We got a couple of Eastern European beers (a lager and a porter and they were both good). I would recommend getting the lager if you want something light and refreshing and the porter if you're leaning towards the dark side. The Adjaruli is a must-have!!! It's served table-side and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot melty cheese. We got the beef stroganoff and the lamb stew (chakapuli) for our mains and both were also bomb. We were so stuffed, we didnt have any more room for dessert. All our food were top notch and we would definitely come back here. Our server Anne was a delight!

We had reservations for a party of 11 this past Saturday (8/15/26). Because of the size of our party, the restaurant had us call our chosen entrees ahead. I shared the following: bread with cheese salty; bread with egg mixed with feta and mozzarella; salad sampler and stuffed cabbage. The serving sizes were generous. My favorites were both the stuffed cabbage and salad sampler. Each was delicious ! These I would definitely order again. The bread with cheese was too salty for me. I found the bread with egg somewhat salty with an interesting texture. Glad I tried them , but not a fan to reorder the next visit... We sat inside. It was very noisy and it was difficult to hear each other speaking . The decor was dated and I just saw a lot of the color pink. We visited during a heatwave and the dining room was unbearably hot. Even at 6:00 PM, it felt like eating in a steam bath because there was no air conditioning. While they had the windows open and a few small ceiling fans running, they did nothing to cool down the space. It was simply too uncomfortable to enjoy the meal.l

People always rave about this place, but I didn't love my experience here. The chairs are very uncomfortable and the restaurant itself was insanely loud where we had to shout at each other to hear. The server had to crouch down so we could hear her. It was a disaster and I ended up with a headache by the end of it. Tried lots: - Pear Soda (Russia) - soo good! This was very refreshing and not overly sweet - I loved the idea of the Salad Sampler Platter as a way to try multiple things in small batches. I wish more places did something like that. The Olivier and Kavkaz Beet Salad were the agreed upon favorites of the table - The Khinkali were much bigger than we expected them to be. Sadly, they were very disappointing: the dough was too thick, there wasn't a lot of meat filling, and, other than being doused in pepper, it was bland - It was my first time having Russian Borscht and I wasn't a big fan of it. Polish borscht is much tastier in my opinion. The bread was a hit - Chakapuli - best dish for sure! It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and paired perfectly with their rice - Shashlik - this was cooked very nicely, but was way too peppery. The rice was overcooked I'd give this place a 3 overall, but minus a point since I left with a headache.

This was my second time visiting Pomegranate, and I was happy to find that everything tasted just as good as I remembered from my first visit two years ago. Consistency is something I really value, and they definitely delivered. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, and our waiter was incredibly kind. He took the time to explain how to eat khinkali; which made the experience even more fun. If you've never tried them before, it's a great place to do so. Everything we ordered was delicious, but there are a couple of things worth noting. The menu describes the golubtsi as being served with a tomato cream sauce. I didn't mind it, but if you're not a fan of carrots, it's something to be aware if. Also, the khinkali has a bit if cilantro mixed into the meat filling. I enjoyed the flavor, but one of my friends wasn't expecting it, so I thought it would be helpful to mention. I'd recommend coming with a group of 4 or 5 friends so you can order a variety of dishes and share everything. It's the best way to experience the menu. Just keep in mind that reservations are only available for parities of more than five people. Overall, a great spot for a cozy meal with friends, I'll definitely be back.

I have been wanting to check this spot out for years. We walked in early on a Friday. It was my husband, toddler, and dog. We sat on the front patio, the inside was already packed. Our waiter gave us recommendations. We ended up getting some dumplings and one of the breads with cheese and egg. It was so delicious. We honestly should have stopped there, but we wanted to try the lamb shank. It was also so good. The portions are very generous. The service was fast. It was fun to try a new type of food too!

We came for a birthday dinner and had a nice time. The team really gets into the birthday song. Location is on a busy street with no dedicated parking lot, street parking only. We found a spot pretty easily one block away. The food was enjoyable, we tried multiple different dishes and desserts. Photos attached with names of dishes. Food prices were $15-27/dish and cocktails were average price. Atmosphere was relaxed and clean. Service was friendly. Overall, good experience.

Apart from difficult parking it was a delightful experience. Try the borsh soup, comes with sour cream cream. The Beef Strongaff was pure perfection. Friendly staff.

Great food and service! I don't know too much about Russian food, but our waiter Eddie was great at explaining the entrées. My favorites were our appetizers: Khinkali - Beef and Pork Dumplings and Adjaruli Khachapuri - Egg and Cheese Bread Bowl. The Honey Cake with Dark Cherry Ice Cream is delicious too. I would definitely come again. The Moscow Mule was very good. Parking is a challenge on a Monday evening and one in our party gave up and drove home. Also we were celebrating a birthday and $25 cake cutting fee was a bit much so we just ordered one slice of cake for 6 of us. The ice cream was the birthday treat. I would return for the appetizers and try other entrees. Chakhokhbili - Lamb Shank Stew was tender and tasty too but too heavy of an entree after having the appetizers. I look forward to having it later this week.

Still thinking about the Adjaruli and I ate here a week ago. Didn't really know what to expect walking into this place since I can't say I've ever really had Russian food but I'm coming back!! I don't know when, but that can't be the last time I have the adjaruli. Beef stroganoff, salad platter, and lamb stew were good too. A+ all around

We ordered appetizers just to sample as much as we could. Delicious. Nothing left. The waiter covered quite a few tables so we waited longer than expected, but he did a great job. The ambience changed since the last time many months ago, as they painted all the walls that used to be covered with patrons' thoughts.

Lamb shank and the bread bowl

I highly recommend this restaurant!! This is the perfect place to not only try something new but get delicious authentic Russian-Georgian takes on classics we all know and love like the pierogis which were fantastic potato onion-y bombs that had a smooth texture and felt like a hug in my tummy. The caramelized onion on top looked like bacon, it was sexy. Don't even get me started on the bread bowl. This is MUST order item. They bake them in batches because of how popular they are. They bring out a piping hot bread bowl filled with the oooey-gooey cheese of your dreams and an egg yolk in the center. For an elevated factor, they preform some carbonara magic and mix in the egg table side, which I loved. It was fun watching the cheese change in color and texture, and the egg yolk adds a yummy rich unctuousness that keeps bringing you back in for more!! It was our favorite dish far! We ended our meal with the lamb shank which was cooked to perfection. Like the bone is literally for decoration. The meat dropped from the bones like panties booooy my jaw dropped. The sauce was extremely interesting and pretty acidic maybe from the plum and white wine (not sure if that even makes sense like are plums acidic tbh?) but it pairs beautifully with the flavorful rice it's served with. My only complaint is that they didn't give enough rice, it needs significantly more, so maybe order an extra side of two?? I highly recommend trying the meat and rice separately and then trying them together. It took me on a fun flavor journey I've never been on before. The restaurant itself is super cute homey/rustic aesthetic, I loved the eclectic lamp and art collection that had everything was unique and fun! The service was amazing, every single person we interacted with was nice. I think they only hire beautiful people or something. We went around 7pm on Friday night and only had a 10 minute wait which was a pleasant surprise! I also like that you can dress up or down. Although most people were dressed up when we there, I didn't feel out of place even though I was in jeans and a tank top lol

Stuffed cabbage (golubtsi)
Katy K.

An absolute gem my husband and I have loved for years. Right across from the Lafayette, Pomegranate is a cozy Russian restaurant that consistently has a line out the door. The pomegranate martini is a classic, and we always have to order the famous cheese bread. The stuffed cabbage is the entree I keep coming back for, as well as the hospitality. One of my favorite restaurants in North Park, the friends we introduce to this spot also end up loving it as much as we do.

Sunny C.

All the food here were really good. The place was packed with reservations and they still managed to get us in with a bit of a wait. Service was also really good, the servers really know their menu. Our tour guide ordered all the right things. The beers might seem a bit pricey but that's because it's the tall bottles, pretty much more than 2 mugs worth. A good selection of beer and Georgian wine. There's are lots of indoor seats plus some outdoor. Doing family style would be the way to go here

Do they really only serve that cheese bread dish thing only Sunday-Thursday?

We were there on a Friday and we ordered it.

Does this place have piroshki?

Nope.

Is a reservation necessary for a Thursday evening?

And then told them to wait on my main course even though I was famished and wanted the food to come out while not caring about the order. The food itself is quite good. It is definitely on the salty side, but I actually enjoy that, so it works for me. The chef/owner is very friendly and welcoming with guests. However, I was uncomfortable with the way I saw him speak to some of the staff, which came across as demeaning and disrespectful and outright insolent. The front deli case has all the smoked fish you want and also plenty of different kinds of sausages too. And since its the holidays, there are also plenty of fun chocolates and gift items! I chose to buy some rusk bread crisps (salmon and cheese flavored) and Russian style egg salad. Both were good! I didnt know what to expect with Russian style egg salad as it has cheese and fresh garlic in it, so I was a little worried if I didnt like it, but good thing is that I definitely liked it and can definitely pair them with some Carr crackers as a snack! Almost everyone in here was speaking Russian and I definitely felt like a weirdo in there but everyone was nice to me and welcoming. My only gripe is that the rusk crisp was labeled as $1.99 and I was charged $2.50. Id come back here again and try other things too next time.

I walked in to see a lot of the quirky decorations. I was the only customer at the time. I was greeted by someone behind the desk who asked if he could help me. We had a brief exchange. Truthfully, it could have been a friendlier exchange. I presume this was the owner. I think for a small independent and very original looking restaurant, it would have been nice to have been greeted with some enthusiasm and perhaps given some background about the restaurant and food. Anyway, I love pierogi, and being from Chicago, I have had some pretty good ones in my day. That said, potato and cheese was the obvious choice for me. He told me to wait 10 minutes and he would have them out for me. I was curious about the rest of the decoration in the restaurant, but I had my dog with me so we waited outside for the food to be ready. I sat in some of the patio furniture, and the same man came back in less than 10 minutes with my order. At first, I looked at the serving size and thought that the $15.99 price was a bit much, but I then realized the serving was much bigger than it originally looked. It was plenty for dinner for just myself. It came with a few toppings including bacon and onions, sour cream and chives, and sauerkraut. The pierogi were really delicious. I do think that the customer service could be better, as had a been a vegetarian (ordering potato cheese pierogi) it would have been nice of them to ask it I wanted bacon. Anyway, I think if I am craving pierogi, especially when friends from my hometown visit, I would return.
