing and asked a lot of questions, even followed some earlier photos I brought of Agatha to groom her the way I wanted. She gave her suggestions which were outstanding too. No matter how well I brushed her and kept her groomed every 4 or 5 weeks she shed everywhere. Now finally she has been properly groomed and not a hair in site where it doesn't belong. I am so relieved. I thought Agatha would be nervous and dislike the process as she wasn't crazy about being bathed or groomed when I did it, but Jim was so gentle and loving that she didn't mind at all. They are a fantastic team and run an outstanding establishment. I felt like I was in someones calm and beautiful home while sitting in the lounge area. They treat the owner's of the pets as good as the pets. Agatha loved finding a treat and just curled up on the rug in lounge just like home. She was totally happy. PS.......this did not cost any more than I was paying at the former groomers four years ago! All I ask is that you just stop by like I did and you will know immediately that if you really care about your furry little creature, this is the ONLY place to take them. read more

I have a long hair kitty named Handsome. This is my first long haired tabby, and I was surprised at the amount of hair he would leave behind. So, I called Poochini's Pet Grooming, and made an appointment. I had never done this before, so I had no idea what to expect. The gentleman on the phone was nice. And, when I showed up for Handsome's appointment, I was surprised to have a pleasant conversation with him. Then I met Handsome's groomer, Andria, who asked me numerous questions about Handsome. Then, she took him into the back. Fifty minutes later, I picked Handsome up and he looked like a new kitty! Our second visit to Poochinis was just as pleasant. If you have a kitty, and you need to get him groomed, you need to make an appointment with Andria. She was professional, friendly, and she does fantastic work! I highly recommend her! The staff here is great and they were very sweet to my dog. When I told them my dog was a pit bull there was no problem and they took good care of her. I got the bath and de-shed package and added teeth cleaning and nail clipping to my appointment when I called and made the appointment. Before she went back the groomer that came out asked me what we were doing today and I told her but thought it was kind of weird that information was not communicated to her from the front of the house. They said it could take an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes. I was waiting in the lobby when she came out about 40ish minutes after she went in. I thought this was great because the less time she spends in there the more business they can do and the less time my animal might spend in what might be a slightly stressful situation for her. I had already paid but noticed that her teeth had not been brushed and she still had big patches of hair on her shoulders that were ready to come out. She took her back to the back to brush her teeth and came back about two minutes later. Once I got her back to my mother's house where she lives. The first thing my mom said was "She smells great but why did you just do the wash and not the de-shed?" She broke out a brush and was able to get out a large amount of hair in just a minute or two. The groomer gave me the toothbrush she used to take home with me. I used the brush on her for a few more minutes and her teeth were so much cleaner than when she left. I don't know if this lack of quality was from them being over scheduled and trying to rush through jobs or a lack of experience by the particular groomer that was assigned to my dog. All that being said this place seems like a great place for breeds like Maltese, Bichon and Poodles etc but (from my experience) is not a good fit for short haired animals. read more

I've been going to Poochinis since 2016. Most times, the clips have been good. Their customer service aspect needs improvement. This last time, I got there a little late to pick up my girls. I still made it in time before they closed. Jim made the comment to me saying that if I was any later they would have been locked in for the weekend. No.1: That would have never happened as I would have gotten the authorities involved. No.2: You don't talk that way to your paying customers. They are not cheap whatsoever. I've been paying $146 ( includes a tip for each groomer) every 8 weeks for many years. His comment made me so mad, that I called them and cancelled the next appointment I had. I am taking my business elsewhere where they value my business and are much less in cost. Suggestion for Poochinis: Value your customers, Treat your customers with respect, have good customer service. People have many other places to choose from to take their business to. My denial is over. I'd completely given up on getting my dog groomed appropriately. So much so that I'd simply not scheduled a grooming for six months, thinking that my dog still looked okay, just needed a little brushing. Hmm...but when the new sign appeared by Sprouts "Poochini's -- the Ultimate in Pet Grooming," I had to go in and check it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the calm and soothing decor on a human scale and warmly greeted by the groomer, Katheryn. We quickly got talking shop and she immediately asked if I wanted my dog "hand-stripped" since he's a Cairn terrier with an undercoat. My eyes went buggy. "I've been looking for someone to do that and I'd given up." "It's becoming a lost art," she replied. The next day I brought little Stanley in and he looks gorgeous. His beautiful overcoat, for the first time, was kept in tact and it's amazing how hand-stripping makes him appear better without any signs of a cut or a snip anywhere. And he had a pile as big as a Thanksgiving Turkey of undercoat hair on the table. It was a good thing afterall I waited for him to get another grooming as the guardhairs had time to grow back so the hand-stripping could be done effectively. Stanley was so happy and didn't seem stressed at all; and that's saying a lot for a feisty terrier. This is the best grooming my dog has ever had and it's so close by. The place is clean, small, the groomer personable and, most importantly, fantastic at her job. read more

I used to take my pomeranian toPetSmart to be bathed and trimmed. We decided we wanted out pom groomed into a lion haircut, so I wanted to find a place more professional (with hopefully consistently good grooming results-unlike PetSmart). We decided to try Poochinis after reading their website. The groomer asked questions and informed me of different options, and my Pom turned out absolutely adorable! She was perfectly cut, smelled good, and was soft and clean. She was also very happy. This is a great place with a nice environment. i will definitely bring her back here for future cuts! read more

We have 2 Toy Poodles (one is a "senior) and they need kit glove handling. Poochini's takes great care of both. Katheryn takes loving and sensitive care of our older girl while Amanda tackles our 9 year old "skittish" boy who has high anxiety. But in a very calm manner, she takes him into her arms and the two have become quite good friends :) Like the others have said, the place is clean and caring and only takes appointments so that there aren't more than one or two other dogs in the facility so our babies come out not only looking good but not stressed. If you have a cat DO NOT take him/her to this place. They make it sound like cats get "special treatment", "special appointments" -- well, what they get is an appointment after hours after the certified groomer has gone home and everyone else is tired and in a hurry to get done Their "special" dryer is really a shopvac. I specifically requested that my cat NOT be shaved, and they did anyway. He was so stressed out that it led to his passing. They knew he was a senior cat and handled him roughly anyway. I know because I came in and saw what was happening. This is a true story. I don't want what happened to us to happen to anyone else. read more

I've been having my dogs groomed regularly every six to eight weeks, one for 10 years now. I have a 13 yr old Westie and a 4 yr old poodle/terrier mix. I had been searching for a new groomer after my groomer of 6 yrs moved out of state and I had been taking them to a groomer in Oro Valley that I just wasn't happy with. You dropped your dogs off between 7 and 9 and they would be there forever! It was so loud in there and the people were not very personable to me so it made me wonder how they were with my dogs. After a few months of going there, my always friendly, never scared westie, Lily would begin to shake the moment we walked in to that place. That was the end of that and I began looking for another groomer. I live down the street from Poochini's so I went on line and looked at their website and called to ask some questions. They are a bit more expensive then any other groomer I have used, however, the experience for both my dogs and I is worth every last penny! For the first time ever my dogs are actually excited when we go to the groomer! They run in and say hi to Jim and his wife are AMAZING!!! There are no cages that your dogs need to sit in, there's only one groomer and she does a fantastic job, and I can be a bit picky when it comes to my pups :) It is ALWAYS quite in there...always a super relaxed atmosphere...I just couldn't be happier. They are just amazing with my Lily, now that she's starting to get up there in years. They have two puppy play pens with toys that they have your dogs in once they are done and waiting for you to pick them up and every time I walk in there my babies are just laying down all relaxed and enjoying themselves. I have never been happier with any groomer that I have ever used over the past 10 years than I am now. They also run a discount program if you book your next appointment in advance. They are honest, the place is spotless, and they are wonderful people and truly love the animals. read more
