Who would have thought some of the best poutine I've had outside of Canada would be in Pagosa…read moreSprings?! We stopped here while driving through to Durango, drawn in by poutine on the menu. We were seated right away - and they were slammed! Despite this, we had a very attentive server. I ordered the poutine as my meal, and it was seriously some of the best. It was absolutely loaded with cheese curds and gravy - they didn't skimp on anything! I swear there were multiple layers of curds on top of each layer of fries. The gravy was perfect, too - not too salty and so full of flavor. My wife got the catfish basket and was happy with her choice as well - though she may have been a bit jealous of my poutine! No idea if or when I'll ever be back in Pagosa Springs, but I will definitely stop here again if I am.

The restaurant was clearly popular, with a packed parking lot and a steady line of guests waiting for tables. While the outdoor seating wait was about 30 minutes, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated indoors right away. The atmosphere is lively and energetic, though it can get quite loud during busy times. I ordered the Rio Brisket Tacos and appreciated the happy hour discount, which made them an even better value. The Chokecherry Habanero Margarita was a standout, offering just the right balance of flavor and heat. My son tried the Homesick Texas Steak Sandwich along with a homemade root beer and thought they were decent. Service was a bit inconsistent during our visit, but the staff seemed to be managing a very busy crowd. The restaurant's popularity was evident when we overheard that the wait time had grown to an hour and a half by the time we left. Overall, while the experience didn't completely meet our expectations, it's easy to see why this spot draws such a crowd. The unique drink offerings, happy hour specials, eating by the river and strong local following may make it worth a visit for travelers passing through the area.

Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience at High Alpine Brewing…read more We chose this brewery because we thought it was pet friendly, especially since they have a large outdoor upstairs patio. When we arrived, we were initially told dogs weren't allowed. I explained that our dog is extremely well-behaved and simply lays quietly under the table. The hostess said that was fine and seated us at a table right next to the outdoor area. After we sat down, three different employees approached us asking whether our dog was a service animal, even though another staff member had already approved her being there. By that point, we felt singled out and uncomfortable. The final employee was particularly rude and suggested we could tie "it" to a tree if we wanted to eat there. Referring to our dog as "it" and suggesting we leave her tied outside was shocking and unnecessary. Rather than continue feeling unwelcome, we decided to order a pizza to go. We had planned to stay for drinks, appetizers, and dinner, but instead we ate in our car. The prosciutto pizza was decent, but it was much saltier than we expected. At that point, we were just hungry and wanted to leave. What was most disappointing wasn't the dog policy itself--businesses are absolutely entitled to set their own policies. It was the inconsistent communication and the way we were treated after being told it was okay to stay. Instead, the experience left us feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Unfortunately, we won't be returning.
